Funny how since season 4 started, everyone is an expert on animation, CGI, composition, colors, etc...

My point is that they don't need to know what cgi stands for to have an opinion on whether it looks good or not.
I don't need to know what bloom, SSAO, Ambient Occlusion, Refresh Rate, Anti-Aliasing, VSync, Tessellation, Anisotropic Filtering, HDR, etc... is to judge whether a game looks good or not.
In that case, no one would be able to say "Mappa's CGI looks good" because Mappa uses a lot of these features that people are ignorant about.
@@FukurouYGR Except most people's opinion is simply stating "MAPPA is garbage. Music sucks, directing sucks, animations and colorization sucks." If you noticed, all of these are statements perceiving as facts. Not opinions. Then most people go in depth about a bunch of bullshit that doesn't make sense. Very few vids on UA-cam actually go in-depth with actual knowledge of the subjects. Regardless; they ignore the positive qualities behind their animations.
It's okay to dislike it, although you can't say it entirely sucks. Especially considering the circumstances they were left with.
Watching these type of videos makes me realize how much effort is put into every frame of the anime 🙌 Salute to the animators

Those are very nice storyboards. Comparing this to the Cruel Angel’s Thesis storyboard really is something. I’m not saying that storyboard was unusable but was much more optimised for speed.
NGL, we have to praise mappa's staff for making all of these possible in less than a year.
Man, I spent 10 long years and the series is finally finished. I came across this video showing the production process. It's incredible. It's been almost a week since it ended, and I still have that feeling of emptiness and depression deep down in my bones.

@@veirdi3879 Yea i still enjoy AoT after studio changes, not the same aura but every studio has their own artstyle..the CGI is pretty good but some part it looks off like beast titan movement and ODM gear scene in eps 7
i dont know it just looked way better in the other seasons, maybe the lines were thicker i really dont know.

I love the bit where the beast titan rips a titan in half in 2d, seems more elastic than in its finished form
I believe the beast titan in that fights was meant to be 2d but they changed it last minute. Probably because it wouldn't have made it in time considering the coloring and detailing they would have had to do.

Wit took the same amount of time to animate AOT S1. Compare MAPPA S4 with hundreds of employees vs Wit S1 with a dozen or so employees. Exactly.
@@geniuz4093 Someone forgot that Covid-19 exist.(S4 production was during the pandemic). Not to mention, S1 was outsourced by I.G. Studios. All the clouds in WIT's AoT is outsourced as well.. Sure, WIT is great but let's not make WIT looks like the best studio in the world.
These storyboards are intensely detailed for sure. S4 part 1 definitely was rough in animation, but these boards delivered

I don't know what kinds of morons are saying those shots are bad but I do know those are also not CGI shots.

The drawings are incredible, it’s just the coloring and motion that falls short honestly
I'm not an expert so i'm not even sure of which terms to use, but it feels like the original drawings just had so much details, its astonishing and really beautiful. But it feels like the animated scenes really lacked colors and contrast... At first I thought they just did not have time to make good drawings and all, but now that I see the original drawings, I really wished they did a better job with the colors, it could've been really beautiful. Still I hope part 2 is gonna look good, considering the colossal amount (no pun intended) of action and fights they're gonna have to animate. Thanks MAPPA animators, for sticking with this masterpiece till the end with your hard work !
Same here, but it seems it's like that for most productions, the gengas are super detailled and stuff and the end product is less detailed,like black clover for some scenes. As long as the scene stays the szme i guess it's okay
MAPPA didn’t have enough time to make season 4 perfect, but honestly if part 2 gets delayed so that it gets made into the perfect series, then i’ll be happy to wait.

@@FukurouYGR well, of course after the corrections and all, but to me black clover's a good example. Atleast imo. When i see the gengas i think that often times even though they are corrected later, they kind of look better than the finished animation. I think it's the rough aspect that i might be liking better.

