yea a far too underwatched video, SUPER well explained. im a numbers and math kind of a guy, to really get the reason why im told to do something I need the reason whyy, and youve done that for me, and on a topic where lots before you have failed, thank you very much, looking forward to see the rest of your videos, and soon i may even take one of these tools to a spindle

Go for it. I recommend taking a class. From a good instructor it will put you 2 years ahead of trying to learn it on your own.

Tool height for carbides seems to work better if below centerline.

A wood lathe is NOT the same as a metalworking lathe. The presentation of the tool to the surface of the wood. Technically the tool could be presented vertically. A tall person needs a different hight to a short person. It is possible to turn without a toolrest. Also pronunciation of the word "hight" is NOT heith, it ends in ht not th. I started woodturning in 1962 and have taught woodturning to many including my grandson who started when he was four. Rest highT adjusted to suit him kneeling on a cupboard.
