My older sister took me to see Gremlins in the theater. Loved it although it still kinda scared me. She also took me to see Robocop. I decision I still question to this day.

I picked up the new Optimus Prime, and it had the same stretchy bands. I used needle nose to stretch, and turn the little "T" pieces and put it back into the package.

I used to have the big LJN Stripe..a neighbor kid tossed it up and broke the arm..the peg that held it to the torso.. remember the rubber head,spun platic hair,arm wrist,and leg articulation
NECA is so hit or miss. While some of my NECA Pacific Rim and aliens feel like they'll break and won't stand, my NECA TMNT stuff feels so fun to pose, especially the cartoon Shredder. One thing that's consistent tho... NECA stuff is gorgeous.
NECA sells multipacks of display stands that have the pegs for the feet. That's why the figures have holes in the feet when the display accessories in the package don't have pegs. The funny thing is, the generic display stand pegs are usually too loose on whatever figure you put on it so they don't hold the figures in place anyway (especially since NECA figures are typically somewhat topheavy and gravity will pull them over regardless of if their feet are pegged to a stand or not).
I agree, I mostly collect Neca figures. They usually use twisty ties for their figures, but they change it up once in a while for no reason.. I always have to buy the stands Neca makes to make them stand up due to their small feet or just the fact that some of the figures cant stand. The figures I have noticed that are good at standing are the Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers figures.
@RetroBlasting - You can buy one of those plastic tag guns through the catalog at Staples. I just re-seal it. I also got my thermal cellophane wrap machine from there as well, so I could resell something if I have to, or if I just want to display it again… Like if I want to take out the video game or DVD but leave the statue and trading cards and art book in there, I’ll put the cellophane wrap back over it… Or plastic or whatever
I always suspected Necca's boxed retro IP stuff was purely boxed display pieces, they all look beautiful IN THE BOX and are designed as only that, thanks Michael for confirming this suspicion of mine. I love well done packaging, but if I'm buying a toy, or even a statue, I want to be able to display it out in the open so I can touch it, handle it, enjoy the feel of it and look of it on my shelf. If I'm displaying nice packaging, let it be a Criterion edition of a film or a nice cd/vinyl boxed set. Also, *raaaahhh* was hilarious, I make that noise for gremlin like creatures all the time as well, thank you for showing me I'm not the only one!
Gremlins isnt just for Halloween, its for display any time of the year ... just not with your vintage collectibles it goes in your modern collectibles area.

The joints on the lower legs are real dodgy it really needs a stand. I used a Neca display stand you can buy separate (it really should come with one).
I'm with Salud here. NECA produces amazing figures, sure they can be a bit stiff if you don't heat them beforehand, & there's the occasional QC issue(like with every company) but NECA goes above & beyond to deliver great figures that pose really well.
Good grief. I guess modern toys just aren't for you, Michael. NECA does sell stands (in 10 packs) that will work with the holes in the feet. Also important to remember, NECA is a *tiny* company, not a mass-producing commercial entity like Hasbro or Mattel... They don't have the resources & frankly, $ the big boys have. Maybe the joints & standability would be more to your liking if they did. Over all, tho: nice review; a fair look at it. One thing however, most collectors don't really consider NECA as "premium" collectibles. Not at THAT price point.

Don't worry Mike. He will break all on his own in his little plastic craddle if you just leave him there. NECA does wonderful sculpts with excellent paint. But the plastic they use is like recycled chewing gum. Their Pacific Rim line was crippled by just how often the figures broke just coming out of the packaging. The joints bing stress and crack. Or they just crack all on their own from some inner forces.
I have 6 of these Gremlins currently and even with the NECA stands that come in the 10 packs not one can stand with them. The best I can do is have one arm dangle down to the side and touch the ground for support or have them propped against one another.
It is my opinion that all NECA figures look way better than they are functional. I love them and probably always will but they are very difficult to pose.
My father bought the 2 2packs of the caroling gremlins I love the detail of the figures plus the joints on ours are tight but not to tight. I must say they will not stand to save my life Neca has a pack of stands that you could buy but after spending 25-30 dollars on the figure the figure should have a stand included.
I know how ya feel, man. I got a few necas figures, a bat gremlin for starters, and I don't even want touch the package cuz I keep thinking that they're gonna break.(Has a few that broke upon contact.)

