A fun legend would have been Facel Vega.

    • @nygelmiller5293

      To Sandy Needham
I was going to say FACEL VEGA was in more or less the same league! EXCLUSIVE and, I think hand made, not mass produced.
The Facel Vega upright headlights influenced ALVIS and MERCEDES.
      All of them legends!
I always think the ALVIS hard tops, and CONVERTIBLES (not shown) , were a MUST HAVE, if you wete a Lord!

You are saying the same things again and again - with a great lack of serious facts. The commentary is rambling and unfocused..

The Alvis TE (and TF) cost more than the DB4 and DB5 ….. hence the real problem …. Well over twice a top Jag.

Plus the performance of a 3 litre inline six dating back to 1946, with little more than 135 bhp? Or maybe 145 bhp? It was a highly cultivated traveling luxury coupe.

What's 'shocking' is how careless and inaccurate this video is.

Jensen had a larger production capability that you suggest. At least for car bodies. Mechanicals seem to have been their bottleneck, all sourced off the shell from other manufacturers. Volvo used them to produce the P1800, if you see one with split front bumpers, its a Jensen produced.

Jensen produced also the panels for the Austin Healey 100 and the Austin A40 Tourer 1951 to 1954, the Jensen Healey between 1972 and 1976 was one of the last Jensen models, its 16 valve 2.0 liter unit was used for the first LOTUS esprit from 1975 on..

On the Alvis, independent front suspension was an innovative feature on a car built in the early 1960s? As far back as the Mark 1 Ford Consul, independent front suspension was de rigueur on small, inexpensive cars.
The Sunbeam Talbot 90 had one big strike against it in the late 40s and early 50s, the rationing in steel. Allocation of steel was based not on production numbers, but on the number of cars exported. It was "Export or die" for car manufacturers. Export generally meant to the US, and the old-fashioned styling compared to the styling of American cars of equal or greater stature made the Sunbeam Talbot a hard sell. Add the import duties levied by the US, and the car was never going to sell well there.
The Marlin was never going to be a luxurious anything. The first 2 years it was based on the mid-sized Classic platform. The proportions were off because it had originally been designed for the compact American platform. The Marlin had to compete with the Dodge Charger, introduced for 1966 as a variant of the Dodge Coronet. Charger had 4 bucket seats with a full length console in its debut year. It also had distinctive styling front and rear. The base engine in Marlin was an inline 6 competing against cars with a standard V8. The Marlin was more sizzle than steak.
It seems the voice over suffers from two maladies: Verbal diarrhea and a constipation of ideas. Droning in and on, repeating information while showing clips of the car under discussion. Trouble is that the clips are shown over and over.

I think I am correct in saying a strong marketing point by Alvis was that the Late Duke of Edinburgh owned an Alvis Convertible.

The Iso Fidia had the same situation as some of the LAGONDAS. As you said about some of these makes - not much publicity or production capacity, unfortunately.

Regarding the Alvis, not a good idea to hang heavy metal doors off wooden posts.

I don't care what anyone has to say to the contrary, but the AMC Marlin is a seriously good lookin ride, all it needs is an AMC 401 big block, posi rearend and a 5 or 6spd....

The same story in every case. As for the British brands, they foretold the future of the entire British car industry. Some British niche brands did survive through the ‘60s - Morgan, Bristol, Lotus, Aston Martin - though always by the skin of their teeth and with regular injection of other people’s money. Car manufacturing has never been for the feint hearted or those with shallow pockets.

A better class on AI voice. No mention of CV8 glass fibre body or Alvis aluminium.
Many pictures of Alvis TD21 in the TE description.
I still wonder whether I should have bought the beautiful drophead TD back in 1970.
£500, I could have scraped together but, at 19 years old, I’m sure it would have eaten up my entire income.
