      Some people misunderstood his recommendations in this video, I don’t mean you, just to clarify.
      I think what he really mean is that, The product he was reviewing which is Huion Giano cost at 200$, the price is close to the most affordable screen display tablets such as Huion Kamvas and Xp-Pen Artist at size 11” and 13” which he mentioned in the video. Just spend about 25$-50$ more, people can get a pen display tablet at size 11” or 13”. Beginners, will likely search for pen display tablet if their budget is around the price of Huion Giano. If people new to digital arts really on tight budget, they will seek for cheaper regular graphic tablet at small to medium size.

    I always love your takes on drawing tablets, Brad. I wanted to clarify one thing . At about 0:44 you mention that the Giano is comparable to Intuos [Pro] Medium which you say "has a slightly smaller drawing area". This understates the difference. The Giano's has 2x the amount of active area of the Intuos Pro Medium and actually has slightly more than the Wacom Intuos Pro Large. Spec below:
    Wacom Intuos Pro Medium PTH-660
    - Active Area: 51.04 sq in
    - Cost: $380
    Wacom Intuos Pro Large PTH 860
    - Active Area: 103.7 sq in
    - Cost: $500
    Huion Giano G930L
    - Active Area: 115.6 sq in
    - Cost: $200
    For anyone looking to try a large tablet and want a detailed walkthrough of using one, I recently published a video about my experience with the Wacom Intuos Pro Large that you may find useful in making a purchase decision: ua-cam.com/video/YCmVugc3w_g/v-deo.html

      I just want to add that you can go ebay, pick a intuos 4/5 large for 100 bucks today. destroys any fancy pants 32'' 4k cintiq or whatever brand you want to compare. always. Ergonomics are king because your back and neck health matters more, heck, you can even soft the blow on drawing from the arm due to posture if you lay it flat, using minimum effort to draw.
      drawing for 6-8 hours 7 days a week, without ended up destroyed. thats what the good ergonomic posture of screenless tablets have. And a Large model allows you to use the arm a lot more than a medium size. The small ones are guaranted 100% wrist killers, those are all bad and carpal tunel makers.
      im just gonna say that brad did a terrible job explaining why this device at 200 bucks matters. is not for people who draw casually 2 hours on a saturday, is for those that spend A LOT of time drawing and are at risk of damaging their body overworking.
      if you are on a notebook screen, medium size 10x6 is perfect. If you are on a 24'' or bigger, you need large.

    I think you would have done the product more justice if you reviewed it with a bigger monitor, where drawing with tiny tablets is just annoying.
    How i envision it is that this is probably mostly bought by companies, where they just leave these things on a desk setup, as this doesn't look travel friendly

    • @whenhen
      @whenhen 2 роки тому +7

      Correct. I do some IT purchasing and just buy our designers the biggest drawing tablet that they want. It's staying on their desk which has two 27" monitors, via a drawing tablet stand, so who cares how big it is? Their keyboards and mice are Bluetooth, so they can easily move them out of the way when needing to use the tablet. If they need a portable surface, they all have personal iPads with an Apple pencil, and I'm happy if they ask to be reimbursed x dollars for Duet Display or something which enables their iPad to be a touch screen monitor. If we hired one who didn't have an iPad, and they needed a portable display, I'd happily offer a cheap, smaller drawing tablet for on the go use

    This tablet is definitely meant for those who *know* they prefer spending on a screenless tablet and want something big/have a large monitor. Probably not an easy recommendation for beginners but it's definitely meant to fill that specific niche for veterans since I know some professionals just stick with screenless tablets because it's what they're comfortable with.
    (I know a large reason people still stick to screenless tablets is mainly for the ergonomics and to avoid constant eyestrains from directly at a screen for too long.)

    I think having bigger ones is good while being screenless because some have bigger monitors and prefer to look straight ahead, this also means they get to keep the same display quality when upgrading their pen tablet.
    While it gets more accurate the closer it gets to the screen size , it also makes you move your arm more so keep that in mind , i use H1060P and i think its better for me no matter how big the monitor gets , because moving my arm too much is tiring.

      I think that A4 paper size is perfect for a sole reason: when you draw with muscle memory, if you carry that to a normal sketchbook, everything looks the same. contrary to what happens when yo do the same with a tablet medium size. i end up drawing tiny drawings on my sketchbooks, so i really think that for anyone that still like to draw with pen and paper, large screenless tablets offer the best of 2 worlds: digital and traditional sketching feels the same and you can do both without feeling any difference.

  • @graphosxp

    I use a large tablet connected to a computer which is paired with a 49 inch TV. This is useful for sitting back on the sofa 12 feet away from the screen and doing blocking\perspective setups. it also works well with gesture figure drawing and that is where the longer pen travel comes in useful. I don't think a tablet should be bigger than the screen it is paired with. smaller than the screen is probably the right way to go.

  • @fablewalls
    @fablewalls 2 роки тому +9

    Hey Brad - this isn't a criticism of your drawing style but I don't believe this tablet or any large tablet would be just for pros. I think anyone who likes to use large sweeping gestures to draw would benefit - one thing I always hated small dead tablets or even screen tablets like the iPad for was the small drawing gestures you have to use. I trained originally working on A1 in Art School and going from A1 to an A5 surface is really hard - whether you're a pro or a student at college.
    My favourite screen tablet so far ever is still my old Dell Canvas - 27 inches was just fabulous for drawing on.