Welcome to NECA figures. Sometimes I will put them in hot water to loosen the joints. As for the bands, I use needle nose pliers to manipulate them through the holes.
I love Gremlins, as a film, and also the creature design. I bought the NECA Ultimate Gamer Gremlin, which is also a nice design but sadly the glasses it came with were already snapped, very fragile thin plastic sheet. And the hat it comes with cannot actually fit onto the head and barely rests on top but looks stupid. I only use the NES cart and tabletop console accessories with mine. Still like it overall though. And come payday I'll be ordering the Christmas Carol 2 pack gremlins
I'll SLIGHTLY fight you on the peg holes thing, since not only does Neca sell packs of stands(that's not a defense against them not including one, just mentioning it), but having the option to use a stand for any figure is nice to have. The Funko Batman 66 Batgirl figure doesn't come with the stand despite clearly needing one, but she has pegholes in her feet that allow me to use a Doctor Who 3.75 stand on her, so it's LESS bothersome. On the flip side, the smaller scaled Tomy Classic Sonic doesn't have any peg holes at all, so his running poses are heavily dependant on his own balance, which would be much improved if I could use one of my stands with him. Even if they don't come with a stand, peg holes are really handy.

Wow, I am actually relieved. As a horror fanatic, I was disappointed with myself for not prioritizing these recent NECA figures, but after seeing this I’m glad I saved my money. Thank you! I have had quality control issues with NECA in the past. Losing the David figure from THE LOST BOYS because of that hurt the most; I had some very personal attachments associated with that figure. On a happier note, one of my best celebrity meetings was me and singer Wednesday 13 geeking out about LJN’s GREMLINS toys.
I honestly think with NECA you get the most bang for your buck as far as collectible figures go. They really aren’t action figures at all when I come to think of it. They are more like scaled down replicas that have the ability to articulate. For people who collect figures like this it’s the sculpt that is always the selling point, and not the articulation as they really aren’t meant to be played with, but rather displayed. I can see where you are coming from though, as you a diehard vintage collector so your priority for a good figure is function over fancy where as this appeals to the complete opposite of that.
Circuit city… LOL. We had one in Bellingham Washington, being that that was mainly a Canadian store in my town was right on the border by 24 miles. Y’all remember good guys store?? Which was exactly like circuit city but had higher end stuff and left all the household appliances out of their inventory Like they had $20,000 plasm TVs before circuit city, they had cell phones and plans a good year almost before circuit city… Higher end more expensive receiver and speakers, which I’d rather get from them then a store that sells fucking toasters
We had Ultimate Electronics in the States for a while. Same thing. They carried a $10,000 Pioneer elite plasma in 2000. Best damn TV ever. Martin-Logan speakers, Denon, Krell CD Players and Amps, etc. I worked install so I was doing all the high end home theater installs and such. Problem was most people thought that was all they carried. They also had big screen TVs for under $1000 and more standard definition tube TVs than anyone else.
Nothing is made to last any more. Toy collecting of today's toys will not come about the way ours did. If you play with any of them, really play with them, they will not last and will not be able to be restored.
NECA figures generally look great and I'm a huge fan of them. But, they definitely have their weak points in their generally limited articulation and overly tight/stiff/gummy joints. Any time I decide to take out a NECA figure of its package (which is most of them, honestly) I usually put a bit of silicone oil (commonly sold as radio-control car shock oil) on the joints and allow it to wick its way in. That usually frees the joints up and allows for much easier posing. I know that we shouldn't have to "fix" our toys right out of the package, but, it can easily and cheaply improve your enjoyment of the figure. Give it a shot sometime! And remember, a little oil goes a long way. Try a little bit at a time on each joint. I usually use a toothpick to apply it and wipe off any excess with a paper towel. A $5 bottle of silicone oil will last you YEARS. The stuff will also work great on your other figures and toys.
I forgot about Circuit City rentals. Ofcourse I lived 20 mins northwest of Nashville so Rivergate CC was closest and we didn't get out there much. Anyway great video.
Neca is hit & miss for me. They make great looking stuff but qc issues with brittleness and off balance issues can happen. Did you get the Neca movie Tmnt? Those are so of the best figures I've ever bought. *RIP Michael's thumbs, never forget.
