What a Christmas present for audiences in 1954! Great sets, wonderful choreography, and Cab Calloway at the top of his game working his magic on a Ray Henderson classic! DeSylva & Brown's lyrics never sounded better! This is as good as it gets!
For fans of Janet Jackson, like myself, Cab Calloway is fondly remembered for the cameo in Janet's "Alight" video in 1990. For youngsters like myself who missed the golden era of music prior to the 1960's, it was a nice tribute to a man who influenced many artists.
@@roberthaber8510- The biggest female artist in the world at the time wanted to pay respect to a legend and introduce that legend to a brand new youthful audience, like myself. I don't negatively judge Cab Calloway for participating in that video at all.
@@roberthaber8510 - I'm not understanding the motivation to judge which artist is more legendary as that wasn't the purpose of my message. But I think Janet would agree with you about Cab Calloway.
@@shyman99 I'm not judging. I just like him better than her. I like Nat Cole, Ray Charles, Charlie Pride, Sammy Davis, Jr. & Sr., and many more. To me, She's screechy, not as smooth or melodious as say, Ethel Waters or Della Reese. Screechy. That's the best I can do.
This was back in the day when my Dad used to see Cab at "The Track" (Yonkers Raceway). The NYC "wiseguys" always reserved a "box" for him and his troupe. Everybody liked "Cab" on and off the stage.
Fantastic!! I Love the dance ensembles black & white outfits! Happy Friday... thank you for sharing! 💖 Where is our favorite Music Historian, Tom Smith?! 🎶
When I was in college I worked for the North White Plains, NY post office during the Christmas holidays. My route included Cab Calloway's address, so I delivered his mail for 2 weeks.

Cab Calloway was so much better than Janet Jackson. He is an authentic hero, musician, role model. A great man.

I don't dispute that. I just like him better.

I saw Cab Calloway in South Florida, in the mid 1980's, it was a Fantastic show.
First time seeing this, thank you!
Such an amazing talent.

1954 Toast of The Town😀👍🏿
Do you have the Sammy Davis version?
Солнечный талант !
I learned that song in intermediate school.
AW REET!
Filmed in color?
Given the way the blacks and whites look in this clip, you may be right. Plus CBS did broadcast some programs in color by this point.
I love Cab but I'm afraid this version of Birth of the Blues pales in comparison with the mighty Sammy Davis jr.
Heidi Heidi ho
Great showman, terrible singer.
Don’t be mad cuz he has more talent than you’ll ever have bud 😌
