"They" has been a singular for centuries and you use it as such all the time without thinking about it. "Some person from the observatory left their telescope out so we could all look at the meteor. That was really nice of them." "Hey, we're missing someone in this meeting. Anyone know who it is or where they are?" It could also be used in relation to Alex being something OTHER. The main character obviously has enough respect for Alex not to call them 'it' but what do you call something that isn't human and could very well not have gender? 'it' is dehumanizing, so instead of saying, "it was my friend" you might choose, "they were my friend". Or, maybe Alex chooses to be non-binary.
Because grammar is not Woke Stuff. 'They' has been singular for centuries and you use 'they' singularly all the time without realizing it. "Did someone leave their tools here? Are they coming back for them?" Alternately, I took it as a more humanizing variation of 'it' to refer to something/someone that isn't normal or is something OTHER. Where you would say, "look at that dog, I wonder what breed IT is", using "it" for a human is dehumanizing. "Alex is my friend. I wonder what type of monster it is," sounds very rude for someone you'd call a friend, ergo, "I wonder what type of monster they are."

Heaven forbid they have to use their imagination for a brief moment. Even crazier. I’m listening to this as I type. It’s literally not an issue. Such a reliance on knowing what’s in someone’s pants. As if it makes the story any different. That you’re making it weird. But what’s weird is that you have a fit being thrown in the comments because you didn’t use he/she. When those words. Wouldn’t change the story at all. I weirdly prefer the they them for this story. Because imagine if it was he or she. And you heard it used over and over and over and over and over. For comprehension I prefer the they/them. You’re dealing with people that peaked in highschool and that’s why they are all struggling to deal with this. They barely passed English, and then didn’t bother ever learning a thing again.
Yeah. You totally SHOULD cater to the "modern audience". Worked great for Concord and all the other woke garbage right? When this channel tanks over it don't act surprised. Noone wants this goofy crap injected into their media.
Pretending a singular person is NORMALLY referred to in a plural form is dumb. It's unnatural and forced and those of us who are sick to death of you freaks shoving it in our faces always end up leaving this garbage to fail. Channel creator might want to think hard about "go woke go broke". Personally already unsubscribed. 😅
@@taylorfain6957 also remember others called Alex by gender. Only the main character subconsciously sensed they weren't human. Alex doesn't follow gender roles because Alex is an entity. Alex doesn't abide by human natural law. There was mega foreshadowing by using gender neutral terms and these idiots forgot their english lessons.

Referring to a singular person as a they is whack. 😅
Drop the pronoun bs its ridiculous, irrelevant, and takes A LOT from the story. It ruins it.

Dude, I am a long time fan of yours. You're my fav Tbh. However this they/them bs is just confusing. I don't even care about politically correct aspect of it. It is just confusing and not exact.
Some people say it is the correct use of English, it might be and is using he/she. But confusing and not exact is where this is at.
Is Alex more than one person?
Whos they?
No. Who was phone.
Bro, you can say, "he" or "she". You're making this weird.

Ugh... The awkward "they/them" pronoun nonsense really took me out of it. I am out.
Same unfortunately
Same here...and I hate that it did
It's really not that awkward, I used it for the singular ages before this stuff became the norm, especially when talking about a person or animal I didn't know the sex of. I just don't get why people are so taken aback by a word that's always been there.
@@NaturesTemperI can't speak for others but for me in this circumstance it was jarringly noticeable because of the grammatical confusion it caused in usage with a discussion and narrative involving 3 people all at once.
I listen as I work and such a thing becomes hard to determine who is talking about what etc.
Just bad luck in that regard and when working I don't need to work harder with my more casual pursuit. You're still a favourite of mine and will just jump to the next story.
Much love.
@@NaturesTemperit’s embarrassing that you’re sticking up for something you didn’t write and something that MANY PEOPLE have an issue with. Pronouns pal!
Always loved your videos, and I've used them to get to sleep as well... But what is this? Does Alex have two heads? A Siamese twin? What's this their stuff? It's so discordant that it ruins the whole thing completely; it doesn't flow at all. It's like trying to drive a racing car down a street littered with speed bumps... Just... Ooof...
"They" has been a singular for centuries and you use it as such all the time without thinking about it.
"Some person from the observatory left their telescope out so we could all look at the meteor. That was really nice of them."
"Hey, we're missing someone in this meeting. Anyone know who it is or where they are?"
It could also be used in relation to Alex being something OTHER.
Alex wasn’t human
@@JRMAV1 then you use it and its, if that's the case.
Can't even enjoy our stories anymore without the Woke stuff destroying it.... why????😢😢
Because grammar is not Woke Stuff. 'They' has been singular for centuries and you use 'they' singularly all the time without realizing it.
"Did someone leave their tools here? Are they coming back for them?"
Alternately, I took it as a more humanizing variation of 'it' to refer to something/someone that isn't normal or is something OTHER. Where you would say, "look at that dog, I wonder what breed IT is", using "it" for a human is dehumanizing. "Alex is my friend. I wonder what type of monster it is," sounds very rude for someone you'd call a friend, ergo, "I wonder what type of monster they are."
