Short tale was told about Wukong being sealed in a stone statue, then a drunken immortal and a wukong clone disguised as a monk (Jet Li and Jackie Chan) go on a journey to return the staff to the statue, free the sealed monkey king, and the clone becomes whole with his original body. This is the only form of media I’ve watched that tells it’s version of what might’ve happened after Journey to the West but I’m sure there are more I’ve never heard of!

Jackie Chan and Jet Li being in the same movie was crazy. Jet Li was actually really cool as Wukong. I made the connection when I saw some scenes play out in the game. Seemed very familiar.

Jackie Chan was literally narrating it “So the legend was told, the Monkey King began his journey to the west in search of Truth while the Traveler return to his world to walk the path of warrior” This means that the Monkey king only journeyed to the west after Jason returned to his world. It’s still unclear where in the timeline Black Myth Wukong takes place but it’s definitely after the heavenly war.
Spoilers…… The ending of this game shows the Destined One becoming the New Wukong but still stuck in the stone. It definitely takes place after the end of JTTW because even the intro shows Wukong with the crown already. The ending seems to imply that Wukong has transcended into something more than just the Monkey King but an Idea. The Idea of living your life free and fighting those who would suppressed you. So even if the Destined One is to perish, another one will always show up to take on the mantle. Son Wukong has transcended like the Buddha itself or in JTTW case, he found his Truth.
Bull Demon King sounded extremely sad when Red Boy killed himself at 15:39 , i guess even if he knows his boy gets in the wrong way, Bull Demon King still loves Red Boy as his son...what a tragic end to a family...
For those confused the red boy is not Nezha. He is the son of the Bull King. Nezha is most like with the Celestial Court which was only shown in the intro. This takes place after JTTW but with a dark twist that seems like the Heavens screwed over everyone after Son Wukongs defeat. Hopefully the next game will have us going against the Celestial Court to set the world back correctly.
@@tc-channelhobby4051 Well you see, they do not hate WuKong for no reason. The Monkey King wrecked the heaven because he was given the lowest ranking in Celestial Court which he demanded higher. He then ate and drank all the peaches and potion of immortality nurtured by the Queen Mother of the Wet (Jade Emperor's Wife) that was meant for other prestigious gods. Given all the havoc he made unreasonably, the court surely hated him for his deeds.

As a result, Sun Wukong was defeated and imprisoned under the Five Elements Mountain for 500 years before embarking on the journey to the West to retrieve the scriptures. Before dying, Sun Wukong warns the Bull King not to absorb anything from his corpse because he knows that the protagonist (Destined One) will appear and deal with all the yaoguai who took Sun Wukong's relics. The Bull King might have realized the truth, so instead of absorbing the relic, he hides it within his body.
Let me explain the meaning of ending animation as my understanding. Bull demon king has a tragic life made by many his wrong decisions. In early of the novel, Journey to the West. Bull demon king and Wukong, 2 strongest demon king were sworn brothers,.And, when Wukong wanted to take rebellion against heaven, Bull demon king actively supported him to fight against celestial court, but they were totally defeated. While Wukong was pressed under 5 fingers mountain for 500 years, Celestials had another plan for Bull demon king by forcing his wife to drink water in the river that makes women pregnant. Thus, Red kid was born but not as their will, so Bull demon king mentally collapsed and left his family to have another one with a Fox Yaoquai and had a little daughter as the video game. In the middle of the novel, Red kid was a difficult challenge that almost took Wukong's life, but he was defeated and served Lady Buddha. This made both Bull demon King and his wife, Iron fan lady felt angry, so they refused to lend the iron fan which can turn off flames on HuoYan mountain. Because Bull demon King is very strong, even may be stronger than Wukong, so this monkey ask celestial court for help to pass through that mountain. Bull demon king was defeated and had to serve the celestial court, that Wukon refuse after Journey to the West. After Journey to the West or in the beginning of the game, Wukong realized that he wouldn't never be freed from serving celestial court leading to his second rebellion. Bull demon King chosen to fight at the side of heaven. When Wukon was defeated for the second time, his soul and power were divided into 6 parts, and Ox demon king was asked to keep one, but Wukong did warn him to avoid taking it his last breath due to tragedy he might take after, but Bull demon king still keeps it until this scene. In this scene, Bull demon king has been immobilized and tortured by Red boy for such a long time because Red boy want to take power of Wukong to make him stronger for his rebellion. And the next is what we see on screen.

@Cyberium Eh, I personally think "Red Boy" is a pretty good translation for "Hong Hai'er". It's short, smooth & is still pretty accurate, without sounding needlessly repetitive like say the more literal translation, "Red Child-Boy"...

I am not playing a game; it is a movie I am playing, a tragic movie. I was so touched by the sad story, not just this one, also the brother Pig and his spider bride. I have to say the cartoon was really great, and some youtubers are crying when they play it in on broadcast.

