It's probably just a matter of whether you like such character type or not - Garrus in ME1 is a cop with rather strong sense of justice who faces bureaucracy on a daily basis and is on the path of losing any faith in C-Sec. And you as Shepard are walking along with him on this path, helping him realize what is his place in life or encouraging him to undertake a search for one. You are practically his mentor in ME1, there's even a mission, if you remember, about one murderous salarian doctor. In ME2 you face consequences of your interaction with Garrus - he was forced to go out of Shepard's mighty shadow because of semi-natural causes and for several years was left alone with his distaste of blind and slow law and order system, strong want to do right and a perfect example of what a driven person can achieve without the shackles of laws - that's why he went to Omega.

It would be like picking a favorite child...
Drack Tangoed with Zaeed! @8:40, Remember when Zaeed mentioned the best way to scare a Krogan? Zaeed (the crazy eyed merc) tried it (but failed) on Drack!
Vetra is like the big and sarcastic sister I wish I myself never had once at all in my life. She is funny and kick ass and cool and tough and has a huge heart underneath and remembers how much she makes a mistake and wants to correct them. Not big at times at socializing, much, according to conversations with Cora and Peebee, like me at times. If I had a sister like her, my life regarding family would be a lot better and different these days, helping people worry about me for one thing, most importantly at least, because growing up as a little kid, I've never had that, not once, ever.
@@S117M4sterChief he mention that the blood pack tried to assault a ship when he was a passenger, he kill the gang and beat the Krogan leader to the dead, he keeps the helmet like a memento
18:25 - Ouch! That really hit a nerve with Lexi when Peebee said that aloud there. And if I recall, on the ship, when Vetra is standing there with them in the R&D room on the Tempest as well, ooh, that hurts.
I think that with exception of Drack, Lexi and Peebee, I think all of the Tempest crew's ages in years I got it figured out as best as I can: Sara and Scott Ryder: 22 years old, but, Sara was born a minute earlier than Scott, as twins. Cora: 26 years old. Liam: Same as Cora, although, he could also be 25 or 27 years old. Gil: Either around the same age as Sara, Liam or Cora for example, or older. Vetra: 27 or 28 years old, possibly, she can't any older than Garrus when we meet him in M.E.1. Sidera "Sid" Nyx: Vetra's little sister, she must at least, sweet 16 years old, 18 years old at best. Lexi: 275 years old, but acts older, being a doctor with a mother's heart and temperament. Drack: 1,485 years old, very obvious as we all know. Peebee: Surprisingly as we know, 109 years old, same as Liara T'Soni in Mass Effect 3. Jaal: 27 years old. But, he acts older due to his experiences in the Angaran Resistance on Aya. Kallo: Possibly Sara and Scott's age, as Salarians live for 40 years, give or take. Suvi: 18 years old, possibly Sara's age, 22 years old, though she probably just acts younger than she is. -Sources: Mass Effect Fanfiction/ Mass Effect Wiki and lucky guesses or speculation on my part.
I have to admit, the Tempest crew is growing on me. The biggest issue I have here is that the dialogue doesn't flow quite right, like it doesn't sound.....organic.
The whole game is clunky as fuck for a 2017 game. Though I think people don't remember or at least factor in that ME1 was mostly clunky as fuck for a 2007 game (albeit with a few standout aspects like world detail and tools for including many cinematic style conversations).
I never expected to care as much as I do about any them after first impressions. Peebee probably surprised me the most, the only one I can't really deal with is chaotic good Liam...
A lot of the lines here are out of order compared to how they fire in game--for example, the Cora/Lexi book convo is completely mangled, with lines from their second conversation on the matter swapped with ones from the first. In-game, Lexi first tries to get Cora to start reading to relieve stress, then Cora gets hooked, and Lexi has to apologize for not being able to give her any more because the author died. Still appreciate the upload, though! I never heard half of these in my playthrough.
