Bushcamp - Rain Water Collection System, Ramcharger Revival, Making Rain Barrels From Garbage Cans

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
  • In this episode we installed a rainwater collection system on the Offgrid Cabin. We placed the gutters and downspout and then made rain barrels out of garbage cans to collect and hold the water to use at camp. We also got the dirty ol ramcharger going which was a blast for sure!
    Join my dog and I at our wilderness homestead in the Canadian North. This channel features videos on off-the-grid lifestyle and building, trapline adventures, hunting, fishing, trucks and much more!
    I live off the land in a self reliant and self sufficient lifestyle. The land provides me with everything I need. My offgrid cabin is solar powered, heated by a wood stove and most everything I eat comes from the land; fish, eggs from my chickens, and many different wild game species. The lifestyle I live is essentially expense free and blesses me with the opportunity to do whatever I please.
    In the winter months we head out on the trapline and ethically harvest fur bearing animals. Through moderate and sustainable methods I snare and trap these animals and work on, and sell the pelts at auction which provides a decent income for me to invest in my off the grid homestead and lifestyle.

    Looking good there. Great to see that water system up and hope you get some rain while you are away from camp. Love the older cars, they last and last. My 84' has been across the states about 6 times, pretty certain they run on love. Never had to replace nothing but the timing belt recently and when I did it was missing more teeth than an ugly cousin and she still got me another 1000 miles to get home and didn't crap out till I go right in town where I could get her repaired.
    Once they started putting computers in them and making them out of rain gutters and old beer cans, shit went down hill. About being positive, man I wish I figured that shit out long ago like you did. No truer words, be happy for what ya got and change it if you don't.

    Please don’t heat any food in it’s own can. Almost all tin food cans are plastic epoxy lined to prevent rust, and prolong shelf life. If you notice, cans are most often white or copper colored inside. That’s the epoxy you’re melting and eating with your beans, or soups, or whatever. Uncoated cans ended decades ago. Also, you need a way to filter birdshit out of your water. If you wait til you take a bucketful, then filter it through a screen, you’ll be drinking from a barrel of birdshit soup.

    I love it. One thing to do with the rain barrels is add an overflow pipe. When they're full, that water will leak right next to the house, but if you add some hose near the top, extending maybe a few meters away from the cabin, it'll be golden. I'm excited to see future videos when you prop the cans up higher and make more alterations to everything.

  • @dinosworkinonit3563
    @dinosworkinonit3563 4 роки тому +3

    You can buy a downspout adapter that changes the position of the downspout so it will run down the back edge of the house. Why you could even connect the two downspouts to meet in the middle of the house back wall then run into a single barrel, or have 2 barrels connected for in case of overflow if the first barrel is full.

    Another great video! I think you might need a bigger barrel or more of them. One side of my roof is about 4 times the size of one side of your roof, and I can fill a 210 liter barrel in 15 minutes in heavy rain, around one hour in light rain. And it looks like you get more rain than I do in average.
    Love your channel!

    Those little spigots would be nice for a garden hose for a small garden plot or even for a quick wash off when the water is warm.

    Hey man, so much entertainment - from you sitting and chatting, to the action. Will you be doing more fishing videos? the one recently where you pulled fish out of the lake and ate them about 10 mins later was SWEET. Thanks for entertaining us!

      Yeah, and a rake would help to clean up the scraps. It looks pretty rough
