One of the saddest things was the singer of Eye of the Tiger losing his voice right after that amazing success. Too bad that there wasn’t no UA-cam around in 94 to let the world know that his voice and beret were back and in great shape.
Let me clarify this video. It’s my take. I grew up south Wisconsin near the border of Wisconsin and Illinois. I was 18 when the drinking age in Wisconsin was legal. Illinois was not so right across the border in Wisconsin were a number of bars that popped up that could have rock shows One of them was Hooker Lake Inn (a Barn) which I saw Van Halen and the other was on the border, just north of waukegan in a nightclub short-lived called the Night Gallery, it opened after the bars closed in Wisconsin at 2 am. This is the video from that evening. Imagine having all the success that David gave to the first albums and having songs already written for the upcoming vital signs completed by Jim Peterik and Frankie, then to all of a sudden have a throat injury that ends your singing career knowing the next album was going to be such a success, but they had to let him go. There was no choice. To their fortune and the wise work of a friend to introduce Jimi to the band who took the songs and made them his own. But on that night, the new songs were sung. You are witnessing what David had, enjoy. This is a treasure. I saw survivor so many times in bars in the north Chicago bars and all over Wisconsin you have no idea how great they were their first album really was my favorite to this day. Just listen to Nothing can shake me (from your love).
I had tickets to see them finally in London in September 2014 about two weeks after Jimi sadly passed away, I don't suppose I'll ever get the chance again.

I saw these guys a bunch of time during the 90's when Bickler rejoined the group. Love the new songs like Feel the Memories and Fire Makes Steel which is even better than Eye of the Tiger in my opinion. Love the keyboard solo intro to The Search is Over.
O legal disso tudo é eles mandando "Fire Makes Steel", na voz de Bickler. Demo gravada com ele originalmente, em 1993. Curiosidade: a faixa faz parte e abre o "Reach", de 2006, com o Jimi Jamison nos vocais. Foda!
Dave Bickler does sing well, but he never sings like the beautiful Jimi, Jimi had the voice of a dream, it is a pleasure to hear his voice in every song that he gave life to, and I think that all the songs he recorded have the seal of his voice forever!
This was the same year that I met Dave. I met Jimmy Peterik a year later. To this day (on spot!) they'll remember me and say hi! Frankie was always an (ahem) a not so pleasant person. Jimi Jameson was great too and is truly missed. There was a lawsuit about the name Survivor. Jimmy washed his hands of the whole affair. If you see that his first band, The Ides of March are playing somewhere, GO! They do all the Survivor, 38 Special, and Ides songs that he wrote.
What's the first song called? Absolutely love that one! My God, the singer's unique yet powerful RnB soulful rock voice mix is tremendous. His ear for pitch is fantastic too. 🎙🎶 👏 ❤❤❤
Shit, Dave sounds surprisingly great with Jimi’s songs. Never saw this footage before. This is the exact progression of what would have been had Dave never left. For some reason I feel the song material from Peterik and Sullivan would have been the same if Jimi never came along. And Dave has better vocal stamina than Jimi. Problem is Dave is a lot stiffer than Jimi on stage. I still love em both.
I hate to say this but after hearing Dave singing Jimi's songs, I will Never go back to the original Jamison versions. He was great vocalist, but too glam for Survivor!
When l go to a survivor concert. I go to see Jimi jamison period. He is survivor. He may not of started it but to me he sure ended it. He had the most popular songs and he was surely the hottest singer. I don't care what nobody else has to say it's Jimi jamison hands down. Great that you enjoy Jamison. Some people preferred the pop and rock ballad driven music they did during his time with the band during mid 80s America. 😊 But he's not everyone's cup of tea as a singer or musician. You need to respect that. Survivor consisted of 3 original members who came together on the same day - Peterik, Bickler and Sullivan. The band already had made themselves a name worldwide and picked up a Grammy before Jamison joined them. People who don't listen to rock brought the Eye of the Tiger album and single especially because of the catchy intro, and Bickler's powerful soulful rock vocals. A tiktok style video on UA-cam, of Bickler's isolated vocals has drummed up 1.8 millions views and 87,000 likes in 2 weeks so far, mainly from non survivor fans. 82 was my era. Survivor went global then. Can't change that history.
He didn't have the most popular songs in the UK (none of his songs charted, only Burning Heart reached the top 10 but dropped off the charts pretty quick sadly) let alone the world but certainly made an impact in the mid 80s billboard charts. Eye of the Tiger was the most popular and still is by a long long shot. Many famous singers like Gloria Gaynor covered it. You need to be honest.
