When Don Cornelius first came up with the idea of what was essentially to become an African American version of American Bandstand, the leading TV producers of the time laughed him out of their offices. When he persevered and brought Soul Train to fruition, turning it into a resounding success, those same producers tried to buy him out. When he refused to sell, they tried to run him out of the business by developing a copycat version of his show in an attempt to usurp his audience- they failed. Don Cornelius' father taught him at a very young age how to box, how to fight and stand up for himself against larger and stronger opponents. It was the grit and determination born of that earlier experience which made his initial success possible, and his eventual longevity in the business inevitable.

Like Berry Gordy before him, Don Cornelius was a smart, ambitious, business guy who broke the color barrier....made it cool to be Black....and helped change America by bringing the Human Race together through the power of Music. God bless.

On what planet did Don Cornelius break the color barrier/unite the races through the power of music and/or made it cool to be black? Newsflash:. The color barrier is completely intact. And, it's too bad DC wasn't that cool being black himself! Perhaps, if he were, he would never/could never have married a white female (who represents 50% of racism/white supremacy alongside her white man), leaving all his fortune to her at his death.