These drawings are incredible. WOW.
The only animation I had an issue with was the Jacket scene. For some its just a jacket scnee. But for the story, that scene marked a huge turning point for the series and for Eren as a character. The trailer cut looked more epic.
@@lorenzorizzi864 there is no such thing as “valid” when it comes to opinions regarding artwork. When it comes to the sense of sight, everyone has a different view on whats appealing and what isn’t, so its wrong to say someones opinion on images are not “valid”. The reason why people (not Westerners, fans in general) dislike the seasons animation is nostalgia and preference. What made attack on titan special and unique from other anime is WITs direction, color scheme, animation style and use of bold outlines around character models. Their ability to use still frames to add intensity into scenes. The use of “still frames” is extremely rare in anime, and WIT mastered the use and made it iconic. We were used to seeing that for 8 years. When you take that away and change it up, its only natural for some people to put the old style of animation on a pedestal over the most recent style.
people really overestimate that scene, but I guess Isayama trying so hard to make Eren look cool works for most of the fandom

The 2D Attack Titan is my favourite design in the entire show. Reiner’s cgi Armoured Titan also looked great in episode 1.

though the color palette did change, the bigger part in the wit coloring overall was a filter that added a different type of feeling to the show

I don't think it has much to do with the colors, but WIT had make up artists to touch up the finer details. I'm not sure if it applied to background areas, tho. I know they did it for their characters, though.

Yeah, you are so true!! Its just that WIT Sudio just raised and set the bar was to high and Mappa couldn't have surpass that. But to me I still really enjoyed the Aot Season 4. And I would even go to say that it has become one of my favourite seasons. Probably my favourite or second favourite!! I also think that Mappa just didn't have the right staff to make this season on par with the previous seasons. Like Wit Studio had many well known and really talented people in the industry as the staff of making Attack On Titan Season 1, 2, 3, and Part 2 of season 3. And an example of a very talented and well known person in the industry that was one of the people working to make this anime is Arifumi Imai. That guy single handedely carried the best looking scenes in those seasons. Like Kenny vs Levi, and Levi vs Beast Titan. He made those scenes along with someone who also is really talented. I just forgot their name. But Mappa didn't have that kind of manpower of a really talented staff. Mappa just gave some people the job to do aot season 4. But Wit Studio assembled a team with Tetsurō Araki, which was the director of aot then. And he used his power to bring on really talented and good animators into the staff. But yeah. it is an interesting view you got there
I mean sure. they picked whoever was available (some were even still on other projects) but after I got a good look on the episodes from rewatches.. it (to me) feels more like a time/pandemic/stress/new-project problem.
considering the pretty on point storyboards by the directors and the contribution of some mythical gods like in ep 2/4/7/8/14/15 (that is the talent)
the varying levels of quality every episode (that is time)
and of course some very ok photography work (Pabdemic worsening communication with Dop which is the only person in the team I might see him "as unfit")
sure WIT team are gods among men but i cant help but feel that there are truly magnificent ppl in the new AOT team.
also Imais sakuga moments are time burns so I understand why they didn't plan any lengthy sakugas (they tried with the Levi fight and canceled the attempt for time but you probably knew that)
GOD! why didn't just say "Nah! i think it is due to the the schedule being hooooorrible"

There are some small differences, but please note that after the key animation (genga) there are any corrections from the animation director and the second key animation.

But HE worked for MAPPA on that scene, they can't just put credits of literally everyone
For everyone arguing in the comments. The reason people work hard to create something is so that:
A. People can consume and enjoy it.
B. So people can critique it so they can find something to get better at.
If all you do is get positive feedback 100% of the time, then your art is meaningless. Critique no matter how ignorant it comes across is more beneficial than people realize.

Everyone will say 'Mappa did an amazing job but' it will always end at 'but'. At the end of the day when people will binge watch the series the weak animation will always feel jarring down the line.
If you compare inuyashiki's cgi with Aot..Aot still wins

The Titan cgi is 90% there. It just needs one more 2D pass and it would look indistinguishable from 2D. I think it’s worth a remaster. Sometimes the 3D models move too perfectly where as hand drawn exaggerates depth or motion. Also the cgi lacks smears which can make it look less smooth. These are all very nitpicks and fixable things. I just hope after attack on Titan ends mappa remasters the show to be perfect. No hate to mappa

The drawings are really good but the colorings and lines aren’t good and smooth… some scenes are also different with the drawing like the jacket scene. I hope they do a better job for coloring in part 2

and honestly we gotta accept that it's a different studio, the colors and direction will obviously be different
People keep saying "better" but i think the "bad" coloring is completely intentional, so people should ask for a different coloring in part 2, which i think they won't do since after episode 10 they found their style and they're probably sticking with it to the end

the entire season only had 1 sakuga scene, and it was for the no-one-cares character lobov.... sad. At least episode 8 was flawless and literally everything and everyone moved so smoothly.

The problem it's not the colors, it's the photography that is inconsistent due to the short schedule
Episode 1 had better color choices, details, shadings also less outlines. Since ep 4 their shading style started look weird and plain (very minimum shading). They’re lacking shades and styles and plain weird that’s the problem of mappa people annoyed and not capturing manga panels
