Casual fans, this is Nancy’s “first” song, as written by her, singing lead in Heart. I feel like we’re getting a real slice of introspective young Nancy’s soul here, as with the next album’s Nada One (my fave Nancy song). I’d forgotten about Ann’s one harmony part with the live version. For some reason the blues harp surprised me to SEE, even though I knew it was her playing it all these years. WOW. Thank you, Fisher Bros. Can’t even tell you how much these uploads mean to me. ❤️
I was 14 y.o. when this album came out...was already in love with Heart (D.A.). This song was such a beautiful surprise...and I LOVE Ann's harmonies in the live version...kinda wish she did it on the album version... it just adds that much more emotional resonance to the song... but the album version is gorgeous... then. when I heard Nada One I realized Nancy was such a powerful emotional presence in the band. The way Nada One melds into Mistral Wind...that sense of emptiness and longing.... Genius. And they (the entire band) were only in their 20s!!!!! ❤️
Yes, but just to specify that it is the first song written solely by her. Let's remember that she is a co-writer on most of the band's songs, since Dreamboat Annie. And according to Roger Fisher, she showed it to him the second time they sat down to play guitar, so we can assume she wrote it before joining Heart.
I have great respect for Nancy Wilson because not only did she compose one of the most difficult acoustic intros of all time (crazy on you). But she wrote and sang this beautiful song(Treat me well) and sang on "these Dreams." Respect.
Nancy doing her own thing, inside Heart. I love it, like I love her solo album "You and Me." I love Heart, but I must confess that I also love Nancy Wilson as an independent artist. I enjoy even her compositions for films. There is something about her music that reveals a beautiful, dreamy soul.
I am super happy that Roger is putting out these live videos. Each of this lineup's live performances is when one truly understands how extremely talented this lineup were and was lightning in a bottle together. Perfection. And even the name "Heart" in my opinion is the best name for a music group, too.
Never ever thought I'd see a live performance of this song. This is great! Sounds like there is a keyboard of some sort playing along with the acoustic guitar.
I read Ann and Nancy’s book, kicking and dreaming- Nancy admits she never loved Roger. It was a relationship of convenience. She dumped Roger for Derosier, who she did love. He did not love her though. Nancy stated Roger was unfaithful on more than one occasion. Being a rock star and being over sexed is costly. Roger had left a wife and child right before he got with Nancy, who resisted his advances for quite some time before giving in. It was a relationship that never should have been. Nancy doesn’t seem to have bitter feelings towards Roger, she spoke favorably of him as a musician. She just never loved him and moved on with her life.
Sounds like they have a Chorus effect on Ann's vocals, along with her acoustic. One of my all time favorite ballads from Heart. Simply beautiful timeless song.
Superb. A bazillion tons has been written about this gal, all deserved 😊⭐Interesting lil effect on the mic ..idk hm was intentional, or if the setup and/or recording tech..but it's cool and i mean, wow..such a time capsule! I thank the makers of great music: Heart, Fleetwood Mac.. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers for helping melt my heart in the 80's & help me feel! God bless all ya'll. P.S. Frozen 2. "Huh?" Ya'll ask? Lol. There a song in there, sung by Anna (Kristen Bell) and it is one of the best songs the past few decades. No one does good ballads much anymore. This is one: "Do the next right thing"
The sisters have the most beautiful harmonies but here Nancy showcases her undeniable talent and lovely voice, any band would have been lucky to snap her up as lead. But of course, Ann had to be lead with her natural and unnatural vocals. This just illustrates the depth of talent the band had as individuals and as a whole... wonderful!
I'm utterly gobsmacked!!! I was just recently saying there is just NOT ENOUGH live footage of Heart and BAM!!...here you are and here I am and let the way back machine begin!..ty sir...ty!!!!🙏
I still remember the Ovation guitars advertising poster in my local music store with Nancy and that guitar. They never did have one in blue for sale there. Those old posters are worth about as much as those guitars cost when they first came out!
Yes and if I'm not mistaken that's an Ovation Adamas which featured a carbon graphite top. Gives an interesting sound with more projection, I've got a 12-string Melissa Etheridge model. Don't really see Nancy with Ovations any more...she seems to be mostly Martin now. Of course she had a long run with Takamine too.
@@Katerina9256 Ovation sold to Fender years ago and then to DM Drum and somewhere along the way the sponsorship ended with Nancy. I've got a Celebrity version Ovation but I still want one of those early powder blue adamas models with the fuller back and no cutout.