I'm just glad that there IS dialogue between the crewmembers, and it's not just your squadmates either. We had to wait three games before we got that in the original trilogy. The writing does feel a bit more stilted than in Dragon Age for example (Inquisition banter is a thing of beauty imo) but hopefully there will be future games to fine tune it and develop these characters even more. And in just this game we get some amazing moments! I genuinely like all of them for different reasons and for how they built relationships with each other.
Hardcore! Drack during the First Contact War a.k.a Relay 314 Incident, he must have, if not met and/or just seen afar Captain Anderson and maybe Alec Ryder himself somewhere, perhaps. You never know really, but, still, Alec Ryder and Capt. Anderson in the First Contact War, fighting together, side by side, possibly, that is just too cool.
agreed i think this game gets a lot of flack but is a set up for the next game to be amazing. i hated mass effect 1 and i think it'll be similar in that we'll get more characters, improved gameplay, story, more impactful choices, characters that can die, etc. I kinda want the power wheel back so maybe that'll be a thing ??? haha idk
I don't. I think the general system of them is better, but not the crew characters themselves. In some cases I think otherwise - I do enjoy Kallo more than Joker, for example. I might like them better than ME1 crew but that's kinda a thread of the whole game; liking MEA overall better in most ways most of the time more than ME1 (ME1 is the classic title with the maybe best worldbuilding and best late plot, but that's maybe it).
Drack story time (with my bare hands! I imagine PB& co sitting on the ground, watching up to drack and listening to the stories like kids) and "you sir are uninvited to all my parties" :D I love that crew! Oh and "How did you get under there?" she is SO. DAMN. CUTE! (She sounds a bit like Nell Hudson in Outlander... )
Boy if the asari in Andromeda every find out what Liara ends up finding out from Javik I think they may be somewhat as upset as Liara afterwards. That Asari biotics where the result of costly and long bio engineering done by the Protheans that is.
well they had a natural affinity, it was just boosted to create them as weapons for the next cycle and spread knowledge across the galaxy. I think they would be more pissed at the Asari leaders for not doing that.
Still, they forge their future, something the Protheans failed long time ago. I always believed Javik was kind of jealous, his people died but their "experiments" lived on
So I'm on the "Tempest crew > Normandy crew" wagon. I mean, ME 1 crew wasn't that good during the game and Wrex was good because he was only well developed squadmember so he become great in comparison to other ones, ME 2's best squadmates were Garrus & Tali since they got developed from ME 1 and Legion for being Legion and ME 3's best squadmates were... Garrus & Tali for same reasons. And Normandy's engineer/ship doctor/other minor npcs were never as interesting as Tempest's. Meanwhile, everyone on Tempest is at least likeable, worst of them is Cora as she is Kaidan/Jacob of the game and she is still better than those two.
That is classic Lexi at 09:52, brilliant, just really, obviously another great reason why we all love her, smart and funny as well as pretty and cute, with a huge heart & a mother's love for some of the Tempest's crew she shows her biggest concerns for the most: Sara Ryder. Scott Ryder. Peebee. Cora. Gil. Drack. Suvi. Jaal. Liam. And these are the ones she's just worried about the most at times when she is.
Peebee saying "Ew, Baby Poop", had me going a lot than it normally would with her banter and jokes and stuff, when Gil said it was becoming a dad for Jill and him's little kid in the future. She is the best out of them all, to me, the numero uno best of the gang. Plus, good one that is so true from Vetra, tips about parenting, don't go to Peebee, yeah, true on that one indeed.
15:40 dealing with tough stuff is my job doc its true Cora is no stranger to battlefield horrors i mean she went through a whole station full of dead guys who were all beaten to death by an AI and her cyborg soldiers
Vetra is like the Lara Croft of Turians in Mass Effect, whereas Garrus is like the James Bond of Turians, can you imagine the rights to make a Mass Effect T.V crime series with Garrus and Vetra, who they both normally wouldn't meet in the games for obvious reasons, anyway, them two fighting crime and kicking butt and taking names and in a Turian romance together, possibly, that would be so cool, right?