I don't suppose (if i put my tinfoil hat on for a moment) that it would be out of the realm of possibility that this company are hoping that collector's will buy two of these figures. Obviously one to open and one to keep boxed?!! No forget it. no one would be inclined to do anything like that. Just on a side note, I was pleasantly surprised this afternoon as in my home town there is a new toy shop. An actual toy shop!! What made it even better was that they had a whole section dedicated to Games Workshops Citadel miniatures. I used to be really into the hobby years ago and to see what's on offer now has me really enthused to take it up again. I see lot's and lot's of flocked grass and paint in my future!!! I love the Neca stuff but I have to say the joints on a lot of their figures are normally very stiff out of the box, just have to give them a warm water bath for about 10 minutes and that solves the stiffness issue. Also with certain figures of theirs unfortunately you do need figure stands which Neca sells in packs for $10 (go figure). I do wholeheartedly agree with you Michael on those stupid bands I really hate them, but as a modern collector I have noticed more and more companies are using them such as Hasbro for the transformers Siege line. I didn't ever think I would miss the twist ties but I find myself out buying them to replace those awful plastic bands when I need to put something back in their box.
Sucks that the figure stand well. I had the same problem with the Pacific Rim figures so I had to get the clear figure stands . That’s why the figures have peg holes.
Yeah, that's the thing with NECA figures, you just put them in some hot water for a bit & the joints should work. Also yeah you've got to spend a minute setting them up but these Gremlins are great. I've collected NECA for years & they're amazing figures for posing.
NECA; we need a Phoebe Cates figure please. love these quick videos. Your effort has not gone unnoticed. The could’ve engineered him to have bigger feet but I kinda appreciate the fact they didn’t to keep his proportions correct. They could’ve put pegs on the skateboard though. NECA does make some neat little figure stands that would help(assuming they are compatible with this figure)
Thank you for taking the toy out, I was tempted to buy this figure when you talked about this detail; but now that I’m aware of how badly it functions as a toy, I’m not going to waste my money. I get that it looks nice, but I just prefer toys over display pieces
Too bad the skateboard didn't come with any pegs and that the figure doesn't come with a stand (even though others have mentioned that NECA sells stands separetely).
Well, that sucks. I have 2 NECA Jason Vorhees (Well, one Jason and one Roy Burns) and they stand well, pose well, and are overall good. No one way elastic bands, either. They have a lot more meat on them than Stripe, though. At least he looks really good!
NECA doesn't make figures that are fun to pose. I have bought only about 3 NECA figures in the past and 2 of them broke within days of purchase. Thats why I dont collect them. No surprise here.
Its a running issue with NECA, to be honest. The details and paint apps are great but some figure mold decisisons are questionable and quality control issues abound. I received a Pacific Rim Crimson Typhoon figure as a gift and out of the packaging its lower torso is assembled backwards. I had to carefully disassemble it to fix it.
While I have enjoyed having more content I would advise you not to push yourself too hard and get burned out. Personally I would rather see the quality of content you guys have been doing than an increase in quantity. Thank you for the videos you do.

Maybe you should stick to your retro figures; theyre more your speed. The packaging is collector friendly. I have this figure among other neca gremlins and i can say the figure most definitely goes back in plastic. Do you have the bands around it? No but thats besides the point. Neca appeals to a certain collector. The likeness being a big one. I havent had much of a problem standing mine. In fact hes on the skateboard holding chainsaw
You should probably look up reviews of products before you buy them. Neca doesn't care about the complaints of some guy on the internet. They have your 30 dollars. That's all they care about.
As a toy loving child of the 80's this video confuses me. Just compare it to the old toy you've kept there... it is an amazingly accurate figure (especially for $25)! You can't put it back in the box huh? BE that 80's kid again. Throw the box away. Pose that figure, those tight joints are GREAT for this. Mine will be sticking out of the tree on Christmas Day.

You really have to boil Neca figures in water to loosen the joints. I bought the Christopher Reeve Superman and the leg snapped off.