I liked Jimi’s voice better in the studio and I thought he was a better showman, but as he had a lower voice than Dave Bickler he had to used mixed voice to hit the same notes which meant that when his mixed voice wore out he didn’t have the chest range to handle the range like Dave did. Which is why he was less consistent than Dave live. Notice that Dave sings a lot louder than Jimi, cause Dave is just belting the whole time (also why he’s harder to understand).
I can't deny !.....you are right....also Jamison had a better prononciation right from the get go......but yes his style of singing helps him to do that.
Dave bickler has a higher range Cuz he is really a Tenor.. While Jimi Is a baritone that can sing high but not really in Dave category ...although Jimi has a rich Quality voice compare to Dave..
jb248, do you mean Dave Bickler had voice problems again? He sounds great here but I know he had voice problems in the 80s. Then again there's no evidence that they actually toured with Dave Bickler in the 80s. You would think there would be a bootleg or something floating around.
Seeing Dave live always feels uncomfortable... I liked Jimi's presence far better. Like their live-sound though... it's got the edge I usually miss on their studio albums
Agreed, Herman. I like their harder live sound, as well. Dave's a little tough to watch at times, but he sounds good here. Poor Jim, hidden behind the keyboard for virtually the entire show. Frankie's great, but he noodles too much on the guitar. Does every song need an extended solo at the end?
Wow thanks for uploading, brings back some memories! That must have been the darkest time of Survivor. I saw them in Frankfurt Germany about the same time and it wasn't good. The band was bored, so was the audience. It was very loud, guitar was over processed and dominant, while playing very sloppy. Bickler didn't hit a lot of tunes, it was embarassing at times. I could go on and on but as a big Survivor fan (still) it was very disappointing. This video brings back some of it, but my memory is even worse... Think Peterik left soon after that tour, I don't blame him.
Ballad songs suits Jimi Jamison, that's why maybe Survivor songs in the late 80s became more ballad to suit the singer's style. Dave on the other hand is more on rock and lively songs.
Jimi Jamison's voice was phenomenal no matter how you cut the deck, it was strong , powerful, I liked when Dave did eye of the tiger way back in His young days, at that time His voice was strong and could belt those notes out. After He suffered from those throat nodules, it changed the range that He was able to sing in. He can sing, but has to be in a different key/ range.
To those of you who think Frankie Sullivan is some kind of rat bastard....go back to your little corner and sit while this icon plays for the people who appreciate him. He is fantastic.
I like jimi's style and voice, also the songs in his era, but it seems that dave can manage a full show while jimi is getting after few songs. overall, jimi is better for me. but this is not a contest, they are both great.
They are both good vocalists, and their voices are similar, almost indistinguishable in the songs. Personally, I love them both! Each of them made a considerable contribution to SURVIVOR. Without both of them, there would be nothing in the group . 👍👍👍👍👍. JIMI - ✝️🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🍷 , DAVE - 🎙️🍷🇺🇦 .
Рыззе Bickler is also 40 here and post vocal surgery. 10 years earlier he would have sang them better than Jimi did, or at least the notes would have been easier to hit. Also Jimi wasn’t a baritone, he was just a lower tenor, similar to how Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti were both tenors but Luciano clearly had the higher voice. Yes placido is a baritone now but when he was young he was a low tenor.
Singer? I don’t think so. Showman? I’ll give him that. He had a greater command of the stage than Bickler yeah but Bickler had a better rate of consistency with his voice than Jimi. Not taking away too much from Jimi but long term singing, Jimi gets tired a lot quicker than Dave. What sucks is vocal polyps got to Dave and not Jimi. Still, RIP Jimi.
@@alonzotanner1226 Jimi had a great ! voice . But problem was he was not a tenor . He sounded good when he wasn't going for the high notes . It really wasn't fatigue as much as some of the notes were out of his range .
@@cbl462 I agree, put Michael jackson, steve Perry and dave Bickler in one category. I love jimi jamison as a singer and also love Kermit the frog and his girlfriend miss piggy as singers. Jimi should have sung with them in muppet show, I would definitely watch it! Love them all!

31:00 The Search Is Over
jimi jamison is best than beckler.?
+benjie enimedo I disagree
I love both...
JIMI JAMISON FOREVER ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Drummer looks like Barton Cameron's brother
Definitely not the voice of Jimi
eu queria ver dave ao vivo em 1996 97 99 2000
Eu tbm estou doido para velo esses Anos!
Eu tbm estou doido para velo esses Anos!
bad sound
The Bickler's high notes in JJ era songs are awful. BTW Jimi was a baritone.
Хм, все таки их не так уж и мало
Jimi was a tenor when he was young, but he changed to a baritone after he aged 50+
jimi was better singer and showman
I have known Dave Bickler for DAMN near 40 years. Best singer ever
@@alonzotanner1226 But Jimi's voice was a lot more powerful, and Bickler was the one who got voice problems.
