DETAILS:
Troopers and Phoenix Fire crews responded to reports of a collision involving a pickup truck and an ADOT Incident Response Unit on southbound I-17 near Thomas Road around 6:00 AM.
Units arrived to find a female passenger trapped inside a pickup truck after the truck rear-ended an ADOT unit who was blocking the right lanes for a fatal vehicle vs pedestrian collision investigation that occurred south of Thomas.
Fire crews arrived and began working to extricate the trapped passenger.
Once cut from the vehicle, the woman was transported to a local hospital as an immediate trauma patient.
The ADOT worker was fortunately uninjured.
Expect southbound I-17 traffic delays as a result of the incident throughout the morning.
