Review: Dewalt 20v Cordless Reciprocating Saw

In this review I'll compare my well-worn 18v DeWalt cordless reciprocating saw to the DeWalt DCS380 20v cordless reciprocating saw which is sold as part of a kit with a 5AH battery and a charger. This saw has a four-way mounting system which I consider to be particularly important.

I bought one. I notice that when I put the blade in horizontally it does not have much play, but when I put the blade in vertically there is a lot of play and wobble. Is that normal?

You may get different amounts of side play depending on the orientation of the blade, but that's with the machine off and just pushing with your hand, correct? In actual use the blade should basically self center in the cut you are making. If you find that you are getting wobble or whiplash when in the middle of the cut the problem is usually a bent or worn blade.

I’m still a little leery of cordless power tools, especially for something like a recip saw. Plus the cost is even more prohibitive as compared to corded ones.
But I will admit that the idea of not having to use extension cords and twisting around to get the right angle is appealing

That's why I don't use the cordless recip saw as my main saw on a demolition day or other heavy use. For lighter use, or for occasional cuts it works just fine, though. Other tools are actually better in cordless form. I haven't used a corded drill in years.

I'm the same way but to not lug around a cord might be worth it... getting a dewalt cordless circular and reciprocating saw this friday