@@mond2440 This seems to be intentional by the devs. They've said that they wanted to keep the game accessible. And you can see that the bosses could all be much harder if they just tweaked two parameters - attack speed and damage. Both seem low, but could be much higher with no new animation work. They seem to have been intentionally kept low.
Okay, 3 minutes in... What HAPPENED to Red Boy & Bull Monster-King's relationship?! In the Novel, Red Boy respected & loved his father + Guanyin's teaching after he was subdued! Unless it's a similar case to what happened with Black Wind Bear in this Game, where Red Boy went rouge or just took the wrong lessons from her... Edit: Wow! Just... WOW!! I mean Hong Hai'er (Red Boy) just freakin' KILLED himself (Oh & turns out he's a Yaksha), Niu Mowang (Bull Monster-King) is clearly on the brink of death & Yang Jian (Erlang Shen) really decided to team up with several Yaoguai Villains from the Novel to take out & finish Sun Wukong!
He was took in by guanyin,he might be corrupted to do the will of heaven. Seem like heaven fear it's authority being threatened by wukong. So they don't mind doing some dirty work to keep the power
They should make Red Boy move faster in his second phase. I mean, he just tricked everyone with a death talisman and obtained a really power boost that was hidden inside Bull Demon King's stomach. He should be like a speed demon that cut Wukong in the blink of an eye. He also looks cool af. This boss should be hard. I understand why the game makes this boss and every other boss easy because they don't want to frustrate the players.
Yeah, and especially with 'Pigsy's' help, they could've made 'Yaksha-King Red Boy' more unrelenting. I wish there was a speed-setting for boss-fights; The Final trailer displayed a far more faster combat (most noticeable with Scorpion-boss' tail-attack)....🤷♂️Eh. I didn't expect this game to be perfection, anyways.
Not pissing the players off is hurting the performance of games. Devs didn't give a shit about that in the earlier game system years. Some bosses are supposed to be difficult. It's a testament of skill to even pass them.

I don't regret the pre-order and so far I'm taking my time playing it and it is indeed not a Souls-like since there was no consequences if you fallen, your items or currency won't drop as well so every time you fall you are also farming XP in the process. The Wondering Withe (Baby-like Monk) was not supposed to be defeated early as well and you need to get your staff from a Wolf first.
@nycxtile Honestly, It kinda quickly grew on me... I was bit off putted at first, like my 1st reaction was literally, "Wait, Hong Hai'er?! Why do you look like an ACTUAL Demon?!" but after looking at it closely for a bit, I can honestly see what the devs were going for! I especially like the design of Red Boy's 18ft Long Fire-Tipped Lance & the nice little detail of having his feet be literal bull hooves, because you know... his dad's a LITERAL Bull/Ox!

Later the heavenly court forced Sun Wukong to help a monk to get scriptures at the cost of the lives of all the monsters. At the same time, it wanted to Sun wukong and monsters, especially bull monsters king these very powerful monsters. So Heaven used some means to make Princess Iron Fan drink the water of the Zimu River (which can make women pregnant) and give birth to Red Child. Let bull monsters king misunderstand that Princess Iron Fan gave birth to Red Child with other people, so that the relationship between Princess Iron Fan and bull monsters king became worse. Considering the novel itself was written and published in the 16th century, it makes sense that Russia was considered part of the journey to the west.
@@ucthinhle5413 yes. “Iron Fan Princess” is her title. But as the other comment pointed out, she’s also known as “罗刹女”. “罗刹(Luó Chà)” was the Chinese name for Russia in the 16th century. Some scholars might argue that this is a Sanskrit term (hence the transition “Raksha”). Whether the original novel was referring to “Russia” in a 16th century Ming dynasty context or the Sanskrit term in a 7th century Tang dynasty context is not verifiable. Thus this term can be openly interpreted as “the Russian lady/princess.”
Destined as a yaoguai, they have no choices. Just look at Wukong as example, even Bull Demon King not involve Wukong's rebellion, the celestial court would not leave him be, as others great yaoguai. there is huge difference of timing between heaven and lower realms. I think its 1:365000, so for gods or buddha, their pets or rides are just missing for 1 day, but in the lower realms, its 1 thousand years already.