      Just a casual artist myself, so very different experience, but i never quite got used to using full arm for drawing. Since most of my drawing is done one a printer page sized medium, it wasn’t really needed and ended with wrist drawing habbit. So even on my screen-less drawing tablet, i have it set to NOT use such large motions. Rather than its default setting, i have set it to “mouse” so it acts exactly like a mouse. If i lift pen of tablet, it stays on that spot and continues from there wherever i set back the pen. This method also eliminated learning curve of screen-less tablets for me.

    Brad I think there is something you are missing in your reviews and something people should be aware of generally about Huion.
    Most of the screenless tablets they have been releasing over the past couple of years are in no way designed for left handed people,
    on this exact model the screen is upside down and the charging port would be on the bottom right hand corner for left handers,
    On the HUION Inspiroy Dial Q620M the dial would be at the bottom of the quick keys and the charging port near the bottom but not quite so bad,
    the HS611 has a whole row of touch media keys that would be upside down and on the bottom and the Keydial KD200 has a half a keyboard on the wrong side because they don't offer a left handed version.
    I will not buy from Huion again and just bought the XP Pen deco pro wireless medium instead of Huion who would have been my go to brand.
    Is it posible that you could mention any potential issues for left handers in future reviews? Cheers!

  • @JH-pe3ro
    @JH-pe3ro Рік тому

    I came back to this review because I've been changing my perspective on graphic tablets vs displays again.
    The trick is that I've been doing a lot of blind contours in my sketchbook, and this method of practicing drawing encourages you to only think about lines in terms of what they physically feel like to execute. Sometimes I will hold the sketchbook at different angles to build more awareness of how the motion changes and what feels good. Translating those motions onto a graphic tablet is completely natural and means your brain isn't actually "thinking" in relationship to the screen cursor, it uses the screen to find the starting point and the scale, and the rest is muscle memory.
    The screen does help when making little choppy movements where you're actively looking at the tip of the pen to find the mark, but that's the kind of drawing that most instruction actively tries to train you out of. John Singer Sargent: *always draw the longest line you can remember.* I still get choppy when I'm doing thumbnails, but I'm doing that on paper and then taking a snapshot on my phone to give the sketch a starting point. So, given the option, now I'd rather go with "large graphics tablet and large high refresh rate screen" over "large display tablet". Higher refresh does still allow me to react to my drawing, but if I'm fully engaging with Sargent's advice, I could have the screen not update at all while I make the mark and still get a decent result.

    Laptops usually have magnets integrated near their keyboard or the trackpad for the sensors to know if the laptop lid is closed or not. These magnets interfere with the functions on some of the graphics tablets out there depending on the technology used for their pen tracking. I have used an XP-Pen Deco 03 before, and this was also the case. However, most Wacom graphics tablets are not susceptible to this kind of problem because the design of technologies used for pen tracking is different. So if you are having a problem with the pen tracking of your graphic tablet going haywire once you set it on top of the laptop keyboard, then this is probably why.

    Giano or Janus is the Roman god of time, passage, movement and transition (change). I presume this product marked a significant point in the company history where change had occurred, but you would have to ask Huion. If you read Cisero, he makes some good comments on the role of Janus. I suspect this was due to lockdown and pressures facing Huion. Alternatively, being the god of movements does tie in fairly well to the function of a tablet. It is not a corruption of "giant" like you suggest, you need to read more classics Brad.

I notice just about everyone who reviews these uses them on laptops but I'm on a desktop so I end up having to send them back.

    From inspiroy series i have only smallest h420x. It's nice to use it with android phone, makin' some flipaclip things; and from "meh" to "okay" when you connect it to pc - with all this glorious specs smallest tablet is still slightly uncomfortable in combo with normal sized monitor

    Ahhh I would love to know if these larger tablets have some sort of measure of how many sensors they have like per inch or something in that vein. If it was high enough compared to my current pen tablet, I would absolutely LOVE something like this to use with more than one monitor.

    Haha that’s absolutely wild you’re getting sponsored by maya!? People don’t just download maya if they don’t know how to use it! You only really use maya if that’s what you learned to use from college or if your workplace uses it I truly can’t imagine why autodesk would sponsor ads. Besides that, it’s definitely the best 3d animation software out there lol.

    Have Huion reused USB ID's for this like they have done in the past (which makes writing driver's a nightmare)?

    Why can't I find a review made by you on neither the wacom cintiq 13 HD or 13 pro? I'm thinking of buying one second-hand but there's only like 3 reviews on the entirety of UA-cam on the HD one. And they don't show much of the actual drawing process mostly talking. Would be nice if you could review these.

    Seems little bit too large to work confortably - for me, as far as graphics tablet is concerned, the medium size is the sweet spot. Also the left shortcut and info area could better used with extra buttons, a dial or a bigger LCD but, probably, would have increased the price. You didn't mentioned it but if you use the info panel wouldn't it restrict it only to right hand users? Does this model support touch or hand gestures?...

      Really depends on your preference, really. Yeah a screen tablet at 300$ gives more value in a more objective sense, but that doesn't matter if someone simply doesn't like drawing on a screen because of reasons like the ergonomics or eyestrain caused by drawing a screen tablet setup.
