I still remember buying the Optimus truck. Bought it cuz it’s was just like my pop’s big ol truck and I loved the little thing. Shame I lost him during our last move. You will be missed Optimus Prime and thanks for all the memories.
This and the original Masterpiece Prime were what got me back into collecting Transformers in my early 20s (that and a stupidly good pay raise when I switched jobs). I still have a sizeable collections of BINALTech and Alternators toys and can frequently be found eyeing up the ones I don't have in Dublin City Comics... Though I never actually buy them...
I loved them, they were such great quality compared to most of the stuff that's come along since. This and the Shockwave one were my favourites..never noticed any in DCC though.
Alternators have always had their charm, but seeing this mold, I think this looks better than say... skids, or hound. Speaking of hound.... doggo! Toby deserves a treat for being so well behaved in the video.
that is a lovely toy, feels "premium". I don't even dislike the legs really but agree about the flap behind the head. Also hello Toby, Toby an influencer now aye?
My first Alternator - Smokescreen got me hooked. But the Binaltech die cast versions are even better. My fave Alternator - Jaguar XK Ravage - it's perfect! "Hi" to Toby.
i for one LOVE absolutely LOVE Alternators and Roadbots. Two of my favourite lines of Car robots. I absolutely wish that i could get my hands on these without having to spend masterpiece Money or missing pieces.
I have the binaltech version, it’s a brilliant figure, the binaltech one is full of diecast that alternators removed plus the metallic paint it’s coated in. Would definitely recommend checking out a binaltech figure too to get a sense of the extra heft. Just be careful of the paint chipping and the extra weight that causes it to topple easier. I see you didn’t bother with the flimsy heel flaps which is for the best lol.
I love Binaltech/Alternators, & the follow up Alternity series... totally underrated... yeah the proportions can be a bit goofy on some of them, but those perfect alt modes really hit the Transformers sweet spot for me 😎
They are very marmite these guys. I had a few and some like Smokescreen and wind windcharger I found a joy to transform but others are just a sheer nightmare. Like what X-Transbots are today. Would to see more of these guy pop up on your channel!
I remember that I had a remote controlled race car of this one. It didn't transform (obviously) but the layout and colors and what car it was was on point. I remember that I saw this guy in the back of those Energon pack-in comics you got with a toy and I was like ''Does this transform?''. How disappointed I was when the race car I had didn't. But the best thing that I remember about that toy out of all is that it had exhausts that actually let out a smokescreen.
I didn't get many of the Alternators, but I really enjoyed the ones I DID get. For the most part. Sometimes it hurts to be such a fan of the Ford Mustang . . . .
I bought the alternate paintjob Silverstreak in the department store on a whim back in the 2000s. At first it was impressive, but I kinda got bored with it after several transformations so I sold it. I can't even remember for how much.
For an Alternators toy this guy cleans up really nicely, and the proportions are pretty great. On top of that, we have the usual attention to detail on the car mode that puts many MP/3P figures to shame. If you could somehow combine the feature richness of the Alternators' alt. modes with the posability of contemporary Masterpieces and the sturdiness and quality control of the Hasui era offerings I think you'd come pretty close to perfect premium Transformers toys.
I do like Alternators Smokescreen. I keep wobbling back and forth on if I like Alternators or not but I think a lot of me disliking it is just cos I forget how to transform some of the fiddly bits when I've not fiddled with them in ages. A few months back I spent a good half hour on each one figuring them out, and breaking a bit of Windcharger in the process. Now I've got them memorised they seem much better. The car modes are awesome and the robot modes remind me of them viral videos where someone animated a real car transforming that you used to get before the movies came out. Which were probably influenced by these figures anyway. You Transformers guys on that Twitter going on about these is making em wanna grab a few more now. I'll be blaming you and Sixo for all my financial issues going forward.
2 duds to stay away from in Alternators/Binaltech is Grimlock and Wheeljack. From alt mode to robot its easy, just pull out everything and line up to form a robot, but from robot to vehicle is where the hell starts, so fiddly and so many twists that when youre done 1 of the balljoints will be useless killing off 1 of the arms in bot mode, and doesnt matter how much nail polish you apply, its coming off after next transformation. On my copy it didnt even lined up together that well right out of the box making the car looking like it was fresh from the junkyard. But on the other hand i can recommend Jazz and Shockblast, though they are kinda the same mold. But Hound is nice, a bit heavy on the kibble and mold mate with Swindle. Pissy size for a gun but at least it got one.
I’ve been debating between this skids and the Stepper repaint as robots to put on the “holy grail” list. They’re deserving of it to be sure! (Hello Toby!)
I have quite a few Alternators. Windcharger and Ravage are probably the best overall. Hound and Mirage look great and have fun transformations, but their plastic is brittle and little tabs may break off. Skids and Grimlock also look great, but are a bitch to transform. Sideswipe and Tracks feel unpleasant to transform and have weird proportions. Optimus transforms fine, but his shoulders pop off a LOT. And Prowl feels like a lazy copy of Smokescreen. Never did get my hands on a Rumble because he looks like he has the same problems as Prowl.
@@russellharrell2747 It did indeed happen. "Oh shit, we've made all these Alternators and no Decepticons, except for repaints. So who should we do? Megatron? Soundwave? Starscream? Um... Um... CASSETTEBOTS!"
Back in the day, alternators felt like what the movie bots should have looked like. I think I'd still stand by that.
Hold on tight to your dreams!
A TRDQ and a Basics in the same morning?!...What a perfect start to the day.
Watching those back to back at the moment

