- Traveling with pets might seem stressful, but in reality it might be actually better experience than traveling with humans :)
How to travel with your cat?
Before traveling
1. Before booking your flight, check the airlines website to make sure they allow traveling with pets. Check their requirements for booking a pet for the flight.
I usually travel with Ryanair, but they have no-pets policy. So I decided to travel with Austrian Airlines. They allow you to bring your small pet on board.
2. After booking the flight, make sure to also reserve space for your pet.
Austrian Airlines have dedicated online form available after you book your flight. Fill out the form and they contact you back via email with a confirmation that your pet can be on board. They also send some additional forms to be filled about the animal. You should bring these at the airport, but noone checked them there for us.
3. Bring your pet's passport, check if they have required vaccinations or ifadditional paperwork is needed. This depends on the Airline + the country you are traveling to.
Make sure your pet carrier is suitable for plane cabin.
At the airport
4. Bring your pet to the check-in counter. The staff will register it and ask you to sign some paperwork. Sometimes you might pay some fee for the pet. However we didn't get charged.
5. Go through security check in. Notify the staff that you have animal. They will give you instruction on how to proceed through the security.
I put my cabin bag, toiletries, notebook and other items in the tray and run it on the belt through the scanner. Meanwhile I passed the "people" scanner while holding Oli in his carrier. After that I collected my other items and I was escorted to a special room. There they checked Oli, took his carrier, run it trough the scanner and brought it bag.
It was all quite easy, fast and the staff is very helpful.
6. Before the flight try to find a space where your cat can be out of their carrier, drink water, eat but most importantly go on toilet.
I had travel cat toilet with gravel (gravel is OK to bring). Oli was too stressed out to do any serious peesiness or poopsness :D. It is good idea to have a dog potty-training pad in the carrier, just in case any accidents happen.
In the plane
7. You will have to place the carrier under the seat during the flight.
I was very lucky - I had my entire row to myself and there were not many passengers around either. The stewardess was extremely nice and she allowed me to have the carrier next to me after the take-off and before landing. I could also bring Oli out of the carrier. Before I did that we asked everyone around if they have allergies for cats or if they would mind. Noone did so Oli spent short time on my lap.
Back on ground
8. After you land, take your cat for another poop/pee session + try to give them some food. If possible go straight home, so the cats can stretch and rest a bit :)
Bon voyage! 🤗🐈

Traveled with my kitty and everyone was so nice to me. It was wonderful. 🎈
Yes, people are so much nicer when you travel with your pets! :D
@@Graytails hello 🙂, is it safe for cat travel on cabin ..right ?
What to do if cat wants to go to toilet during flight ?
It can breathe in high altitudes …?
@@Antonio-uc7vn Hello Antonio! Yes, it is safe for them to travel in cabin :) Toilet can be tricky. I try to have them use the toilet before the flight so they do not need to go on toilet during the flight. If they really need to pee/poop I have training pads (for dogs) on the bottom of the carrier. They can pee on it and then I throw it out immediately.
@@Graytails yes , thank you for your reply .🙏😇
I wanna ask a question,
I am planning to buy a kitten , a male kitten actually ,
I have been hearing about it in online about un-neutered cats , they don’t behave well , they go outside , and be aggressive with owners etc etc ,
Well I consider neutering cats unethical ,
We don’t wanna do that, never ,
If we take care male kittens when they are kitten , leash train them or bond with them etc , will they behave well ? Don’t be aggressive ?..when they grow up .
Can you suggest something which would help?..🙂
Well if I change my plan and buy a female kitten ,
And un-spayed off course .
Still have been hearing about somethings ..if we don’t bred them .
Can you help me out with this 🙏😃.
A very well behaved kitty.
Very intelligent cat like all cats . Omg. You are very lucky 😊
I love his grey snoot 🥰😭 lol
Thank you so much for this video! I will be moving to Europe and I'm going with my two cats. Your video helped me to visualize what will suppose to happen and minimized my anxiety 😅❤
I can only imagine how confusing the new smells are when travelling pets disembark in a different country 😭 lol
SO well behaved!! wow.
very nice video. it also illustrates something that I think is helpful when flying with cats. That is, if possible, try your best to find the least full flight, with most empty seats and fly low season! you will have a much less stressful experience
Thank you ❤️
Could you please link your travel bag? Lovely video!
Hello Gunta! I bought the bag in a local pet store and I cannot find it online. My sister has been using this bag www.zooplus.dk/shop/kat/kattetransport/baeretaske/transporttaske/751195 for her two cats and I am going to change to this one soon, because Oli grew so much! :)
he or she looks just like my dear departed Grayling!!!
I'm so sorry to hear that. It must be really touching to see someone who reminds you of Grayling. If you ever want to share stories or memories about Grayling, I'm here to listen
Hey Gray Tails.
Thanks for this awesome video. It is helping us to prepare to our next travel and release some of our anxiety.
We are travelling for the first time with our cat and we also live in Denmark - Copenhagen.
Our cat has a passport like yours with vacation against rabies up to date. Does he need anything more than that on his pass? I heard something about worms vaccination? We are travelling Portugal (both Eu countries and direct flight).
Thank you so much for your help.
Where did you buy pet carrier?
Thanks for sharing. Very informative video.
Thank you!!!
WOW! Very cool! Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
what about litter box ? i will be having a very long flight
should i take sand and box with me on the cabin ? the whole litter box idea makes me anxious :(
Cute ❤😘😘
Thank you ❤️
Don’t give cats cream they are lactose intolerant
Did u buy the ticket?? What was the cost?? How is your cat so calm? U gave any calming treats??
Hello! :)
I bought flight ticket and then paid around 65EUR extra for the cat at the airport during the check-in. I have a different video where I show how it works when you have to pay during check in. He did not have any calming treats or pills, he is used to traveling and flying. In total he has been on 5 flights and more are coming.
Please would you tell me how many hours was your flight?
It was only 1.5hours
pretty! And a smart and clever cat! nice video thank you
7:01 why is belly moving so fast
Is your cat ginormous or it’s just the camera angle?
Do you do not use bathroom in plane for your cat
Hello!
We only travel on short flights within Europe so it as never needed to use the bathroom on plane
Your baby looks a lot like my baby. We will soon be moving from Austria to Thailand. May I ask you a question? When you checked your cat in at the counter. Did they ask to weight your cat? My cat is quite big, probably a bit more than 8 kg with the carrier. I'm trying to control his weight now. Hopefully he will lose some of his weight. Are the Austrian airlines very strict about weight?
Hello ❤️ yes they did weight them. They basically ask you to put the carrier with the cat in it on the belt where you put your check in baggage.
It really depends on the person who is working behind the chcek in desk. Some of them are more strict than others. So maybe try to find someone who looks kind 😃❤️🤗
I wish you all the best luck during your trip
Hi! Thanks for the great video! On the Austrian Airlines website it says the carrier can be no more than max. 118 cm (55 × 40 × 23 cm). Do you know if it would be okay if the carrier I have for my cat would work if it squishes down to 23 cm tall but measures at 33 when not pressed down? Thanks!
Same question!
Please respond im traveling tomorrow- did you use medication on your cat or is your cat super calm?
Hello! No medication he is just that calm :)
