The only way to trick the engine is with a grid that has no thrusters and no cockpits. If it has any of those, the game just reverts the speed back to the speed limit. However, gravity generators and artificial mass blocks still seem to work.
@@MajorJon so you could use it to launch a grav drive ship and accelerate to a couple km/s and basically fly to any planet you want, just can’t stop tho. I’d imagine you wouldn’t be able to get back above the speed limit again right?
so could you use a clang gun as a way to launch escape pods? i mean if you can fit enough in a ship it would seem like a good idea, since it gets the pod passenger away from danger quite quickly

What if you launched a small fighter with that? Would it still be able to accelerate after being shot, if it doesn’t destroy itself?

You could launch a fighter that builds a cockpit and thrusters on itself after being fired.