For a hot second I thought I'd accidentally clicked on a Chris McFeely video. "The Basics on Alternators"
Well done my man

Yes! More of these Alternator videos, please.
Surprise guest appearance from Toby

Hello Toby! It’s fun seeing pets in transformers toy videos, even if it’s usually just the occasional cat hair.
Stop making Toby wait for their walk, you monster.

"Hi" to Toby.
Pick up Alternators Swindle for sure, my first transformers and a pretty solid start that was.
I have him sitting next to be AS I TYPE! :D
That is such a beautiful alt mode, and I 100% agree that even the messy bits of the robot help sell that it is that car
This is my Holy Grail! I missed the opportunity to pick this one up years ago... but I love the Rally Livery Smokescreen in spite of any flaw.
LETS GOOOOOO! I still need to get my hands on this absolute beauty

Part of me wants to hunt down all the dodge viper bots
Toby is sure TO BE a new fan favourite. I bet there’s already 10 subscribers making up alt modes or wacky cartoons with him as the subject.
Sti performance ?
I'm not a car guy either; but that thing is iconic!
1:25 your dog is just roaming around the house all day with a leash on 😂
He's only a pup and needs it unfortunately. He's a rescue so we don't wanna grab him directly because of his past. But yeah he's just walking around

I deeply regret not getting them when they were at stores

At the time, I thought this was what the live action robots were going to look like. Then I saw the Bay bots. My heart still aches to this day.
1:25 Doggy!
I've considered getting the Swindle toy from this set. It looks like good fun.
I thought I had clicked on the wrong channel for a sec cause of the intro, I was so confused

hi Toby
Where is Repugnus? Did Toby eat him? 😦
DOGGO!
alternator schmalternators you should do a review of toby
I had two Alternators back in the day - Smokescreen and Sideswipe. I miss Smokescreen. Sideswipe less so.
I bet tommi mäkinen be like: why the hell my rally car is became a robot?

Cool.
TRDPro new title for the show?
Dude, i tought i was watching Transformers: The Basics at the beginning.
If you're into Alternators/Binaltech, you should go in on the MPG Trainbots! They're like a cross between Binaltech, Masterpiece, and Car Robots JRX.
TOBY! TOBY! TOBY! TOBY!
Hello Toby
TOBY
I have skids from alternators i found it in a discount store
I wonder...
Is Toby gonna deal with Repugnus when he's being a bad lad or is he really in cahoots with the little bastard to ruin your reviews?
He's eaten Repugnus already unfortunately.
@@TRDQ Wait... Seriously?
@@sebastianpedrozadesantos9078 I'm sure he'll come out the other side eventually

Awaiting the return of the repugnant one.

He sounds like me
The plot thickens.
Ngl, I actually like the name Alternators more because the first name Binaltech seems kinda meh and the 2nd name Kiss Players seems kinda lame.
5/10 because no Repugnus appearance.
