Funny enough, my grandfather was a freemason according to my father. The closest "conspiracy" he was ever involved in was having them teach him some loopholes for property tax at the time for his farm, as well as helping him rebuild his grocery store after it got attacked and burned by the KKK in the early 50s (long story).
My dad almost joined it in college after being invited by his father, but he, in his words "thought it would be too much work. I'm trying to become a doctor. You think med school gives me the time to plot world domination?" lol

A friend of mine used to work as a chef at a place where a few Freemasons used to eat, it was near their lodge.
He managed to learn a couple of the handshakes and started using them in random places.....This guy got out of a speeding ticket because of it.

I suspect one of my great uncles was a mason. He was born in about 1830 I believe and his name was literally “Hiram Abiff” which is meant to be a masonic prophet i believe

As a Freemason myself, this is quite well done. The ritual is a bit different - of course - from that we use in our Grand Lodge (Grande Oriente d'Italia, I'm Italian), but it still quite fascinating.
I still have some doubts about revealing our rituals and "secrets", but after all if one is not a brethren, he won't understand any of the words so it's not such a problem.
P.S. we're not an outdated boy's club. If ur a Traveling Man u'll know.

I am an ex mormon, and it’s quite known of it’s possible mason origins in some of its founding members. It’s always fascinating to me how similar the speech and ritualistic words are. You must be quite a pious individual to follow this.

I am quite interested in Masonry, I am also a Scot and used to serve drinks in the masons lodge as a weekend job as my best friends father was the head of my childhood local lodge. I found the ceremonial nature of it all quite interesting, though I never got to observe ceremonies as I was usually only present for saturday and sunday football. Coming from practically growing up in a lodge, listening to Masons and Amaranth and Star and whatever other groups my family (and I) were involved in, this brought back wonderful memories. They are rare, but there are female and trans masons. We’re a bit slow, but we’re working on it. In the meanwhile there are related groups that take everyone.

Honestly, depending on the chapter, it's just a club really. They have the shitck of "secret initiations", but in reality it's just a club with some odd traditions, and no real religious connections.
Basically a group of dudes (though more chapters are becoming co-sex, though it's sadly only a small amount currently) having a social club.
There's some assholes though, and some institutional issues like sexism, elitism, etc, but again those are more social club symptoms than specific to the Masons.
