This video is suited all levels of cross country skier and for more information see this blog post- keithnicol.blog... Thanks to our sponsors Auclair gloves and Infinity Ski Poles.
Thanks for all the tips! I just came back from my first skiing lesson and I fell about 20 times in 3 hours...
I'll go back with all these tips in mind and try again when my legs and arms stop hurting so much
Let me know how you make out.
Hello Keith: Just popped in here after watching this video; as always great tips; OK less than a month ago I skated for the first time the American Birkiebeiner in Cable, WI...........they had to "make" 6 km of snow in order to pull off they're 50th Anniversary event but they did a tremendous job securing a 10k loop which as a novice we all did 3 times for 30k...........my main issue Keith was I lacked the endurance to tackle the hills they created and although I finished I ran out of gas a few times.....lol...........despite the fact that we all faced here in Eastern Canada a lackluster Winter so my actual on-snow training was way behind compared to 22/23........not to mention the temps were above freezing so we all overheated.........anyway..........any tips you can share for next years 50k long distance event will be greatly appreciated.........thanks,David
Thank you for very clear and helpful explanation
Hope it helps with your skiing
Where have you been all my (cross country skiing) life!! Took lessons & came back after years away - feel soooo clumsy. Hoping your drills & tips will help me find control again!
Hope the videos help
Great video Keith that I will utilize in my skiing and teaching. Watching you demo the wrong ways to do it is both useful and entertaining Its fun to play the comedian a little bit so the students having some fun as they learn. cheers Bruce Saskatoon
Thanks for the note...let me know how it works
Thanks. These are great tips in a great short, concise format.
Thanks for the note. Appreciated.
Great tips, thanks!
Nice. I notice you are not just flexing at your ankles and knees, but also proportionally at your waist, so that your spine is essentially parallel to your lower legs (calves). See 0:49 in your video. That places your center of mass close to the fore-aft middle of your feet, giving you nice fore and aft balance. If you were not flexed at the waist, leaving your back/spine upright, your center of mass would be more over your heels - tipping you backwards again, just like an upright skier. Another very nice and helpful video. Thank you.
You are right about the angles . You want all joints flexed.
Excellent points! We;ll try these with out 11-year old, who is improving after several winters on classic skis, but he is a bit to stiff on (slight) hills.
Kids love jumping so this should work for your 11 year old.
Nice 👍
I will try this drill today!
