Friends was recorded in front of a live audience so that’s not possible. The laughing is quite literally built into the audio files, hence why it is not perfectly timed and easily removable. People laugh because it’s funny, so sometimes that drags over on time. It’s not a track per se.
TheGreatWal as a sound engineer that sounds terrible. They should have separate mics to balance the audience with the actors (probably from a boom) and this *might* be on separate tracks somewhere. Jarod Hogan Friends has a live audience. There has been sequences where audiences' laughter was too noisy/histeric and the movie editing has to cut that out and insert a normal laugh track in, however.

I like that the removal of the laughs is imperfect, so you hear what sounds like a single person starting to laugh once or twice, then thinking better of it because everyone is staring at them in dead silence.
Thanks to Ross Gellar, I take a portable laugh track wherever I go and people now think my once unacceptable behavior as super-hilarious!! Thanks Friends!!!
Every single sitcom from "Big " Hollywood studios has been able to “debunk” the claim of "laughter machine" that way, _ergo_ every single claim would be nothing but a "sour-grapes" urban-legend/-myth.
Well it sounds weird because the editing isn't perfect exactly and because even if it was, the acting is done in a way to work with the audience's laughter. They pause more than they would in a comedy without a live audience.
Yeah. Ross is just horrible at realizing how the things he says can be misinterpreted sometimes. It's funny because you know it's miscommunication so it just turns out absurd.
Xenon first all, you need to know the context of the scene. In this scene the entire joke is that Ross comes across as a psychopath, laugh track or not. I still find it funny with out the laughing track. Friends has good writing. Laughing tracks are just a lazy choice by the producer director. If there is a laughing track than the director doesn't have to do as much work.
Jarod Hogan Friends uses a live audience, except for some episodes.
They had an audience for all the episodes apart from the cliff hanger ones! Example when Ross says Rachel at the wedding. I am a friends nerd :) Sorry
Jarod Hogan Friends has a live audience. There has been sequences where audiences' laughter was too noisy/histeric and the movie editing has to cut that out and insert a normal laugh track in, however.
Yeah no trust me most of the laughter on Friends is fake. I just binged all seasons and that one fucking laugh you always hear on How I Met Your Mother is in almost EVERY episode. I believe that it was taped infront of a live audience, but every episode has mostly fake laughter in it.
+Abby Madeline probably because it's easier to edit it with fake laughs sometimes the audience might laugh too loud or too low and it sounds off
Ross was just ahead of his time. He's today's edgy lords
You have to actually be funny to be an edgelord.
He's today's good guy ™
"Edgelord" sounds like the super villain in a bad comic book.
@@MasterAdam100 this implies edgelords are capable of being funny
What's bad is that even with the laugh track taken out, there's still giggling. This show had a constant stream of laughs and giggles and I didn't even notice it.
Ross is almost like Dennis from Always Sunny without the laugh track, just a New York 90s version
Aye i was about to comment that!! Without the laugh track hes the most physcotic like Dennis Reynolds from Always Sunny 😂😂
LOL YES
The whole original point of the joke is that he comes off as a psycho when he's actually just a bad communicator, it's not like some crazy new layer has been revealed here.
Yesss, thank u, finally someone gets it
That's a slippery fucking slope. I can definitely see why that'd be a character in the 90's though.
I think people got the joke.
@@hamokamo have h seen any of the comments lol, many of them dont get it
Finally someone else gets it 👁️👄👁️
You should do the one where Ross talks to Rachel’s boss about taking his son to the museum. 😂
Hahaha
Without the laugh track, you really start to notice and realize how narcissistic, manipulative, controlling, jealous, sexist, and generally unlikeable Ross is.
Only now do I appreciate that Ross is a disgraceful human being.
Dr. Zoidberg I tell my friends I hate Ross and they don’t get it. They think he’s funny and great. This is the type of stuff I’m talking about
@@samanthalaube fuck your friends.
@@samanthalaube oh come on how do u enjoy a show if ur hateful of one of the characters
@@Tiffany-ov2jf i enjoyed sons of anarchy and i hated 99% of the characters in that.
I watched a no laugh track for that 70s show and it was more sad than funny.
I wish Big Bang theory didnt have a laugh track...
It's kind of a crappy show, but they claim they don't use a laugh track. They film in front of a live audience.
I wish Big Bang theory didn't.
But then how would you be able too tell which jokes were funny? Oh wait, it's The Big Bang Theory!