No argument here. Hey even having another Salarian while Kallo drives would be nice. Drack AND Kesh. Or a traditional turian to contrast with Vetra? I think that would be great but Mass Effect never seems to double up on anyone but Humans and I guess this time, Asari.
This is just the Tempest, party and Nomad banter (which is what would be comparable to Inquisition) far outstrips this. Imagine if the characters interacted at Skyhold, that's what this is.
I’d love this type of banter mechanic for ME5 if Shepard and the Normandy crew come back, you know the moving around the ship not being in one place and interacting with each other not just physically but over comms too
I really want Liam and Vetra to pull a Tali/Garrus on us. Oh how glorious it would be for the character everyones bashes on to start boning the character who truly ignited Liam's communal hate. Ps. I love Liam
I gotta say the only person on the crew I'm not a big fan of is Liam, and even then I just think he's a little bland. While I think the crew could go for some more dissenting opinions other than Cora and Peebee I like this crew alot they feel like a nice little dysfunctional family.
I mean Kallo and Gil are pretty harsh, and I was pretty shocked to take Liam and Vetra out and see them absolutely hate one another. To the point Liam even tried to refuse her help, until she explained even if they hate each other, she has every reason to keep him alive. So far it seems the most caustic banter in the game.
Pap Swap I'll be honest I never brought those two along anywhere so I wouldn't know. I guess in part I wanted to see more dislike in other situations similar to jack and Miranda in ME2 Ashley and Liara in ME1 and Javik with everyone in ME3. Kallo and Gil do kind of have that but I guess because they aren't squad mates per say it doesn't feel the same. That's just my opinion though.
Chris ruskin Oh I get you, they do seem very chummy. I agree. Liam and Vetra are my main squaddies that I take everywhere, so I didn't realize more of them didn't outright hate each other until now. He accused her of being a bad influence on Sid and ever since the two of them can barely be civil. They Did come to a truce in that when it is all over they can just avoid each other forever, but I didn't expect them to be the worst in the game.
SO Drack was that Krogan that Zaheed mentions that he threatened to pry off his head plate with a knife love that reference. "get a knife stuck in the right place and you can pry that plate of a krogan's head the thought of it drives them mad"
Compared in a good way, Lexi is like an older, wiser and mature version of Liara in the main trilogy, more socially experienced, whereas Liara, bless her, is slightly more awkward at talking and socializing with others, Peebee by contrast, is a bit like that, like her flirty and sociable little sister, with more experience around people and feels more comfortable talking with them than Liara, either, from the start, or even throughout the series, obviously coming as an Asari scientist and archaeologist and studying for 50 years and a little more besides after M.E.1 perhaps, from studying the Protheans and never being open around people before. Still, back to the point, this is why we all love her, Peebee and Lexi, because they are like Asari sisters in this respect and similarity, all in a good way of course.
Here is a curious thought I think I figured out as a matter of interest, the ages of Sara, or Scott Ryder and their team of friends on the Tempest, my theory anyway: Sara Ryder, like Scott is obviously 22 years old. Lt. Cora Harper is 26 yrs old, a year younger than me actually. Liam Kosta is probably Cora's age, if not a year or two younger, 24, 25 yrs old. Vetra Nyx, possibly, Sara's age, or 23 years old, perhaps, her little sister, Sid, 21 yrs old, maybe. Dr. Lexi T'Perro is 230+ years old and still a young Asari Maiden at the time. Nakmor Drack, obvious, 1,483 years old, even for a old and super-strong, wise Krogan like him. Gil Brodie is possibly the same age as Cora and Liam, thereabouts. Kallo Jath, the Salarian Pilot, even for his people's 40 year lifespan, in his 20's, perhaps. Peebee, like Dr. Liara T'Soni in M.E.3, is 109 years old, but, you'd never really know with her. Jaal Ama Darav, is actually 27 years old, like me actually, when you think about it, sometimes. (Dr.) Suvi Anwar, is my guess, the youngest on the team, a sweet & dear 18 to 20 yrs old. Just something to think about the next time you either play M.E.A or listen to the conversations or whatever and let anyone else you know and all know as well, but, of course, I am still guessing, I have to be honest been wrong before, who knows really...
