As a religious person who believes in reincarnation, I believe that Wotan/Wodan/Odin is reincarnated once a generation to a royal line of kings. Whether of not that person who is possessed by Odin does anything with the gift is up to them, but each source depicts a time when a king took up that gift and made Odin real in their time.

I generally agree that myths should be read symbolically. However, the fact that Thor is used to symbolically represent a force of nature in mythology does not necessarily imply that he is nothing more than a personification of a force of nature.
Apotheosis is a concept present in many ancient pagan religions such as Greek and Egyptian polytheism, suggesting that ancient people may have believed that it was possible for mortals to become gods. Under that framework, you could imagine a real living human ruling over his kingdom for some time before being deified.

This way of thinking doesn't work with ANY polytheistic system.
Most of the Gods aren't represented as being a force in nature.
For instance, Thor doesn't resemble a storm in any way. He merely gets associated with them today because Mjolnir

Want to say, I may have caught something new- I had a theory that Vikta would have worn red conical hats, but couldn't find much of anything? The Nuremburg Chronicle has a picture of the wizard Merlin depicted wearing a red conical cap. It is the only depiction of him wearing anything remotely similar & it looks like the ornament hanging from the tip is similar to the trident looking thing on Odin's crown in Medieval depictions.
Also, someone was doing some stuff on Turkish mythology & showed that they have a being called an Albasi (among a variety of other names) which is described as a djinn or witch who acts very similarly to Elves. Southern Germans often call Elves Alpa or Elba, I noticed.

Great information. I will point out what everyone will probably disagree with: there is no such thing as Norse Gods. There is the Northern version of the Old Gods, but they existed in all the Old Traditions. There is Creator Sustainer and Destroyer - Consciousness. These are Odin Thor and Loki in the North. In other traditions they are named: Brahma Vishnu and Rudra, An Enlil and Enku, Zeus Poseidon and Hades, Jupiter Mars and Pluto, Ptah Ra and Set etc. These are the male Consciousness aspects. They have complimentary female Matter aspects usually called Sisters or Consorts: Freya Frigga and Hella, Lakshmi Saraswati and Kali, etc. The Males are together known as the Lord or King - Frey/Shiva/Osiris/Demuzi. The females are Lady or Queen: Freya/Shakti/Isis/Inanna etc. Frey and Freya are Lord and Lady. The King is considered Frey manifesting on Earth. He may go by the name of Odin etc, but He is always Frey - Supreme Consciousness, represented by the Sun. He upholds Cosmic Order ... Great Mother. Freya is Mother Earth ... The Queen. The Earth represents Matter. They are Consciousness and Matter, Father and Mother, Sun and Earth. Together they are the Whole ... The Great Mother Goddess ... Nerthus. My ancestors in Mecklenburg called Her Frau Goda. These deities all had different names and stories, but they were the same ... And they are real. There is a reality behind the metaphors.

Mannus is the father of Ing, Irmin, and Istaev. Some have theorized that he may be Neorð (Njord). It may also be tied to Proto-Indo-European First Priest Manu ('Man', 'ancestor of humankind').
Tuisto could have simply meant the most divine of the Gods, or even just Tyr. However, in Proto-Indo-European, Ymir and Tuisto were understood as twin, bisexual or hermaphrodite, and some myths give a sister to the Vedic Yama.
So, there's probable origins of those names for you. You're welcome.

Everybody is divine in his core but that core is hard to get to cause of all sorts of mental 'blockades'(your doing this yourself)you can resolve these 'blockades' in the end, this takes time and effort, there is somewhat of a shortcut that utilizes the effect of thinking that you are something and than you are that something somewhat but this has loads of very negative side effects in behavior(Gleipnir's ingredients are a strong hint to this and a way of dealing whit it but to educate yourself and be very careful, this is as bad as it gets).
The gods in they Edda have 2 separate groups with separate abilities, Vanir all have magic, in the Yogic path there is a stage where there are unsolved psychological issues(think it's the 5th but these mappings differ because the symptoms are somewhat different per person), in this stage magic is abundant.
Certain forms of abuse(that occurs frequently whit adults) maybe a part of this but this is not jet well understood in modern psychology.
Odin has different names in different story's (Graybeard, Odin, Bragi) and somewhat different behavior, gods married off get different names(runanubandha like effects probably) these can be stages in inner evolution.
There might be a method in this madness.

Odin whose name translates as sacred priest his runes carved my family name Thor/Thunder on stone of his love Jord the earth mother for remembrance to remember sacred ancestry for legacy so my own are not forgotten, lest we forget is the saying of Australian Remembrance day that is about deeds and legacy or ancestry. I inherit the title Wilkin which translates as Witcher king which is about male witches like my ancestor Thor who was brought up to be like his mother Jord so Thor could be a witcher. My own inherited Thor's title Bjorn which means the bear we are really from Ragnar Lothbrok's lost grandchild Osketil whose name means Æsir cauldron and seems to be inspired by his great grandmother Aslaug whose name seems to mean Æsir law. Jord the earth mother is real she was just a Volva witch whose own have been found in sacred burials, the earth spirit children of earth mother Jord are real that is why the vikings took their chaos dragon heads off their ships to avoid offending them. One of my most loved family members known as Bjorn ironside introduced the Motte and Bailey castle to peaceful multicultural France which is associated with his burial mound and it is comprised of the mountain of earth mother Jord used to see like a peaceful psychic raven seer with Odin's last eye from up high where Valhalla the sacred hall of the fallen was placed.

    Thaks for your efforts.
I think you´re quite on the spot on your take the celestial and terrestrial connection between “divine forces” in general and humans.
IMO this connection is taking place by “nature” calling an human individual to be initiated and integrated into the natural forces and laws, thus becoming a genuine lead of the tribe or even of a modern society.
Taking cosmic elements and basic forces as being primordial archetypes of both gender polarities, the initiated become “sons and daughters” of the divine forces, i.e., of the “Cosmic Deities”.
Regarding different localities ascribed to different deities, doesn´t necessarily have to do with immigrational matters as all forces/deities is available everywhere on the Earth.
Hence “Odin is ascribed to Asir” = geological Asia, is not correct IMO as this archetype stands for wisdom in large and can be ascribe to any location on Earth.
The same goes for other geographical locations as it´s the factual local initiation experience which constitutes which god or goddess is worshipped.
That said, of course migrations have also played a role on all affected tribes.
All in my initiated opinion, of course 😊Best Wishes.

I think Euhemeris had a point.
e.g. Think of the word "Odin" as a possible/probable royal title and not a name.
Then, there is endrborinn. i.e. reincarnation. think: Hugr, Hamingja, fylgja, etc.
You could be 'reincarnated as your own grandson or great-grandson.
This also would explain Loki's and Odin's various and sundry transformations. ;)

The bottom line is that gods can manifest as they please ... they can manifest as humans, as symbols, archetypes or simply as dreams, whispers, feelings.
That's why they are - gods! But how to explain the essence of gods to humans!? Can a human brain understand the essence of gods? Hardly.
I personally find videos like this adding to confusion and distancing people from gods towards self worship and atheism...
