I really liked this detailed video but I wished that it was in slow motion but its just what I needed to find to change out my starter on my Sable without paying alot out of pocket and no time to sit and wait until a mechanic gets around to it. Much appreciated! :)
I have done it at least 50 starters on Tauruses and Stables of every year and I have never ever removed the battery tray and certainly never remove the exhaust. I don't know what you're doing but you have just cost yourself a whole lot of work and everybody else was watching this video. all you have to do is remove the Shroud from the bottom of the car where it meets the front bumper and you will have plenty of access to remove the starter and all Sables with a dual overhead cam, just some friendly advice.
No problem and no offence taken. As it states in the description; NOTE! You DO NOT have to remove the battery and the plate the battery sits on, do remove the negative and the positive terminal. I did it so I could record the bolt removal from above! There's a good chance you won't have to remove the exhaust to make room for the removal of the starter. I did because there wasn't room for me to remove the starter without loosening the exhaust system on this particular car. I've done a lot of starters too on various vehicles. This one was done this way for video purposes and for some reason I had to loosen up the exhaust for removal. Murphys Law, Let's make a simple video and something had to get in my way of removing the starter that shouldn't have happened. LOL
Hey, just did this on my 2004 Mercury Sable station wagon, and this video was a good bit of help. On my model though, I think the starter was in a slightly different place so i didn't really need to remove the battery tray, and I didn't need to remove the exhaust at all (a bit of a tight fit, but I could get to everything and get it out without removing anything else. If anyone else is trying to do with on one of the other engine types of this car, check first, you may be able to get everything without removing all the things here.
I removed the battery tray for visual purposes to show what goes on underneath. The removal of the exhaust system was necessary on this vehicle for some odd reason, usually you don't have to remove the exhaust., I tried previously and there was no way for me to drop the starter otherwise. Glad the video was helpful.
Ok, that's a good point. Hopefully, things will go well and I can get this done this weekend without too much trouble. Much appreciated video and I'm glad I found it and that you put it on here!
Sorry about having it too fast for you, but if I did show it any slower I felt it would lose the interest of the viewers. Glad it helped you out and you were able to safely replace your starter and save some money.
Actually dropping the front pipe out was necessary on this vehicle. If I didn't the starter wouldn't come through the hole. Tried it without removing the exhaust pipe previously and the starter wouldn't drop.
Things like the battery tray was removed so it could be recorded from the top side and unfortunately on this car the exhaust for some reason was blocking the access for removal, which in most cases isn't an issue. In most cars and trucks you don't have to remove anything. Good job on your starter replacement.
San Angelo Dash Cam say my man I got a 2003 sable but thanks to Harvey the car won't start now my pops says it can be starters I just need your opinion to if it is or not, P.s the transmission doesn't wanna catch even on Drive or Reverse it stays like if it's on neutral.
+Mat Leon You're right. I put this video together and forgot to point out what tools I used. Try and do your best and figure it out and good luck if you're trying to do this job.
+San Angelo Dash Cam Yes indeed! I've loosened the top bolt itself, but the positive wire that's connected to it, turns with the bolt as I, turn it, and wraps itself around the bolt. Smh.. I'll take another shot at it, soon. To add fuel to the fire, I was sent the wrong starter so now, I'll have to wait for the right starter to arrive.

@@TheBlaminator actually I slide them out through the driver side wheel well super easy.
If you read the video it's that you don't have to remove the battery or drop exhaust system is just something I had to do with this vehicle
@@TheBlaminator whatever works for you

It's like watching a horror movie LOL
😆 I agree

I have a 2003 mercury sable v6 and put new starter in and never had to remove anything to access starter

what tools? that would've been helpful

Help! I am a single mom and cant afford to take in to the shop. It is mis firing and needs a tune up, but I cannot find the plugs
The back 3 plugs are changed by removing the intake manifold for access.
I removed everything else, except the exhaust, and the 2 bolts holding the starter, itself. The top bolt is a real pain, to move!
Good job! Yeah, sometimes it's easy and sometimes it can be a pain.
+San Angelo Dash Cam Yes indeed! I've loosened the top bolt itself, but the positive wire that's connected to it, turns with the bolt as I, turn it, and wraps itself around the bolt. Smh.. I totally understand your frustration. Been there too. Take your time and remain sane (something i've learned the hard way) and good luck.
+San Angelo Dash Cam 'Remaining Sane' definitely is a good way to put it! LOL.. Thanks man.. 👍
You're welcome