And remember, a little oil goes a long way. Try a little bit at a time on each joint. I usually use a toothpick to apply it and wipe off any excess with a paper towel. A $5 bottle of silicone oil will last you YEARS. The stuff will also work great on your other figures and toys.

Neca is hit & miss for me. They make great looking stuff but qc issues with brittleness and off balance issues can happen.

I don't suppose (if i put my tinfoil hat on for a moment) that it would be out of the realm of possibility that this company are hoping that collector's will buy two of these figures. Obviously one to open and one to keep boxed?!! No forget it. no one would be inclined to do anything like that. Just on a side note, I was pleasantly surprised this afternoon as in my home town there is a new toy shop. An actual toy shop!! What made it even better was that they had a whole section dedicated to Games Workshops Citadel miniatures. I used to be really into the hobby years ago and to see what's on offer now has me really enthused to take it up again. I see lot's and lot's of flocked grass and paint in my future!!! I love the Neca stuff but I have to say the joints on a lot of their figures are normally very stiff out of the box, just have to give them a warm water bath for about 10 minutes and that solves the stiffness issue. Also with certain figures of theirs unfortunately you do need figure stands which Neca sells in packs for $10 (go figure). I do wholeheartedly agree with you Michael on those stupid bands I really hate them, but as a modern collector I have noticed more and more companies are using them such as Hasbro for the transformers Siege line. I didn't ever think I would miss the twist ties but I find myself out buying them to replace those awful plastic bands when I need to put something back in their box.

I had the same problem with the Pacific Rim figures so I had to get the clear figure stands . That’s why the figures have peg holes.

Yeah, that's the thing with NECA figures, you just put them in some hot water for a bit & the joints should work. Also yeah you've got to spend a minute setting them up but these Gremlins are great. I've collected NECA for years & they're amazing figures for posing.

NECA; we need a Phoebe Cates figure please. love these quick videos. Your effort has not gone unnoticed. The could’ve engineered him to have bigger feet but I kinda appreciate the fact they didn’t to keep his proportions correct. They could’ve put pegs on the skateboard though. NECA does make some neat little figure stands that would help(assuming they are compatible with this figure)

Thank you for taking the toy out, I was tempted to buy this figure when you talked about this detail; but now that I’m aware of how badly it functions as a toy, I’m not going to waste my money.

I remember when my dad showed me gremlins, I was absolutely terrified after.
Too bad the skateboard didn't come with any pegs and that the figure doesn't come with a stand (even though others have mentioned that NECA sells stands separetely).
Well, that sucks. I have 2 NECA Jason Vorhees (Well, one Jason and one Roy Burns) and they stand well, pose well, and are overall good. No one way elastic bands, either. They have a lot more meat on them than Stripe, though.

NECA doesn't make figures that are fun to pose. I have bought only about 3 NECA figures in the past and 2 of them broke within days of purchase. Thats why I dont collect them. No surprise here.
Its a running issue with NECA, to be honest. The details and paint apps are great but some figure mold decisisons are questionable and quality control issues abound. I received a Pacific Rim Crimson Typhoon figure as a gift and out of the packaging its lower torso is assembled backwards. I had to carefully disassemble it to fix it.
While I have enjoyed having more content I would advise you not to push yourself too hard and get burned out. Personally I would rather see the quality of content you guys have been doing than an increase in quantity. Thank you for the videos you do.

Maybe you should stick to your retro figures; theyre more your speed. The packaging is collector friendly. I have this figure among other neca gremlins and i can say the figure most definitely goes back in plastic. Do you have the bands around it? No but thats besides the point. Neca appeals to a certain collector. The likeness being a big one. I havent had much of a problem standing mine. In fact hes on the skateboard holding chainsaw

You should probably look up reviews of products before you buy them. Neca doesn't care about the complaints of some guy on the internet. They have your 30 dollars. That's all they care about.
Shoulda never been an R rating. So the figure was a lesser one, the movie remains classic.
As a toy loving child of the 80's this video confuses me. Just compare it to the old toy you've kept there... it is an amazingly accurate figure (especially for $25)! You can't put it back in the box huh? BE that 80's kid again. Throw the box away. Pose that figure, those tight joints are GREAT for this. Mine will be sticking out of the tree on Christmas Day.
