- There's nothing fun about a long drive on California Highway 99, but if you'd like to experience it without the mayhem of traffic and insane drivers, kick back and enjoy this video of the drive from Modesto, through Merced, to Fresno.
MyDrivelapse.com and Takemytrip.com provide driving videos and stories to help you plan your trip. Check out hundreds of videos on my UA-cam channel. Subscribe if you like it! Dozens of new videos are on the way in the coming weeks.
I made this trip in June 2018. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).

Hi my friend, I live in Brazil. I am from Nova Friburgo, a mountain region of Rio de Janeiro, I love traveling with my family through my state and neighboring states. You can be sure here is a big fan of yours, hug, stay with God.
At the 12:09 mark there is a pine tree and palm tree in the center divider among the oleanders. That is the supposed to be the dividing point between Northern California and Southern California.
Thank you for reminding me of that! I had heard about this spot a long time ago, but had forgotten about it.
I’ve driven down south from Modesto a few times and never known that. Thanks for the cool fact
12:08 Entering SOCAL
This used to be old US 99 WHEN I was a kid US 99 GO all the way to Canadian Border
Can't believe but I actually enjoyed watching it! Recognized everything on the way down.
Highway 99 is better than Highway 5 for me Because it's a lot of small towns and Gas stations that can you buy food for your trip along this Highway 😊
I was under the impression that this part of California would be high hills and deep valleies, being so close to Yosemite and all. So of course I'm a bit surprised at how flat it is 🤔🧐😄!
Thanks for the eye-opening video, it is very informative! 😁 (& a lot of fun)!
That’s on the hwy 41
Crazy that there used to be a stoplight on the 99! Good ole Livingston, CA
I moved far far away from home and this helped with my homesickness.
I like this highway because it's a lot of stops and little towns that you can eat or used bathrooms from your trip😊
@@Yanbrymenocu Denny’s in Merced is known for its above the bar service. Sure miss it
@@malaquiasalfaro81 yeah but this highway is Declared as Dangerous Highway in California Because some parts of highway 99 are just 2 lanes but last couple of months I go to fresno they start to wide the highway 99 I believe the only part of highway 99 which still have 2 lanes is part of Merced.
Thank You
Wish that CA-99 will become future interstate 7, since there is no more CA-7 from Calexico at the Mexican border to I-8. Now it is Imperial County Route S32. I-7 should be even 300 miles in length from I-5 in Wheeler Ridge (about 25 miles of Bakersfield) to I-80 in Downtown Sacramento, and they are adding 128 more miles of I-7 from Downtown Sacramento to rejoin at I-5 in Red Bluff for a total of 428 miles. There will be another single digit interstate highway and it is future interstate 9, in Eastern Washington from I-82 in Kennewick to I-90 in Ritzville for about 100 miles. I-9 will also be proposal interstate going across Central Oregon, since there is no Oregon State Route 9 anywhere in the state, so I-9 will running concurrently with US-97 as well as Northern California at I-5 in Weeds. NOTE: Both I-7 and I-9 will between I-5 and future I-11. I-9 will serve 3 states and they are: California, Oregon, and Washington. Future I-11 will serve in 4 states and they are: Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, and Idaho and each of them are the fastest growing states, even 40 years from now.
Modesto, Merced, and Fresno California.
You drove from Modesto all the way to Fresno to go to the Walmart near Herndon and Ingram?! Hope you found great deals. The Walmart on Clovis and Herndon avenue is nicer. :)
I think Walmart at King Canyon.