Later, bull demon King’s wife drank the water of the Mother and Child River and gave birth to Red Boy. Bull Demon King thought he was cheated, and he was at odds with his wife, refused to recognize Red Boy, and found a lover, Jade-faced Fox. After Monkey King finished his mission and was named Fighting Buddha, he was not free, and rebelled against Heaven again. In order to protect Bull Demon King from revenge of heaven, Monkey King deliberately beat Bull Head Brother, took away the fan, and gave Red Boy to Guanyin (into the team). But Wukong fight against with Yang Jian and all the monsters he had fought during the journey to the West alone. When Monkey King died, Bull Demon King suddenly realized that Monkey King had done everything to protect his brothers from the same fate as himself. Whats funny is that if not for the crown that was giving him immeasurable pain wukong would have defeated them all even though it would be very hard since this is prime wukong with all his power like clones , his 72 transformation/abilities and other stuff like he was before he got imprisoned by the buddha for 500 years and with redboy wanting to take one of wukong relics to take down gods is the proof of it

Jackie Chan and Jet Li being in the same movie was crazy. Jet Li was actually really cool as Wukong. I made the connection when I saw some scenes play out in the game. Seemed very familiar.

This means that the Monkey king only journeyed to the west after Jason returned to his world. It’s still unclear where in the timeline Black Myth Wukong takes place but it’s definitely after the heavenly war.

The ending of this game shows the Destined One becoming the New Wukong but still stuck in the stone. It definitely takes place after the end of JTTW because even the intro shows Wukong with the crown already. The ending seems to imply that Wukong has transcended into something more than just the Monkey King but an Idea. The Idea of living your life free and fighting those who would suppressed you. So even if the Destined One is to perish, another one will always show up to take on the mantle. Son Wukong has transcended like the Buddha itself or in JTTW case, he found his Truth.
Bull Demon King sounded extremely sad when Red Boy killed himself at 15:39 , i guess even if he knows his boy gets in the wrong way, Bull Demon King still loves Red Boy as his son...what a tragic end to a family...

For those confused the red boy is not Nezha. He is the son of the Bull King. Nezha is most like with the Celestial Court which was only shown in the intro. This takes place after JTTW but with a dark twist that seems like the Heavens screwed over everyone after Son Wukongs defeat.
Hopefully the next game will have us going against the Celestial Court to set the world back correctly.

He then ate and drank all the peaches and potion of immortality nurtured by the Queen Mother of the Wet (Jade Emperor's Wife) that was meant for other prestigious gods. Given all the havoc he made unreasonably, the court surely hated him for his deeds.

Sun Wukong has many sworn brothers, one of whom is the Bull King. The Bull King is one of the most powerful yaoguai king in the original story (many yaoguai rely on supernatural powers or magical artifacts and aren't necessarily very strong themselves, such as Red Boy, who can't defeat Sun Wukong in combat but his True Fire of Samadhi causes a lot of trouble for him). However, when Sun Wukong wreaked havoc in Heaven, none of his sworn brothers came to help, including the Bull Demon King. The original story doesn't explain why they didn't help, but in the game, it's revealed that the Bull King was persuaded by his wife, Princess Iron Fan, not to follow Sun Wukong in rebelling against Heaven. Ultimately, the Bull King chose not to help Sun Wukong for the sake of his family. As a result, Sun Wukong was defeated and imprisoned under the Five Elements Mountain for 500 years before embarking on the journey to the West to retrieve the scriptures.
The second part of the storyline takes place during the Journey to the West. When Sun Wukong and his companions arrive at Flaming Mountain, Sun Wukong intimidates the Bull King's concubine, Princess Jade Countenance (who is the mother of the little fox in the game's plot), while attempting to borrow the Banana Leaf Fan.
The Bull King learns of this and confronts Sun Wukong, questioning him about why he harmed his son, Red Boy, and bullied his concubine. Sun Wukong explains the situation and asks the Bull King to lend him the Banana Leaf Fan. The Bull King, feeling that Sun Wukong is underestimating him, becomes angry, and the two engage in a fierce battle. Despite having a slight advantage, Sun Wukong is unable to defeat the Bull King. Eventually, Sun Wukong calls upon several powerful gods for help, including Pagoda Bearer Devaraja Li Jing and Third Prince Nezha (Nezha is one of the most famous deities in China, second only to Sun Wukong). Together, they manage to defeat the Bull King.
In the game's storyline, Sun Wukong tries to persuade the Bull King not to resist. His wife, Princess Iron Fan, is willing to hand over the fan, but the Bull King refuses. He feels betrayed by Sun Wukong because his son was tricked into becoming a disciple by Guanyin, his concubine was killed by Zhu Bajie, and now his magical artifact is being taken away. Before dying, Sun Wukong warns the Bull King not to absorb anything from his corpse because he knows that the protagonist (Destined One) will appear and deal with all the yaoguai who took Sun Wukong's relics. The Bull King might have realized the truth, so instead of absorbing the relic, he hides it within his body.

