The Bull Demon King, a powerful figure in yaoguai, who once was a good friend of Sun WuKong, had his family broken up and his wife separated from him just because of this. However, her transformation fits well with the metaphor of "love drives a woman crazy".

That's why the big call back to skeleton demon in the ending animation.