Why is it every time Peebee says "You're Welcome", to anyone on the team, Nomad or Tempest, I get the sudden feeling-- Actually, I think you can guess really to be honest.
Here is a curious thing about what the gang on the Tempest and more importantly, what Ryder, Sara or Scott and Suvi talk about it and God as well in mind. Am I alone the only one who's ever wondered about what the Jardaan look like, present tense, because they are still living, but not in Heleus, anyway, they wouldn't look like Jaal and the Moshae and their people, would they? Because God would not, according to some people and other sources, look like a Human himself or herself, whichever you prefer, because that would be probably biased or just weird or something. right? I reckon, like God, the Jardaan would look different than the Angara because God made us as apes in the start by contrast, so, the people at Khi Tasira would made the Angara look like something unlike them, right? This is an active debate of opinions that I think we can consider, if anyone's interested to share, perhaps? Generally I think I want to hear from anyone, for a time at least, on what they themselves think and if they agree. Personal opinion about the Jardaan's appearance and all: They probably look similar like either Elves or the Asari, they probably have the Angara's E.M ability, but, like the Protheans teaching the Asari in their day, have also Biotics too, maybe. They probably have Cybernetic and other implants attached to their bodies as well. That is just for now as far as I got with my theory at least, but, then again, if anyone else has a better one that makes more sense, let know please.
I was the opposite. I was disapointed after playing KotOR and Jade Empire that they had such little personality. Couldn't get into anyone until ME2 and almost didn't play it because I found the characters so dull. Glad I did, ME2 has the best characterization in the series.
Are you gonna do anything like this for other NPCs? It's quite frustrating how no matter how many times I play through it, I miss the first half of a conversation so I don't even know what people are talking about until it's over. I get enough of that in real life thank you!

So help me I will turn this ship around
I'm getting this game now
Drack Tangoed with Zaeed!
@8:40, Remember when Zaeed mentioned the best way to scare a Krogan? Zaeed (the crazy eyed merc) tried it (but failed) on Drack!
Wonder if Drack ever fought Wrex
"In what world do ladders only go one way?!?!?!?"
EARTH
“So help me I will turn this ship around!” 🤣😂
Vetra is like the big and sarcastic sister I wish I myself never had once at all in my life. She is funny and kick ass and cool and tough and has a huge heart underneath and remembers how much she makes a mistake and wants to correct them. Not big at times at socializing, much, according to conversations with Cora and Peebee, like me at times. If I had a sister like her, my life regarding family would be a lot better and different these days, helping people worry about me for one thing, most importantly at least, because growing up as a little kid, I've never had that, not once, ever.
I am 60% through my second play through and haven't heard 1/2 of this. Thanks for compiling
12:55 natalie dormer character makes a game of thrones reference
Jaal learning to play Snakes and Ladders is hilarious.
Thanks for making this!!
Did Zaeed try to pull of Drack's frontplate? I mean, I guess it wasn't him, since one of them would not have survived that encounter.
Didn't Zaeed say that he actually popped one of them off though?
Grinddor Didn’t Zaeed once mention facing off against a krogan and barely got away?
@@S117M4sterChief he mention that the blood pack tried to assault a ship when he was a passenger, he kill the gang and beat the Krogan leader to the dead, he keeps the helmet like a memento
18:25 - Ouch! That really hit a nerve with Lexi when Peebee said that aloud there. And if I recall, on the ship, when Vetra is standing there with them in the R&D room on the Tempest as well, ooh, that hurts.
