I got the BNSF 8401 and man it looks sweets. I even compared it to my two others (9356 and 9303 from old runs) all three looks beautiful together. I even have NS 2681 and it also looks nice, but Athearn miss a few details that are present on the real versions of NS SD70M-2s, but I am not complaining as I love what Athearn has done with these. And yes these are in Athearn Genesis 2.0 line up.
Ya I was kind of pissed off a little, I am a huge Montana Rail Link fan and they did great on the 4404 (essential workers unit), but they could not take the time to put the right roof on the other MRL units. MRL doesn't use PTC, and it just irritates me because for $350 it should have the right roof.
Amen to that
@@charleshayes1349 Don't get me wrong, I love Athearn there good quality but what the hell.
I purchased the 4404 but I really want some MRL SD40-2XR or GP9 in ScaleTrains Rivet Counter or Athearn Genesis 2.0 if Athearn would ever add Super capacitors to their decoders. That’s my only problem with Athearn.
@@O-PAC they’ll learn eventually. Hopefully
It's coming so your covered.
Nice video I just bought the Katy heritage unit at my train store just yesterday and it looks and sounds awesome
Nice review James! I thought about aquiring a BNSF ACE, but due to other things, that will have to wait until either I can catch one of the leftovers on sale or wait until Run 2. Also since BNSF recently aquired Montana Rail Link. Running them on your layout as runthrough power may not sound all that unprototypical especially as the MRL locomotive fleet gets added to BNSF's roster.
Love those heritage units u have James
Those are some beautiful locomotives wish they were in N Scale
I got BNSF 8597 she’s a beauty! Love the ptc array with the skateboard tape really sets it off!
Looking awesome James they very welll done
They're really nice
Good video review James the color look great any walk way light the Graphic look great sure would be nice to see the fans movable while it running…. The paint looks awesome on all of the units…..Good review my friend thanks for sharing………Robert
Just picked up the NS SD70ACe, got the M-2 on layaway
Kool video 🚂❤️😎👍
I got both VTR 431, 432 & the MRL 4404 and they all look great
Hi James, even though no locomotives are perfect by any stretch I truly think Athearn did a good job. Plz reply to my comment and keep it up!
Hi James. First of all I love your HO Scale videos. I am An American HO Modeler from Australia, so your info is very much appreciated.
Just a quick question... Have you or will you be reviewing the Athearn Genesis SD70ACu (That is a 'U') I believe it is a rebuilt SD90Mac?
Thanks heaps for all your hard work... Matt

Nice!
Very nice review, James. What’s going on with the wiring in your layout?..I thought you had all of that done…or maybe I just wat cu ed an older review video?..
I have to get "The Katy"
Yep! The Katy is gorgeous
Beautiful models. And for the people who complain about things like the leaves being painted a few scale inches out of place: you are what's wrong with this hobby. Stop trying to suck the joy out of life. Enjoy it.
Since this video is two weeks only, what is the Athearn item number for the Norfolk southern units? I can’t not find them online.
My gripes with the ATHG ACe / M-2
Their plastic handrails SUCK. They always have and apparently always will as they seem to have no intentions to improve them.
The removable cab roof never makes a 100 percent flush seating and always looks like the roof has been placed on the cab. It’s a option we don’t need. Make the cab a single piece casting.
Windshield wipers should have 2 arms per wiper. Not that single arm ATH uses.
It'd been nice if Athearn added some grab irons on the snow plow like they did for the other Genesis 2.0 models that they created that weren't just a refresh model with a few changes. Especially if you're close to paying $300.

YES! That’s another gripe I have that I totally forgot about. How the hell does a model by today’s standard and price point not have that detail?
Got the NS version last week and was disappointed with it. For the 2.0 version to be an improvement, really can't see any difference between the new one and one I've had for 10 years. The 70acu they done a much better job on. For $297 I was expecting much more than just a new looking box it came in. Still a good model but far from expectations. The jacking pads on the underframe of mine were all distorted and out of position.
I didn't get one myself, but their last EMD GEN2.0 engine, the SD60 Triclops had rotating bearing caps. While unreliable on the SD60s, Scaletrains has proven that they can be reliable. They could've at least had them, but they didn't do that.
@@hoscalerailfan The Scale Trains C40-9 I ordered came two days later than this 70m-2. It is by far more superior in every way. Detail, weight and performance wise. Plus at a lower cost. ST's even sent a complimentary airslide car at no cost.
@@kevinharris1392 I agree. I much prefer ScaleTrains models and performance over Athearn 7 days a week. The only thing that keeps me buying Athearn is the variety of paint schemes. If ScaleTrains started making MKT or MRL rivet counter locomotives, I’d probably never go back to Athearn. I do appreciate the improvements that Athearn is making but honestly it’s still lagging behind ST. They still don’t offer super capacitors with their Genesis line while ST Rivet Counter comes with them standard AND costs less. For me that’s a big deal, especially when I have to buy a current keeper and then install it.
That NS is a SD70M2
I got the CN 8934 SD70M-2 and it looks great but the sound quality is not the greatest. I’m switching mine to loksound
Hey James! Are they going to re-release NS heritage ace’s or just the UP units?
I have a UP Heritage SD-70 ace , Never used , used only as display model . It's for sale
I have a Ho scale Daylight steam locomotive and I want a sound card that has the same sound of the real 4449 Daylight steam locomotive
