Ughh exactly edddie i thought i need a tool for it but i guess i dont i think i. Gonna take my impala to autozone and have them show me where it is exactly its weird because i didnt have this problem with my other impala
On the 2007 Impala, it is a wing nut that you turn. A flash light looking down from the passenger side can help to reveal where you need to reach. It is hard to find at first. Good Luck.
A helpful piece of advice. If the petcock valve is not easily turntable by hand, you can use a 7/8" deep socket with a 3/8" ratchet to get it loose. That was the only way I was able to get the petcock valve loose on my 2009 Chevy Impala with a 3.5L engine.
Heads up for all you DIY’ers there’s a line at the bottom of the overflow tank. Fill it up to that line or just a bit above!!! I seen this video to see where the line was and I filled it up to where it’s at in this video and my coolant was pouring out!! I thought I had a hole in my tank but there’s a small vent in the back of the tank that pours out when the tank is full!!
Good video, one step i have done different instead of filling, start/turn off vehicle etc to release air in the system. I have connected a coolant filling funnel to the filling neck that releases air while putting in coolant automatically.
Distilled water, not just water. 😅 caught ya guys. Thank you for the video. I got a client wanting me to do this job tomorrow morning for him and I wanted to make sure it was similar to other cars ive done
It's just easier to loosen the bottom hose with the clamp just enough to get it to drain go inside have a cup of coffee when it's all drained put the hose clamp it back on start filling and bleeding
@@Anon1mous thank you yes. I just noticed that the Spurs on the clamp are turned inward towards the firewall and components and very hard to get a needle nose pliers to get it :( might have to cut it and put a new hose lol
You'll have to buy 3 gallons and probably use 2 and a half gallons, just did mine, but I flushed and drained every drop, even the reservoir, I use a turkey baster to get all the dirty antifreeze and sediments out
Not surr if this has been mentioned already but you didnt mention to tighten the peacock (if thats what it was called) back... are you suppose to and if so when?
Only if the fluid is discolored when you do a normal drain through the petcock. If the coolant looks okay, there's no need to do the flush. That's per the GM procedure.
Does this impala in particular has a bleeder valve or no? To release the air I’m asking because of all the starting and stopping of the vehicle, because some people I’ve seen where they have a valve they can unscrew to bleed air
Car is leaking coolant from passer side. And I was looking at videos of old Chevy impala and saw that they have coolant elbow pipes. Are these the same on the 2008 impala.
There are a few spots on the passenger side - it could be the water pump itself leaking, or where the hose attaches just forward of it - there's also the coolant bottle at the back, cap, and the filler neck
This video only shows how to drain the radiator only which only holds 1 gallon the rest of the coolant is in the engine block n heater core which can be drained by removing thermostat
The 2006 Chevrolet Impala has a coolant capacity of 12.3 quarts for the initial fill. The type that should be used in the vehicle is orange Dex Cool; 50/50 diluted.
They are using a premix 50/50 antifreeze and water. You can use any 50/50 premix brand. Most all antifreeze brands today can be used in aluminum radiators.
50/50 DEX-COOL is the Recommended coolant, Not sure if the Prestone is compatible or not. May be best to check with vehicle manufacture or Prestone them selves.
Thanks for the vid, it makes a lot of sense My concern, though, is that I only dropped about half the fluid that I expected and could only add about 1.25 gallons on my flushes. This is with the cap off and with the petcock the whole way open. Am I missing a step?
It should be located on the passenger side, but it may be a little hidden behind a plastic cover or the air dam. If you can't find it on the passenger side, try checking the drivers side, some models had the petcock on the drivers side. If you can't find a petcock or drain anywhere on the radiator, you can drain the coolant by removing the lower rad hose (but warning, this can be messy)!
Yeah it should, idk if my previous comment posted but everything for the 3.9 3.5 and I’m pretty sure maybe the 3.6 are all identical. I think the coolant concept is kinda universal for these vehicles
My temperature gauge goes to normal range when idle or driving, but every so often it goes three quarters of the way up on the temperature gauge for a few seconds then goes back down to normal. Could this be cause by a head gasket issue or faulty thermostat? I don't see any leakage underneath. Thanks.
Sounds like something to do with a temperature sensor. They usually fail slowly and that's one of the things that happens when they start to go out. I could also be a thermostat that's sticking and then popping open. If it's been a while since you've had a new thermostat, I'd start with that since they're cheap.
my 06 did the same....check your level coolant in radiator,it may be low as was mine. That did resolve the issue..Now if it does the same thing ,,then it could be thermostat or temp sensor..I would change both out .. easy to do..
I have a 2006 Chevy impala and the that runs in front of the engine is leaking but I have no idea how and where to find them because I don’t know the name of them
My petcock is not nearly so easy to turn. It's blocked by a metal flange, and I bruised my arm on the alternator squeezing my arm down there to reach it.
Definitely not easy to break loose - if you didn't see it below, check out the comment by David Lamb where he suggests using a 7/8" socket - that should do it.
Sure can! Low coolant (or air in your coolant) can cause a number of codes that might normally point towards problems with the water pump, thermostat, etc - definitely the first thing to check!
I have one question, I have a 2015 Impala limited old body style from 06-13 but its the 3.6 V6. Mine doesn’t have the radiator cap so its only a resevoir on the left side. About 8/10 of a gallon came out, I only used 1 gallon, the book shoes 2.25 gallons. I’m assuming just keep the other gallons in case for a later use?
Video worked!
(Except unclamped the bottom hose cause i couldnt find the valve to release coolant)
Thanks though 👌🏽 No more air bubbles

