Actors Painful Prosthetics & Costumes In The Hunger Games

- While we often focus on the intense and tough journeys the characters face in The Hunger Games, today we’re taking a look behind the scenes to see just how much the cast struggles through their costumes, makeup and prosthetics. Elizabeth Banks faced tons of struggles with her wild accessories and avant-garde clothing. The actress was often weighed down with heavy material or stuck inside tight clothing that made moving very difficult. When the actress was wearing the gorgeous Butterfly dress, she actually had a few people on set who were assigned to help her go to the bathroom when she needed to! On her feet, Banks was wearing “Fang Shoes” by a famous shoe designer - these heels are just as uncomfortable to wear as they sound! Filming the Capital scenes was tough for both the actors performing - including hundreds of extras, and of course the makeup hair and costume teams who all had to bring the magic to life. These crew members were often on their feet for hours at a time and all before shooting. As for the actors, thick layers of prosthetics and glue all over their bodies to attach them was not an ideal situation.
The first time Eugenie Bondurant had her make-up done as Tigris, the process took a whopping six hours! Wetsuits caused a few issues for Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson - Lawrence got so itchy at one point that she knocked over a giant sacred stone trying to find some relief! Hutcherson struggles with the heat of Hawaii in a wetsuit while filming such intense scenes. We’ve got the scoop on all this and more!

Hunger Games still remain my favorite series and I really hope they releases more movies. I really wanna see how Haymitch won his game. And also Finnick and Johanna's games.

The newest book, "the ballad of songbirds and snakes" is really good. I believe that they've already started production and it should be released in 2023-2024.

They never spoke about Effie's wardrobe for the Capitol Party in "Catching Fire". In an interview she said it was so hard to move that crew members literally had to keep carrying her around until it was time to shoot the scene. Effie may not have appreciated the jumpsuit look of District 13 but I'm sure Elizabeth did. In any case I'm sure looking back it was an honor for all of the actors to wear these incomparable designs
I’m most sympathetic to Elizabeth Banks. The outfits while fitting of the character looked incredibly uncomfortable and awkward. She pulled it all off though. So my hats off to the actress for that. She made the style work.

Wow, I had no idea they went in that hard with costumes and makeup for the Capitol citizens.. 400 extras all with special makeup, wigs and costumes? That’s insanely impressive and makes me appreciate that makeup team so much. That had to have grueling to be doing that on your feet for 9 hours each day.

Hair Trouble Arc: Have these people never heard of wigs and weaves?? They didn't necessarily have to chemically alter her natural to the point she needed it cut off.
Right! Like even inexpensive synthetic wigs can be altered enough to make it look real. Sadly not a common skill in the beauty industry.
they said in the video they rented 30 000 dollars worth of wigs for katniss, but ended up not using them? (except for the last movie) I wonder why they didn't use them

@@helleswahn Well, having just watched part of the first movie and part of the last movie back-to-back, I can tell you her hair in the last movie looks pretty terrible - very dull and frizzy. Whereas in the first movie it looks great. Apparently even $30000 wigs don't look that great. Same issue has happened in other movies, and fans certainly noticed how much worse the wigs look.
It is rather weird to me though - surely for $30,000 one can buy a wig made of actual human hair, and if one washes & styles it carefully it should look pretty good, right? Or is the problem that they can't use their usual washing & heat treatments on it 'cause it'd cause too much damage? I would've expected it to at least last for the filming of one movie, given our real hair is about that old...
@@Vousie literally. Cosplayers make wigs look amazing and most usually use cheaper ones, big productions like this has no excuse
I never understood how they manage to ruin actors hair when there are so many dyes that don't damage hair or high quality wigs. It's almost like some movies try to ruin their actors hair so they can make sure they're committed or something
THIS 100% THIS. Like there is NO WAY her hair should've been falling off when it comes to BROWN hair dye. We're not bleaching the hair every time we dye it brown. And if her roots needed a touch up they should ONLY be doing the roots. There is NO REASON for her hair to be falling out.
I guess a logical explanation is the fact that they have to continually and consistently dye it so it looks more like a natural brown colored hair. Otherwise Jennifer's blonde roots would show up or the pigment would fall out quickly with showers and during the shooting of scenes with a lot of humidity and water (which is the majority of the movies lol).

Damm imagine how much process it was especially outfits, hair, makeup I bet it was torture. Imagine how much full body makeup it took for Jennifer Lawrence to undergo when she played mystique in x-men

It be cool to make a hunger games series with their kids, maybe the plot story can be katniss and peetas kids that are a little older join up with finnicks son and accidentally stumble upon a discovery that....primrose never died? Dun dun dun, like maybe someone saved her in time from that explosion but only to use her for a plan to somehow bring back the hunger games and the kids somehow save primrose along with peeta and katniss, and effie and haymitch can be the aunt and uncle lol just some thoughts.

Yea totally. I’m so happy Suzanne didn’t make a fourth book and instead did a prequel, because if she did then when a movie eventually came out it wouldn’t have the original cast with Jennifer Lawrence and stuff since they would’ve grown up to much.

Actually Elizabeth Banks' clothing was NOT custom made! They came from 2011 and 2012 fashion shows and she fit the conventional size for the clothing. She said so herself about fitting into the sample sizes

They don’t hurt, it’s just not as comfortable as not having them. It can hurt when you remove them though if you didn’t shave first bc they stick and will rip out all your baby hairs.

Making movies isn’t as glamorous as it seems! I’ve worked on a handful and it’s often exhausting, annoying, too cold or too hot, dusty or foggy or wet, just generally a lot of stress and discomfort. Just to tell a story.

Well that wouldn’t make sense bc Snow and Coin are dead. And Coin wanted to have another hunger games anyways but then Katniss shot her. Also I think the way Katniss and Peeta’s story ended was perfect. It was poetic in a way .