Let me explain the meaning of ending animation as my understanding. Bull demon king has a tragic life made by many his wrong decisions.
In early of the novel, Journey to the West. Bull demon king and Wukong, 2 strongest demon king were sworn brothers,.And, when Wukong wanted to take rebellion against heaven, Bull demon king actively supported him to fight against celestial court, but they were totally defeated. While Wukong was pressed under 5 fingers mountain for 500 years, Celestials had another plan for Bull demon king by forcing his wife to drink water in the river that makes women pregnant. Thus, Red kid was born but not as their will, so Bull demon king mentally collapsed and left his family to have another one with a Fox Yaoquai and had a little daughter as the video game.
In the middle of the novel, Red kid was a difficult challenge that almost took Wukong's life, but he was defeated and served Lady Buddha. This made both Bull demon King and his wife, Iron fan lady felt angry, so they refused to lend the iron fan which can turn off flames on HuoYan mountain. Because Bull demon King is very strong, even may be stronger than Wukong, so this monkey ask celestial court for help to pass through that mountain. Bull demon king was defeated and had to serve the celestial court, that Wukon refuse after Journey to the West.
After Journey to the West or in the beginning of the game, Wukong realized that he wouldn't never be freed from serving celestial court leading to his second rebellion. Bull demon King chosen to fight at the side of heaven. When Wukon was defeated for the second time, his soul and power were divided into 6 parts, and Ox demon king was asked to keep one, but Wukong did warn him to avoid taking it his last breath due to tragedy he might take after, but Bull demon king still keeps it until this scene.
In this scene, Bull demon king has been immobilized and tortured by Red boy for such a long time because Red boy want to take power of Wukong to make him stronger for his rebellion. And the next is what we see on screen.

And you can see that the bosses could all be much harder if they just tweaked two parameters - attack speed and damage. Both seem low, but could be much higher with no new animation work. They seem to have been intentionally kept low.

They should make Red Boy move faster in his second phase. I mean, he just tricked everyone with a death talisman and obtained a really power boost that was hidden inside Bull Demon King's stomach. He should be like a speed demon that cut Wukong in the blink of an eye. He also looks cool af. This boss should be hard. I understand why the game makes this boss and every other boss easy because they don't want to frustrate the players.
Yeah, and especially with 'Pigsy's' help, they could've made 'Yaksha-King Red Boy' more unrelenting. I wish there was a speed-setting for boss-fights; The Final trailer displayed a far more faster combat (most noticeable with Scorpion-boss' tail-attack)....🤷♂️Eh. I didn't expect this game to be perfection, anyways.
Not pissing the players off is hurting the performance of games. Devs didn't give a shit about that in the earlier game system years. Some bosses are supposed to be difficult. It's a testament of skill to even pass them.

When the 1st trailer came out + the name of the game is Black Myth I thought we would team up with Ox King to fight the Heaven.
I don't regret the pre-order and so far I'm taking my time playing it and it is indeed not a Souls-like since there was no consequences if you fallen, your items or currency won't drop as well so every time you fall you are also farming XP in the process. The Wondering Withe (Baby-like Monk) was not supposed to be defeated early as well and you need to get your staff from a Wolf first.

@nycxtile Honestly, It kinda quickly grew on me... I was bit off putted at first, like my 1st reaction was literally, "Wait, Hong Hai'er?! Why do you look like an ACTUAL Demon?!" but after looking at it closely for a bit, I can honestly see what the devs were going for! I especially like the design of Red Boy's 18ft Long Fire-Tipped Lance & the nice little detail of having his feet be literal bull hooves, because you know... his dad's a LITERAL Bull/Ox!

Incidentally, the protagonist of this game is not the Monkey King but the Six-Eared Macaque.
The events in the novel did not take place 500years ago, they happened a very long time ago. The Jade Emperor is approximately 2.2 billion years old. He gone through a total of 1750 kalpas, with each kalpas lasting 129600 years.The author from 500 years ago compiled these myths into a complete novel.

okay red boy is ang hai ji, but i dont remember what name of lady fan, now i understand why this called black myth wukong, because all what happend in this game is after journey to west but the journey seems not happy ending, or you can say alternate story in worst timeline, wukong in this game just like successor, and they say real wukong not gain budhahood, i dont know what it mean, maybe scripture was never optain, very interesting concept
13:30 fun fact, “Rakshasi” in Chinese context means “the Russian lady.” More fun fact: the time where the Journey to West takes place is the 7th century, when there was no Russia back then (not even Kieven Rus). Considering the novel itself was written and published in the 16th century, it makes sense that Russia was considered part of the journey to the west.

there is huge difference of timing between heaven and lower realms. I think its 1:365000, so for gods or buddha, their pets or rides are just missing for 1 day, but in the lower realms, its 1 thousand years already.

Whats funny is that if not for the crown that was giving him immeasurable pain wukong would have defeated them all even though it would be very hard since this is prime wukong with all his power like clones , his 72 transformation/abilities and other stuff like he was before he got imprisoned by the buddha for 500 years and with redboy wanting to take one of wukong relics to take down gods is the proof of it