@@tenlittleindians She's apparently got that thing in storage somewhere in Seattle...I always lusted after that one too. Back in the early 80s I did aquire a beautiful Elite model with the same sound hole cutouts that I will never part with. My brother has a blue Celebrity that plays really well, I like it a lot. Some people hate Ovation but I was attracted to them even before I found out that's what Nancy was playing back then. Of course it was cool to find out she liked them too😄
@@Katerina9256 I've always been attracted to their treble heavy edge over most guitars. And I love blue and things that are different. I still think those forked headstocks Kramer had out about the same time were also cool. Those seem rarer today than a powder blue adamas!
I think I have that poster. It's a picture of her with, of course, her Ovation Adamas with this caption, "Rock and Nancy Wilson and Ovation. Triumphant as a top female rock guitarist, Nancy Wilson of HEART creates a soothing acoustic blend. And you'll notice she rarely parts with her Adamas guitar." It's dated from 1978. Unfortunately, it's not in mint condition anymore. :(
I will echo what has been said by many in the Comment sections in all these uploads, that it has been emotionally overwhelming experience to see/hear the band coming to the musical/artistic peak with such love, hope, and friendship. It was a "gift" to see a live version of this sweet song. Nada One, is not only my favorite Nancy Wilson--it is my favorite song period! A song that is woven inextricably into the magical second side of Dog and Butterfly. I listen to everything from Sinatra to Slayer, but Nada One is a song that seems to be written from a place for a place that exists outside this realm. The kindness and wisdom that is omnipresent in presenting/sharing these lost gems does not go unnoticed. Thank you Roger and Mike for sharing your love, kindness, and gratitude in these beautiful, historical gems of musical genius.
Thanks so much for sharing this! I was only 12-yrs-old when I got to see this tour, and I fell in love hard with the band. Although I was already obsessed with the albums, seeing the band live was a whole different experience. Nancy was someone I felt I could identify with a little bit, and as a musician she would remain someone I could aspire to be like. I loved Roger & Nancy's musical chemistry and am so glad I got to see those classic days. Congrats on being inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!
Remember that you guys had a video of the song, Tell it Like It Is, it was filmed in high school gym , Iknow that you had recorded the album in Vancouver, Mushroom Studios, u am wondering what high school it was filmed at. I think it’s from Bebe le Strange.
I know right!? If she ever does a solo tour to promote her new album, I hope she'll perform some of her older originals instead of just These Dreams and a few covers. I'd love to hear her sing Nada One and One Word live. "These Dreams" might never come true but I'm glad we've got this version of Treat Me Well to enjoy!
@@sabasufyana I’d pay to hear Nancy play “Nada One”, and play it for real, with confidence, all the way thru, and with an orchestra, without any self depreciating aww shucks giggle and dropping it after thirty seconds (because she’s humble and I imagine she would do that) . One Word also, altho at least we know what it would be like from “Beautiful Broken”, and I’ll take PA version.
2:17-2:19, ok, so Ann, in the dark, also strums an acoustic ..carries it while Nancy plays her blues harp. Wow. Kinda like Ann strummed an acoustic during Raised On You.
Hmm...I think that would be Howard because the lead line being played is a bit more intricate and requires more than just strumming. Then sounds like Roger coming in with a brief lead line....then if that WAS Howard he goes right back to manning the keys/synth. Did you see him doing double time on...oh now I forget which song it was that Roger just uploaded the other day, but Howard was on guitar for a bit then flipped it behind his back while switching to synthesizer/keyboard...then right back to guitar😄 I'm guessing it was Magic Man but I'd have to check. These people are so multitalented!
This song makes me think of a cool starlit night sitting around a campfire. A few guitars, a banjo, two microphones and a tambourine. Kind of like a hootenanny. People are dancing, happy, having a good time. Are we there yet?! - kimie :)
Some UA-cam videos suggest one guitar part that tries to combine the _two_ guitar parts in one. They miss the fact that the dissonant chords (played here by Nancy) are their own part. You just can’t play it all on one guitar.
Nancy's voice was always so underrated. Doesn't have the power of Ann's voice but is very pleasant to the ears.
Who could keep up with Ann? Nancy picks (Guitar, Piano) out beautiful arrangements like this, her singing, writing style are sexy.
Casual fans, this is Nancy’s “first” song, as written by her, singing lead in Heart. I feel fortunate to have seen Nancy sing this song live in Seattle, also in '77.

That's what I just told myself.
Same. It's a deep cut.
One of my favorite deep cuts from Little Queen. Roger you were truly blessed to have Nancy’s love & affection if only for awhile!
