Mike Palmer went to see John at his Claverhambury kennels in Essex to talk about his Derby team comprising of Squire Delta, Hypnotic Stag and Jims Blue. John also went through his history in the sport and told Mike the best 3 dogs he's trained.

Errol Blyth spoke to Reading trainer and breeder Mal Thomas about his success on the coursing field after Johns Mascot won the Waterloo Cup. Mal gives Errol a tour of his kennels and they also discussed his top stud dog Tapwatcher and a litter of pups he was rearing out of his former staying star Trans Mercedes.

Clive Lawrence spoke to leading owner John Davis at the opening of his Elms Kennels at Ripley in Surrey in January 1992. John had just received his owner-trainer licence but told Clive that his Farloe Melody would stay in Ireland with Matt O'Donnell and be aimed at the English Derby at Wimbledon. Of course 6 months later John was to become a Derby winning owner!

Included in this interview are the 1991 Blue Riband at Wembley where he finished runner-up when odds on favourite and his win in the Archie Scott Memorial Trophy at Hall Green. Dempseys Whisper and Hidden Amber also feature.

An interview with trainer Stan Kennett filmed for The Greyhound Month in February 1991. Mike Palmer went to see Stan who was about to transfer from Hackney to Crayford. They talked about Stan's wish to see public trap draws for all open races and his thoughts on the NGRC! Poor Sue was Stan's star performer at the time and he talked about her expected entry in the TV Trophy.

Amazing, I was there that night and had about 6 months salary on Chart King. Thanks for posting this I haven't seen it in decades.
I won`t be watching this video. The day he associated himself with Michelle Conelly is the day i lost all respect for the man. And since she was found guilty of 7 counts of animal cruelty and neglect, hes still standing by her. This is not a man that should be involved in greyhound racing, regardles of his past achievements. And to call him a champion trainer is an insult to greyhound racing.

Wow this brings back some happy memories. The USA greyhounds on Go Barking Mad was my go to TV viewing late at night after the family had gone to bed - I loved the racing at Wonderland in particular. Also at the weekend in the mornings the Aussie racing kicked in - wonderful stuff from down under from tracks like The Meadows and Wentworth Park. I miss GBM even more having taken this trip down memory lane ... Bob Mason

Was fortunate to be staying with his owner that weekend. A wonderful Greyhound. Would loved to him seen him against Blue Murlen who I stood at stud. They met once in the Blue Riband and Murlen won. Missed the Derby that year because of injury !

Met David a few times.have several of his pictures...scurlogue Champ picture..and one of his famous ones..."catch me if you can "..where I bought at the greyhound + whippet shop,Chingford road,about 40 years ago.. Went to one of David's exhibitions at Harlow one Sunday..met him at shawfield..sure he had a share in westmead woofa alongside Bernard cribbing..
