i agree with you completely! my school literally has zero AP classes, and zero extracurriculars other than sports and JROTC. its super frustrating when i watch stats videos and everyone has a TON of extracurriculars and awards, and I'm secretly jealous because none of that was offered to me because of where I live!

Amazing stats! I was really hoping you'd say you went test optional so I'd feel better ahahah, but either way congrats!

Colleges look at you within the context of the country you're from, the high school you attended, socioeconomic background, etc. If you absolutely cannot take the exam, they'll understand that. However, high achievers apply to these schools and thus everything that is "optional" isn't really optional if you want to stand a chance. If you took any exams, it could hurt your odds not to show the colleges. Good luck!!

@@niyatsiyum4774 Hi Thank you for your reply. Yeah I absolutely can't take it as the only test centres near me are via flights and I just can't afford that. I am doing the IB Programme so I will be submitting those scores and my IGCSE scores so hopefully those make up for the lack of an SAT or ACT score!

@@rishi1789 if you have a good reason for not submitting scores then you should be okay.. unlike me who is stuck at a 30 act score that I pretty much have to submit to colleges bc if I don’t then I won’t get in.. for reference very few people that don’t submit test scores get in and if you don’t you typically need something else in place of it and a good reason for not taking it if you want to stand a chance of getting in….

wow!! you accomplished so much in highschool. as an upcoming freshman, i really look up to graduates like you who succeed in their academics and extracurriculars. good luck at upenn!
btw, could you possibly give some tips on how to find internships? and possilby some time management tips?

I've had a software development internship since my rising sophomore summer in HS. The best thing you can do is make genuine connections and display genuine interest in whatever field you desire. I'm a golf caddie, and have been offered internships pretty often by golfers that have learned about what I like! I think this same principle applies to adults you know personally or by extension-- don't be afraid to ask them! If they aren't able to provide an opportunity, a lot of time they'll help you in making a connection with the person or people who can get you an internship.
I always recommend setting up time to interview people in the industry that you may know (personally or by extension). And, please - be VERY cautious about what organization you choose to intern for. Ideally, someone is willing to take you under their wing on the job and help you out initially. You should always be prioritized by the business, not the other way around. Good luck!

I didn't know how to get internships in high school either -- there were not as many resources where I lived (or I was not given as much access). However, I've worked in nonprofit for over a decade now and if you can't get an official (hopefully paid) internship at a business, I recommend nonprofits because they often need extra help and are negotiable with title (calling you an intern instead of a volunteer). Plus, it looks good on a college application since it's helping the community. :)

You are very talented. Rejoice in your youth! There are many layoffs the older people are either dealing with or worried about. Be thankful you are in college shielded from that working world for now. For preparation, I'd recommend choosing a major that experienced recruiters would think is in demand even in a recession. You did great in HS preparing for college. Now, the next iteration is preparing for a job that is recession-proof. What majors of alumni at your college think would withstand a harsh recession? Layoffs can be deep. I know of a guy with a 1600/1600 on the SAT who studied computer engineering but graduated into the recession of 2009. I know another woman who also got a 1600/1600 on the SAT and was laid off at a company where she had worked as a business analyst. She had also scored highest on the MCAT at her medical school but withdrew around her 3rd year when clinical rotations started. I would think a major in one field of interest and a minor in another distinct field (both in demand) might increase the odds of avoiding the layoffs. That is one example. Another is to diversify to the extreme - a JD/PhD or engineering combined with a master's in management or master's in compliance engineering. There are unorthodox options.

OMG That's AMAZING!!! Your standardized test scores (SAT/ACT/AP) are SOGOOD :0 and your ECs are cool too! Best of luck at Penn! I'm applying ED there this year but my academics are a lot less impressive ;( but maybe a miracle would happen and I'll be there next fall! or maybe not :(

Congratulations on all of your hard work and accomplishments, and best of luck at Penn! Very strange that BU did not accept you, given your stats - I suppose it shows how strange the process can be. Do you feel that you put equal effort into your supplemental essays such as the "Why BU?" essay?

Sounds good to me I would have accepted you. I think schools like Stanford look for someone that's a standout achiever in a specific activity whether that be a sport like swimming or playing an instrument. It can feel somewhat unreasonable when you consider there are limited ways you can stand out at such a young age. What if you're just not into sports? Like how many people are realistically going to be a successful entrepreneur for example at the age of 17. Let's be real. But it is crazy to think those students actually exist. And if you're interested in art, there are not really awards for that.
