As an Astros fan, I am actually really happy to see the Tigers doing well, no shame losing to a young team of upstarts who play with passion and employ a very innovative pitching strategy.
Honestly this commissioner has made baseball better and more entertaining to watch, the new wild card format, the pitch clock, the overtime runner on 2nd base rule, and other changes are all great.. Games aren’t lasting 3 and a half hours anymore
At the very least, this year’s playoffs have been more fun than last year. Last year was a bunch of blowouts early. Only a couple genuinely tense games
I like the best of 3 all at one ballpark. It gives more incentive to teams to do well in Regular Season. With 3 divisions, it's not going to equal to all div winners, so having full Home field advantage for all games for the 3rd seed Div winner against a WC team is fair. Until league expands and there are 4 divs (or just 2 like back in the 60s/70s which I would prefer), one Div winner had to play a WC and they need to have a clear advantage like all home games
Patrick was right about the payroll of the 26 man post roster of the Tigers. But the Baez contract lifted that figure in 24. His ping about comparison to the ncaa tournament and sudden elimination was apt.
They kinda have to speed through the Wild Card round. You have teams like the Mets, Tigers, Phillies and Yankees still in it. It’s October…those teams play in open stadiums, not domes. Weather becomes an issue. This is why they really need to consider shortening the season by a week or two. I say this as a Tigers fan…if the season was much shorter, we probably don’t get in…thanks Minnesota !!! 😂
The Tigers pay Javy Baez almost $25M per year but since he’s not on the active roster (thank God) it skewed the Tigers payroll. But still, Tigers playing Moneyball
2:48 holy crap really that's the tigers budget wow!!! No wonder they want this championship so badly. I didn't know we were so underfunded when it comes to the tigers but boy are they hot. It just shows you money doesn't always buy the best talent
This is their playoff roster payroll. Their 2 highest paid players aren't on the playoff roster. Javy Baez because he's injured and Kenta Maeda because he sucks. The next highest paid player after that is rookie Colt Keith.
I like the best-of-three series, but I don't like that the same team hosts all three. If a team makes the playoffs, they should get at least one home game regardless of seeding. I miss the NBA playing best-of-five series in Round 1. We never got a home playoff game for the Indiana Fever this year since Connecticut won games 1 and 2 at home, and that sucked because I probably would have bought a ticket if a game had been played in Indiana. In both cases, Game 2 should have been hosted by the lower-seeded team. The higher-seeded team should host Games 1 and 3 if necessary. MLB has 162 games. Could they not cut it down a bit even to 160 to allow a lower-seeded team to host a wild card game? That creates parity. One reason NCAA has those upsets is the neutral sites. Since we won't have that in professional sports, at least give the underdog a chance to host one game regardless.
this playoff system is AWFUL. there's no point in playing 162 games and letting 40 percent of the league in the playoffs. Then having the 4 best teams sit for a week just to let in mediocre teams. And within a decade it's gonna be 16 teams in the playoffs.
You can say that for any playoff format. "Why have a season if you get bounced in the round of 64 as a higher seed in March madness?" Or, "Why have 17 games if a divisional winner gets bounced in the wild card round in the NFL?" That's the point of the playoffs, anything is possible.
@@pandersonnike 162 games is way too long for this nonsense. having the best teams sit for a week in an everyday sport is absurd. if they wanna turn it into a glorified tournament they should shorten the regular season by a lot. this best of 3 crap also has not gone how they hope- 2 of 12 series have made it to a third game. like i said failure. even scaling the examples you give these 3 game series are way too short. 1 nfl playoff game relative to a 17 game season is about the equivalent of having a best of 9 baseball series not best of 3.
I don’t mind the format, but the fact that the tigers are moving on and they don’t even have a #2 starter is pretty sad and bad for baseball. Also I’d be surprised if even a million people watch game 1 of tigers vs guardians. Probably won’t get half a million watching
@@ju5t1n26 lol I just don't care that my teams success is detrimental to baseball honestly it's probably good for baseball that a team like the tigers beat the Astros it's gonna make some people happy to see them out of it honestly I wish it was the Yankees no hard feelings Houston just couldn't get it done

Baseball is worth talking about more. It’s way better to watch now and it is tense.

The Detroit Tigers: The ROAR of 2024.
Back in the postseason after a 10 year break. Let's go beat Cleveland next!!!!
It’s been fun watching these games.
We all know how MLB loves their 20 year old superstars

Not a Tigers or Royals fan (an unfortunate Dbacks fan here), but I love seeing these teams in the Playoffs and beating teams like the Astros, Braves.
Weren't you guys just in the world series?

One wild card per league was more than sufficient...though Bob Costas said even that is one too many!