Loren Jones Meh, they probably just force them to laugh
I wish big bang theory didn't exist
This is infinitely better there's actually some comedic value I'd never have noticed before cos of the laugh tracks
So does anyone know that friends was recorded in front of a live audience and it’s not a laugh track
Hahaha yeah keep thinking that
@@DrMonty-yr1kc "Friends was filmed in front of a live audience-except for cliffhangers. I mean if you did just a little research you could find out that it was filmed live
@@atroniix7402 and if you did a lil research youd know that techniques "enhancing" the laughter are often used.
The audience is still given cues on when to laugh/clap/etc.
@@thepurpleumbrella5041 whether they're given cues or if it's sometimes cut off or enhanced does not change the fact that it was filmed in front of a live audience
Without the original laugh track, I could hear myself laughing out loud and this is my new laugh track
Lol it's still hilarious because Daivd Schwimmer is a terrific actor.
Watching Ross without the laugh tracks is even funnier he's a complete psychopath 😂
When you watch friends without the laugh tracks…You realize they all have psychological issues 😂
This is still hilarious, but it changes the entire tone of the scene lol
well ross was always creepy even with the laughing track
I like that the removal of the laughs is imperfect, so you hear what sounds like a single person starting to laugh once or twice, then thinking better of it because everyone is staring at them in dead silence.
UA-cam is finally starting to understand what I want
Still funny without the laugh track unlike TBBT...
Manuel Carlos Herrera Fernandez Nah, not funny
Neither show is particularly funny.
@@cheneethompson5121 whats tbbt?
@@cheneethompson5121 ah right😂
Thanks to Ross Gellar, I take a portable laugh track wherever I go and people now think my once unacceptable behavior as super-hilarious!! Thanks Friends!!!
This makes the show watchable
For anyone who says the show merely used a laugh track, watch bloopers and youll see how much the audience was enjoying the production
Just put cheery music in the background and every Ross scene becomes a scene from IASIP.
That episode of always sunny where they make a sitcom makes a lot of sense.
It's still funny, thank goodness for that.
for fuck sake, humanity is doomed
Shit isn't funny and it's definitely not funny with a laugh track
the context is also lost. ross is trying to show the dangers of women being attacked and failed to do so on his friends
Yeah. Ross is just horrible at realizing how the things he says can be misinterpreted sometimes. It's funny because you know it's miscommunication so it just turns out absurd.
I was still cracking up over this one though. The buildup with Unagi is still hilarious
I haven’t seen this episode, and now I’m in equal parts confused and disturbed.
I have never watched any friends and honestly I’d rather be stabbed repeatedly than watch a full episode.
Xenon so you’d rather be stabbed than watch a show that you’ve never seen before.
@@suf1an658 Yes, friends is awful from the clips I've seen. They are all psychopaths.
Xenon first all, you need to know the context of the scene.
In this scene the entire joke is that Ross comes across as a psychopath, laugh track or not.
Second of all, all of them being psychopaths just isn’t true, they’re just flawed characters.
Even if they fit your description of a psychopath that doesn’t mean the show is bad. It means you only characters who are good people
@@suf1an658 Yeah I'm still not interested. From what I've seen the humour isn't for me. Maybe being british I just don't like this that much. I've seen tbbt and it seems similar.
Everyone is talking about the laugh track but there wasnt one. It was filmed in front of a live studio audience. The laughter was recorded live (and sometimes tones down).
The point is how insane what he says is it makes you laugh. I filled in where the laugh track was removed. Ross is ridiculous 😂
Without the laugh track I actually found this scene HILARIOUS.
I would seriously try and watch this show if someone removed the laugh track.
0:09 it's funny how did he entered the room.. 😂😂
I'm ironically finding myself laughing harder at this than with the laugh track.
Without a laugh track it becomes It's Always Sunny in New York City.
gives it a office kind of vibe, and i liked it lmao
It's actually funnier without the laugh track
Ross is a straight up psychopath! Jeez!
Btw, can we all appreciate how good the editing is in this video? There was literally not a single laugh track heard once. Not even by a smidge. Usually when I see one of these videos, I could hear a little laughing in the back but at lower volume. This time it was completely absent.
Good job to the editor!
I heard subtle laughs here and there.
Really makes you realize how weird and creepy it would be to film a show like this, unless they play the laugh track while they're filming
His face when he says “yes, that’s right” had me wheezing
Rachel being Ross’ ex-wife, along with Phoebe having her brother’s babies, can be listed as “things that made things more awkward than it should’ve been” 🤣
Man, this is very good writing! It's not infuriating at all when people say this is the best sitcom of all time!