I think that with exception of Drack, Lexi and Peebee, I think all of the Tempest crew's ages in years I got it figured out as best as I can:
Sara and Scott Ryder: 22 years old, but, Sara was born a minute earlier than Scott, as twins.
Though I think people don't remember or at least factor in that ME1 was mostly clunky as fuck for a 2007 game (albeit with a few standout aspects like world detail and tools for including many cinematic style conversations).
plot twist they are reapers
Goddamn, Jaal is an absolute charmer
I can't believe I'm saying this but I think I like the tempest crew more than the Normandy
agreed i think this game gets a lot of flack but is a set up for the next game to be amazing. i hated mass effect 1 and i think it'll be similar in that we'll get more characters, improved gameplay, story, more impactful choices, characters that can die, etc. I kinda want the power wheel back so maybe that'll be a thing ??? haha idk
They have better interactions with each other, helps that the ship is smaller.
117darksonic get out
117darksonic take cover
Drack story time (with my bare hands! I imagine PB& co sitting on the ground, watching up to drack and listening to the stories like kids) and "you sir are uninvited to all my parties" :D I love that crew! Oh and "How did you get under there?" she is SO. DAMN. CUTE! (She sounds a bit like Nell Hudson in Outlander... )
She also sounds like Cait from Fallout 4.
I always believed Javik was kind of jealous, his people died but their "experiments" lived on
8:42 That crazy one eyed merc was Zaeed!
Thanks! Amazing collection
That is classic Lexi at 09:52, brilliant, just really, obviously another great reason why we all love her, smart and funny as well as pretty and cute, with a huge heart & a mother's love for some of the Tempest's crew she shows her biggest concerns for the most:
Sara Ryder.
Scott Ryder.
Peebee.
Cora.
Gil.
Drack.
Suvi.
Jaal.
Liam.
And these are the ones she's just worried about the most at times when she is.
8:41 Drack is talking about Zaeed.
15:40 dealing with tough stuff is my job doc
its true Cora is no stranger to battlefield horrors i mean she went through a whole station full of dead guys who were all beaten to death by an AI and her cyborg soldiers
Thanks as always for these Dana Duchy!
Are you able to find Nomad banter?
Vetra is like the Lara Croft of Turians in Mass Effect, whereas Garrus is like the James Bond of Turians, can you imagine the rights to make a Mass Effect T.V crime series with Garrus and Vetra, who they both normally wouldn't meet in the games for obvious reasons, anyway, them two fighting crime and kicking butt and taking names and in a Turian romance together, possibly, that would be so cool, right?
Wait wait wait! Drack met a crazy human mercy that tried to peel off his head plate with a knife... Zaeed!?
12:54 Sick Game of Thrones burn, Your Grace.
I wish there were more squadmates or Crew members of the same species. Not counting humans.
Well, PeeBee and Lexi are both Asari?
Pap Swap i know. But wouldnt it be great to have two turians or krogans on board?
No argument here. Hey even having another Salarian while Kallo drives would be nice. Drack AND Kesh. Or a traditional turian to contrast with Vetra? I think that would be great but Mass Effect never seems to double up on anyone but Humans and I guess this time, Asari.
Sid/Vetra teamup next game *fingerscrossed*
The Dragon Age Inquisition crew had maybe almost 2 hours of banter, but then again that was a big crew.
This is the banter strictly on the Tempest together. They have much more banter out and about exploring.
This is just the Tempest, party and Nomad banter (which is what would be comparable to Inquisition) far outstrips this. Imagine if the characters interacted at Skyhold, that's what this is.
Snakes and Ladders in Space
Sounds like a cheesy 70's sci fi T.V show that might work for 2 seasons at least, or Channel 4 reality series right there isn't it?
I’d love this type of banter mechanic for ME5 if Shepard and the Normandy crew come back, you know the moving around the ship not being in one place and interacting with each other not just physically but over comms too
8:40 ZAEED MENTION! :D
You meet his son on Eos, he calls Ryder "Little Duck"
Now we just need the tempest banter. Because apparently Bioware has no clue how to make it work in game .
