  • This was the 50th Greyhound Derby final and the sponsors Spillers increased the prize money by £10,000 to £35,000. The winner's cheque was received by Indian Joe's owner the Belfast bookmaker Alfie McLean who had bought him after the 1st round for a reputed £40,000! It was a brave victory by John Hayes dog who suffered with recurrent lameness throughout the competition.
