I learned to knit years ago using books from my local public library! It wasn't easy and I think I got discouraged because I didn't have a large variety of patterns to choose from. With all the tutorials available on UA-cam now, I think I have to revisit knitting and I think I'll enjoy it much more! Thanks for the suggestions! ❤

I’m a crocheter who’s easing myself into knitting. One thing that’s helping me is knitting ribbing to my crochet garments. Casting on is a nightmare for me (I can do it but it always ends up too tight) but by knitting onto crochet, I don’t have to worry about that. I can just get right into knitting and it adds a really nice finish to crocheted garments!
Oh and another tip for those easing from crochet to knitting: you can use a crochet hook to cast on and bind off! I’ve found that so helpful. I still haven’t finished a full knitting project yet, but I might try out one of these projects ❤

@@justdi3347I believe it’s a different technique called the Chinese Waitress Cast On/Bind Off. However I’ve tried tunisian crochet cast on with a knitting project before and it does work!

You can cast on on two kneedles and simple pull off one when ready to start knitting.

Thanks for these wonderful beginner ideas! I have been looking at trying some hobbies for self-care! Diane in Denmark has videos on Fridays where she gives four self-care assignments/ideas that one can choose from for the week and in one of those videos she mentioned being creative. Also Mariane Cresp mentioned in her boost your mood video about creativity. So I do not knit or crochet, but have been watching these types of videos. For example, TL Yarn Crafts temperature blanket and beginner friendly patten videos, with love, nikki video about a mental health blanket, and Carita from the channel she tried it videos about cardigans and the channel your knitting bestie.

Some people prefer English style (working yarn in right hand) and some prefer continental (working yarn in left hand) … it really just depends. I’m a lefty but knit a lot faster with the yarn in my left hand (continental style)
A lot of beginners learn continental first. Especially in the us

Good Saturday morning, Elise, this video was so encouraging. About three years ago I walked into a local thrift store and I ended up purchasing a bunch of knitting needles and a case to put them in for less than $10. I told myself that I was going to learn to knit but they are still sitting in their needle case on my shelf and I have not even attempted to use them. There are all kinds of knitting needles in that case. Your video was so encouraging, maybe that day is finally here and it is time to start knitting. Thanks for all the tips on where to go to learn to knit. Wish me luck.

    Dear Elise,
Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge of the knitting craft. I’m also grateful to have some resources to help me in my journey to learn knitting 🧶 My mother taught me and my sister as children but unfortunately it wasn’t what we wanted to be doing as children. Now that I’ve made some scarves on a loom I want to learn knitting with needles again. I have received my dearly departed Nana’s knitting needles recently, so I have found “The Knitting Circle” has some really good beginner knitting tutorials and a variety of different knitting styles which I have loved trying out including the Portuguese/Peruvian style, Australian/Irish Cottage/Lever Knitting, Shetland Knitting, Russian Knitting, etc. But I think I’m going to now try and make the “7- days of dish cloth” patterns I found. Hopefully, they will be quick and easy to learn, so I don’t get discouraged or bored 😅at least I’ll have my half finished crochet projects to finish to get back into if I feel like a break!
God’s blessings to you and all 🙏🏽💜🧶😻🐶

Appreciated the concentrated attention to knitting this time. You usually focus on crochet, which I do but not as much as my first love: 53 years worth of knitting! so this was a treat, and an obvious response to your question from a while back as to what viewers would like to see more of on your channel. Some of us said “knitting” and you surely picked up on that and came through. Thank you for venturing outside the norm! Great video!

Between you, TL Yarn crafts and Knitty Natty I was encouraged to learn how to knit. I have knitted like 8 Musselbrugh (sp?) hats now by Ysalda and a big chunky blanket and a couple of scarfs. I have crocheted for 40 years and having more crafts to do is so fun.

The learning process can be very frustrating, but once you get through it, the feeling is indescribable. For example, I recently decided to get some use out of my steel crochet hooks; why have them if I'm not going to use them? I had all sorts of excuses as to why it wouldn't work: my hands are too big, my eyesight is poor, I don't know what kind of thread to buy, etc. My initial attempts were slow and horrifying, and I wanted to give up before even starting. It was like learning to crochet all over again after having a stroke. I knew all the stitches, but neither the hook nor the thread was any help transferring that knowledge into an actual thing. But persistence paid off, and I'm pretty good with it now. I'm not the fastest, but I never was, and I don't want to be. I'll have a tablecloth ready for a birthday in September, and from the looks of it, it's going to be passed down through the generations. Thank you for the video.

I highly recommend a few kit club options for beginners as well. Annie's Kit Clubs and Jimmy Bean's Wool. Both offer monthly clubs that will help you create a blanket over the course of a year. The designer, Lena Skvagerson, does the videos and they are so easy to follow. As someone self-taught without any knitting friends, even when I don't need the help, I like to watch Lena's videos because it feels like you're knitting with a friend.
