I really like what your doing, and I THINK it's the way of the future. I do have some resevations, I am nuts about Permaculture/Regenerative growing practices, just ask my wife. I am on a 2.5 hectare block north of Bundaberg so I think your exeriences very relevant to my efforts. I am reluctant to remove the eucalypts beyond a cetain point and have swaled the land amoung them, this seems to be working two years in. I do wonder about olepathy in regard to planting eucalypts amoung crops and wonder what your exerince to date tells you. I notice your planting Maccas amoung the mixed growth, on a commercial basis this precludes the use of normal harvesting methods presently in operation, although, I did read about a couple who are using a shaker/catcher to workk with each tree individually........... Hi Terry. Yes the allelopathic nature of eucalypts worried me in the past. My understanding now is you can manage (chop and drop) the euc foliage at the point of flowering / seed formation. This is when the parent tree drops oil to make it safe for its babies by killing off the competition. Much like a pine tree does. If you remove the foliage, at this point it may head off this process. In forestry operations they leave an afro at the top and remove all side branches up to the afro to avoid knot formation. This assist the tree truck to straighten. As an experiment 14mnths ago I half removed some spotted gum next to my first row very reluctant to take down existing trees. The bananas and other plants have not suffered and are doing fine.

I have acerage towards Miriam Vale , so I’m also very interested. Being the same climate , always makes me pay more attention. We are full on into permaculture but only about 11 months on our journey. But have gone hard.

What equipment do you use and how do you start from virgin paddocks

Tractor, a double disc plow for virgin paddocks, the rotary, bed forming discs and a deep ripper
