Wonderful photography. The chicks grew up & begain to fly.It could not be understood what they were eating in the field. You have taken a great effort to make this video. Thank you very much.
Thank you for your great footage. The nature is so hard. The smallest chick got smallest food than their bro/sis. And the mother bird priority gave food to the bigger chick.
Did that little one hatch many days after his siblings ?. Mom still wanted to brood it 💓 but could not follow the feeding. Baby had NO chances, was finally mistaken as a prey 😮😢. But the three youngsters shrived so well. Fabulous footage 👍. Marsh Harriers not seen often. Thank you 👌
@@stellviahohenheim I agree with you. Wild critters have no pity for the weak ones 😢. If they could be helped just few days they would grow wonderfully like the others 😮
Most of us definitely paid attention to the little chick and it is sad to see it perish. The film crew could definitely lend a helping hand but sometimes it is best to let nature run its course.
When I watch baby birds of prey eat, I always feel that the bigger chicks tend to monopolize the food. The parent birds are not as well distributed as the small birds.
It's not the parents that are not well distributed, it's the food that's not well distributed. They do not distribute the feed equally. The smaller chicks were hatched last, sometimes as many as 5 or 6 days, that's why they're smaller. The most aggressive chick(s) get the most food. Quite often, the smaller chicks don't survive. The nesting stage always has a high mortality rate, for all birds. Note that one of the larger chicks is already pecking at the small one This will likely escalate. @9:00 fully grown and still fighting over food.
So true always laying beneath his siblings to stay warm. I guess the older they got more food was needed for the bigger ones, they had to oust him.RIP little one or should I say I hope your lil brother tasted good .🤨😥😥😖😩
The little one was an egg that was laid later than the others and when hatched had a disadvantage as the other ones were born earlier and were larger. Sad, but that is nature. Barn owls are notorious for this, laying a lot of eggs at different times and some are smaller than others due to hatching later.
@@andreabelinda1355 No the little one didn't make it. The older ones ate him. The people filming this refused all pleas to help him. They used the time honored words "It's nature and we can't interfere". Bunch if BS if you ask a,you true wildlife lover. Sorry !
They hatch at different times so that the small one is used as sacrifice just in case it was a bad year and food is scarce....the strongest chicks can just eat the small one...its sad but thats what happens when times are hard. IT is so easy to judge when we are humans who have an abundance at every turn and command.
She's a good mother keeping them warm looking out for danger where is her mate. If it's only her doing the feeding she's doing a great job. Thanks for the video 😁✌
Look again, there's one big, speckled bird and one smaller, grey one. The speckled one is the mother, the other the father, provided there's not more taking care of the eggs which can happen at least in northern harriers.
I think the mother has no sense to feed the babies. One baby become weak the carelessness of her mother and I think died. It is so sad. Your video of western marsh harrier is so wonderful and beauteous. I liked it so much and enjoyed.

Both. Last one to hatch often has to compete with FAR larger siblings who have already been eating/growing for days. Then its larger siblings keep snatching all the food. So the problem compounds itself and the youngest one starves to death
Dr Jamshaid Iqbal he probably died or someone rescued him to give him a chance to live. His parents weren’t feeding him because they knew that he is the weakest, you can see how small is he by his siblings
Hi I really enjoyed the footage. I am a raptor enthusiast and loved seeing a bird that nests in this type of nest. I am really curious what happened to the fourth chick? It was days younger than the rest that was really interesting I can’t help but wonder if it was preyed upon and taken or if somehow the other young mistook it?? If you know the answer or have any idea as to what happened to the 4th smaller one I would really like to find out for personal understanding of the species.
