Literally what I thought when I saw the scene. I was having a nerdgasm that they had managed to make an actual semi reasonable reason why they're standing there in the open around a standard like it's the 18th century.

The entire thing is a reference to the last stand of the Crimson Fists, literally the 1st art from Rouge Trader (the 1st edition). An art who has been reference to the rift and back by so many WH40K artists. The guy holding the banner at top surrounded by Space Marines at all side shooting. HECK! there was one of Calgar himself doing the same with the fist up, Ultramarines, and even Cadians on the image (I have that as my wallpaper).

It’s right up there with the shot from the Helsreach UA-cam series of the temple falling around Grimaldus-that is one of the most Warhammer shots you can get.

My only wish for this scene is that in the heat of the fighting. Titus recites the “what is our duty” litany with his brothers shouting back the responses.
My only gripe with this bit is that it only lasts 45 seconds. I would have preferred it to be twice as long. Still, best scene from any game I’ve seen in a long time.
I love how Lord Calgar just casually walks through the middle of the battlefield with his boys just killing everything that gets near them. Like taking a stroll through the park...40K style

Primarches are the chapters' biological father. They are the genetic makeup for the chapters' geneseed and their leader above the chapter master. So he's bsically saying "we hold this ground in our dad's name."
They really don't make games like this anymore. This was probably the most man's man honor, duty, sacrifice, high testosterone segment in any game ever.

I was playing this mission, and the moment I saw Lord Calgar appear from the Heavens in the time of need @1:55, the amount of courage and morale boost I got was astronomical.

Unfortunately I think that's just a normal Vanguard Veteran with the regular Mark X Tacticus helmet. The light just makes one half of his helmet much more pronounced while the other is in the dark.
Cant wait to one day fight as iron warriors against the imperial fist dogs and being in a similar situation until our iron born leader Perturabo the cunning springs agreta trap that will vhnage the favor of battle against our enemies.
This reminds me of a scene from the book Sons of Fenris, three space wolves are trying to protect a navigator allied to their chapter by getting her on board a ship off the planet. They are surrounded by constantly spawning in thousand sons and a daemon, the wolves had no hope to survive the leader of the wolves lets out a massive death howl… only to have it answered by a venerable dreadnaught coming through the wall and dozens more wolves pouring into the room.
I'm a raven guard period. But this was the best moment in the holl game apart from the beginning when your alone against the swarm. Seriously amazing. FOR THE EMPEROR! VICTORY OR DEATH BROTHER'S!
This resonates with me in a way nothing ever has before. That last defiant stand against a horde of monsters, screaming at them even as they're gunning at you. But you don't care, all you care is taking them with you. FUCK YES!!!!!!

I was thinking the same thing when I played through this. Utterly epic.
