Q) In a case-control study. 100 men who have bladder cancer were compared with 100 controls Cases and controls were asked about their alcohol consumption The investigators calculated an odds ratio of 3.0, the 95% confidence interval was 1.8 to 6.6 for the association of bladder cancer and alcohol consumption. Which of the following is the most appropriate interpretation of this result? A) Atleast 5ol the bladder cancers can be attributed te consumption of alcohol B) Aleast-5% of consumers of alcohol will develop cancer of the bladder C) The likelihood is 95% that the true value for the odds ratio is between 1.8 and 6.6 D)There is atleast a 5% increased risk for bladder cancer among consumers of alcohol E ) Men who-drink alcohol are 5 times more likely to develop bladder cancer than those do not drink alcohol F) There is a 95% chance that the true odds ratio is 3.0 Q.)A research group conducted a placebo-controlled clinical trial to assess whether a new drug to treat acute migraine with or without aura in adults is more effective than standard therapy A total of 3,500 patients with acute migraine were enrolled in the study and randomly assigned to either the new drug or standard treatment During the data analysis phase, the researchers decide to set alpha at 0.01 rather than 0.05. It says reduce the reduction by at least 40% not by less then 40%. As long as you are at 40% or less it will be accepted. Seems like 3.2% is the right answer since that is 40% of .o8
yes.... please help us...confidence interval and hypothesis , p value= ? meaning...vs alpha=? or p value = alpha...please help us understand the p value so that we can pick the correct answer choice.....

Zlatan, You mean Null Hypothesis? The very first video... should have the NULL and the mot common problem you will encounter. Take a look and if it's something else you had in mind, just let me know...

I have a question regarding the incidence rate question in the Second question, Why Secondary prevention isn't right too? if we decreased the screening for a disease we will decrease the incident i.e. no new cases are reported :)
When I read the problem, I feel that they tell us its a "chronic disease" for a purpose and therefore the Secondary screening wouldn't necessarily prevent new cases (as it would be too late)...It would potentially decrease mortality or prevent it turning into "full fledged" disease state, but I suspect the term Chronic implies it could be in early stages. That's why Primary would be the best choice. I hope this makes sense...

I had the same thinking but notice it says, reduction by 40% = reduction to 60% = it means you subtract the 40% of the total from the total
