In this video I quickly cover some production techniques and how they shot this with the new Apple iPhone 15 Pro all while reacting to Olivia Rodrigo's get him back! The iPhone 15 blew me away with the quality and how cinematic it looks. Not only that, Olivia Rodrigo made another anthem off her studio album GUTS.

I'm not that into video editing but i was so blown away by this MV because of all the Olivias and how clean it was since I've seen the bts of shows with fake twins, and I wanted to see someone. be as impressed lol.
you hit the nail on the head about it being more than just the phone. i hope that people understand that even though it's cool that this was shot with an iphone, it could have been shot with any camera really and had the same result because $100K+ has gone into making this music video with the rigging for the phone itself, the motion controlled cranes, the team of rotoscope artists, the incredible colorists to match all the motion shots and showcase the ProRes dynamic range etc. and many more expensive assets. This video is not "achievable" for the every day person which is what bugs me as it's advertised that way.
I mean doesn’t that count for professional camera’s also?
i mean the point still stands that the quality of the new iphone camera in videos is incredible.
on that point, post processing is irrelevant.
like, when it comes to the IMAGE. (so ignoring the visual effects like the motion controlled automated cranes, the comping, etc.)
and besides the color grading.
the image and quality is extremely good, and that cannot be changed regardless if u throw money or not.
if you know how to color grade, and have the new iphone. you can make similarly looking images (like the scene outside in the street) that look just as amazing.
(im excluding the scenes inside because they were most likely a set and very well planned, everything from composition to the color of every object which is something we cant do).

Here Olivia and his crew gave a homage to the video "Ironic" from Alanis Morrisette !!( obviously different era,cars,and more action and best image quality). And a homage to the video "Freak on a Leash" from Korn,in some bullet scenes thru'windows. Awesome video !! Epic video !!

This video is totally ispired by her ( and mine too) music idol , the great Alanis Morissette, in particular the music video for "ironic" that has 4 version of Alanis that represent 4 different side of her personality. You should check that out.
The Video Music Awards were last night. Olivia’s Vampire won Best Editing!
Also… Taylor’s Anti-Hero won Best Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects. I know you’ve covered both these videos. Interesting, though.
Honestly I didn't like Taylor winning a heck lot of awards yesterday I mean no doubt she's talented but anti hero wasn't a strong contender and I feel others deserved it more

Besides the amazing cinematography using a phone. The concept of the video is so genius. The song ultimately about her conflicted emotions toward this guy. She want to break his heart but also want to be the one to stitch it. I’m n MV we are seeing different Olivia with different conflicting emotion as well. So i was blown away by this MV. Its simple to others but for me it’s amazing 😻
Olivia doesn't need a high technological camera to film, cause most of her video are of 90's vibe. Definitely an iphone can do!

I was just watching some videos about the iPhone 15 Pro models, and apparently they can now shoot in ProRes Log. I don’t know the specifics since I’m not a videographer, but it gives you more true to life footage that you can (or should) edit in postproduction. Whereas, the normal ProRes format would automatically try to adjust itself, giving it an oversharpened and noisy look. So I think that’s why it looks surprisingly good in the music video 🤔
I like that 50% of this video is him just jamming out to the song and not even talking about the VFX in it lol

This was a great video! And it's wonderful to see a man praising a female artist like this. I can just imagine the nasty things some men would say about Olivia in this video based on some nasty comments written by some men that I've been reading online lately.
So it's really refreshing to see a man praising a female artist.
And it was really great to learn about the video editing. I'd love it even more if you could show us on your computer how to make visual effects like this.

Did they have to mask the blurry guy frame-by-frame, or on one frame only to apply the effect to the the entire time he was in frame?
My guess is that they either rotoscoped him and it tracked the camera movement so it kept the blurriness on him, or they keyframed the mask frame by frame! But there’s not a ton of movement while he’s sitting there. So either would be pretty easy!

The phone is “cheap” compared to regular equipment used for MVs but the stabilizer used costed up to $500k

Did they use like an automated stabilizer to get her into the shot more then once? Oh nm lol. 5:00 did a shot like that for school but that was on a tripod and was already pretty hard to do