The author died before finishing the series....NO MARJORIE STOP IT. DONT JINX IT.
What do you... OH GOD NO. NO. NOOOOOOOOO!
I almost expect at some point Ryder is going to walk in on Lexi and Drax doing the nasty in the Med Bay.
I really want Liam and Vetra to pull a Tali/Garrus on us. Oh how glorious it would be for the character everyones bashes on to start boning the character who truly ignited Liam's communal hate. Ps. I love Liam
19:56: Peebee - "Ew! Baby Poop!" I just lost it as she said that.
I love Natalie Dormer, especially in this!
18:51 Jaal???
I love these Peebee/Lexi discussions! 😂
So, Zaeed tried to pull off Drack’s head plate?
I don't think I'd last a conversation with Liam without punching him in the face.
12:53 poor G.R.R.M.
ohhhh so thats were zaeed tried to pry off the headplate
12:55 Natalie Dorner’s referencing George R. R. Martin lol
I love Jaal ♥
12:54 for the GoT reference. :D
It’s a crime Kallo only has one game he’s in
7:03 I love you, Jaal
Cora is fierce fighter and caring girl that's good so with a little patience and better writing she could be the best female squad mate in series
I’d take Zaeed’s son over Liam any day
"Ryder. Ryder's my adventure"
Aww❤
21:24 Ah. Drack
SO Drack was that Krogan that Zaheed mentions that he threatened to pry off his head plate with a knife love that reference. "get a knife stuck in the right place and you can pry that plate of a krogan's head the thought of it drives them mad"
Okay I'm going to do my damnedst to hook up the Doctor and the old man.
16:30 nosebleed
Just FYI minor spoilers during the video
Still, back to the point, this is why we all love her, Peebee and Lexi, because they are like Asari sisters in this respect and similarity, all in a good way of course.
i wonder what Lexi's reaction would be if she meet an Nav'i from the movie avatar
Liam and Jaal is interesting even when you ride with them
How... do you get the dialogue at 20:05? Peebee did not say that in my playthrough, is it a romance thing, or no?
I think it's a romance thing. Did you romanced her in your pt?
wait zaed was the merc who tried to pry of dracks frontal plate
7:03 xD
#MEAndromedaWasNotBad
ok, i hear suvi's voice, but i keep thinking of Cait from Fallout 4 lol, i know they share the same voice actress lol
Wait wat?! Really?
08:22 - Gross!
I like them both. MEA got a lot of bad rep, it was a good game. Both have different characters who were amazing in their own ways.
I love my crew, but I admit I didn't like Peebee and Drack joining in the beginning, they were like: I'm joining you like it or not.
Here is a curious thought I think I figured out as a matter of interest, the ages of Sara, or Scott Ryder and their team of friends on the Tempest, my theory anyway:
Sara Ryder, like Scott is obviously 22 years old.
That is just for now as far as I got with my theory at least, but, then again, if anyone else has a better one that makes more sense, let know please.
wish the Normandy doc was more like Lexi
Well they're not as good as the Normandy crew imo, but they're defiantly good ( most of them anyway)
The Truth Yea compare 3 games to 1, ofc the crew from the normandy will stand out vs tempest
Ziircool No, when mass effect 1 was released I loved the crew from the start, from this first game, I don't like the new crew as much.
I was the opposite. I was disapointed after playing KotOR and Jade Empire that they had such little personality. Couldn't get into anyone until ME2 and almost didn't play it because I found the characters so dull. Glad I did, ME2 has the best characterization in the series.
I'll make sure he goes Lexi...… Thank you Cora your up first by the way. Ah shit!
Are you gonna do anything like this for other NPCs? It's quite frustrating how no matter how many times I play through it, I miss the first half of a conversation so I don't even know what people are talking about until it's over.
I get enough of that in real life thank you!
Will you be doing Nomad banter as well?