This video is the creme de la creme of car videos, and incidentally, the best "How To" video of ANY kind I've ever seen.
I like how you put in the right amount of casual chat despite doing a promo video.

Good tip!
Let's just say that part of the video was.. trimmed down for time
Show i have a 06 impala so would i need socket to drain the antifreeze
@@sergiomelendez9186 I would recommend using a socket since the petcock valves on the Impala's have a tendency to be stuck on pretty good.
My 08 3900 cannot use a socket. I used a pry bar and pliers to turn it open. Closing was easier.

I was thinking the same thing... That line is a cold fill line btw, so let your car cool down before filling it
I came to the video to check where the cold fill line is. They overfilled the reservoir. No mention of the CFL.
Their shirts are nice though...
I was thinking the same thing they overfilled it 😂
This helped to fix my heater issue. Thank you.
Very helpful thank guys!! Being a single mom, I'm all about saving 💰

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! My Impala did not have heat for a few months, now it does!!
Oh yeah, low coolant typically means no heat, especially when stopping at traffic lights. Always remember to check coolant frequently

How to replace the coolant release valve on a 2011 Chevy Impala?
I still don't know where the drain plug is
On the passenger side, near the bottom.
Exactly idk why he wasn’t more specific
Thanks! That's all I needed to know.
Car should have a instruction book OR look it up on google😊
@@firemanspitta3437right? This entire channel should just be deleted cuz google
You can go to Dollar tree get a nice drain pan for a dollar roaster pan
How many gallons does the radiator system hold
You'll have to buy 3 gallons and probably use 2 and a half gallons, just did mine, but I flushed and drained every drop, even the reservoir, I use a turkey baster to get all the dirty antifreeze and sediments out
10.1 quarts on a total system drain.
The coplant reservoir has a max fill line like 6 inches below where you filled it 🤣
That’s what I was thinking
Not surr if this has been mentioned already but you didnt mention to tighten the peacock (if thats what it was called) back... are you suppose to and if so when?
Aren't you supposed to remove the two engine block drain plugs on these motors to get all of the coolant out of the block?
Is that why I can't get the coolant out of my radiator?
Only if the fluid is discolored when you do a normal drain through the petcock. If the coolant looks okay, there's no need to do the flush. That's per the GM procedure.

I’d assume doing this multiple times
How much coolant should be in the resouvior there isn’t any hot or cold mark on it
How much coolant do I need to fill everything back up including resivor
I still cant find the pitcock on the radiator. Where is it?
doesnt the dex coolant go in the white reservoir @3:03
Can you do a vid on a 2014-17 chevy impala....great vid
I want that too
I cannot guarantee anything but I will let the media team know about your requests.
Good lookin out famm
Do a rack and pinion video
I will run it past the media team and see what they say, no promises thou.
Mad work how much would this be with the mechanic?
We cannot give you a accurate estimate, it will differ depending what shop you go to, what they need to do to get the parts, etc.
Good Video Guys! 👍
Thanks guys about to change the coolant on a 08 impala I just bought 👍👍
Good luck! If you haven't seen it check David Lamb's comment a few posts down for a great tip on getting the petcock valve open!
Guys my cap broke, got a new one and doesn’t fit got another one but a new gm original radiator cap and still nothing does the spring on it adjust?
How much coolant do you need
Y'all said the coolant hadn't been changed in 10 years. Why didn't you flush the cooling system?

Passenger side, facing inwards towards the engine, bottom corner of the radiator.
What does 2500 rpm mean?
That's roughly how much you should rev up the engine when bleeding the air.
