Cheers mate. The wiring was my main concern but if you can do the split relay and diesel heater this’ll pale in comparison mate. I’d use the sikaflex in the middle and just tape the edges 😂
@@ingosundowner7312 ahh nice. I’m gearing up for nc500 by 18th. Having the fuel tank looked at as there was some petrol coming out when I was filling up. Never ends eh
Gluing panel directly to the roof will lower it's performance. On hot sunny days, when you would expect biggest yield, panel will actually lose up to 15% (0.3-0.5% per degree over 25ºC and panels easily reach 50ºC, additionally each degree will munch bigger percentage than previous one) of output and simultaneously heat up van interior. Better way is to glue it first to aluminium plate and level up from the roof with some padding or other way. I measured difference (not very scientific way though) and it's staggering, especially when counting small layer of dust on panels, which creates compounding effect.
You’re absolutely right my first option was the raised one but wouldn’t fit due to the angle difference. When I opted for the flexible one I was going to put it on a plastic piece of board to let air flow below it as I wanted to be able to take the panel off should it fail. But as weather and patience weren’t playing ball I just opted for the quicker solution. It’s a 130w panel and the most Power I’ve had yet is 105 which tbh is fine for my needs as my complete setup uses max 55w at best. And that’s just if I’m charging my MacBook. If not it’s only 25-35w. But yet the other method would have been more beneficial and preferred.
@@RobnDob I actually remember that amazing feeling, when connected phone and laptop to charge first time, and no matter how done - it's working. Just hope this tip will be useful for your future project or to anyone, who will watch this. I used foam padding stripes under the aluminium sheet and the whole structure wraps roof in the same arc. Ends are fixed to railings. As additional benefit - easy to remove and use elsewhere. Cons - more complicated.
@@lelilimon that’s it mate. The tip can help others that may be attempting it so if they have several options that can way up what’s best for them. I know what you mean with the charge for the first time. I was out doing a video and had the BLUETTI at 60% connected with lights on and my phone charging. The BLUETTI charged to full and got the video done with my phone fully charged also. Honestly chuffed to bits.
Nice one Rob. This is the one job I'm going to struggle with. Getting the bottle to do it.

@RobnDob have fun mate and good luck. Looking forward to the videos
@@ingosundowner7312 cheers mate enjoy the fishing.
saw some video that showed a flex panel short out & burn? not sure if it was flexing caused it to crack from wind while driving?
Geez that would be a nightmare. This one’s definitely stuck down so hopefully I’ll avoid that.
