    Great question and something I didn't mention. There is a simple two wire contact switch on the side of the manual transmission. There is a more complicated multi wire switch on the automatic. I actually just pulled a tail light to see what color wire it was and cut it from the auto plug and spliced to the manual. Any questions just ask.

    I did something close to this. I have a 1995 3500 GMC crew cab with 8 ft bed. 4 wheel drive. I took out the 350ci and replaced it with a 427 big block from a 1974 Chevy C60. The transmission I used is a SM465 manual 4 speed from a another 1995 Chevy 1500. I also ripped out all the computer junk and stayed with a point ignition system and went with manual door lock and windows. The rear end is a GM 14 bolt from a ton and half cube van. The Front end is a Dana 77 Geared at 5.27 The transfer case is a NP 208C that came out of 1986 Chevy truck
    This beast is close to done just need to complete the body and new tires

      Are you kidding I have a tough time trying to figure out a digital camera. I still use film in my cameras. I love non computer technology. Me being on and using a computer is a big step. I don't even own a cell phone. So me doing a digital video is like 10 years in the future for me. Give me a movie camera with crank and you can have a deal. You figure out how to get it on the Internet.

    I know this was a long time ago but I’m hoping you might can help
    One-can you take the transfer case off the automatic 97 transmission and use it (I believe it’s a 4l60-e ) on the Chevy 5 speed
    But my main issue is my truck is a 96 extended cab 1500 4x4 but came with a 4.3 with a 5 speed before I got the truck the 4.3 5 speed was pulled and my father in law took a 97 350 vortec with the 4l60-E and put it in and now the trucks just awful it takes off in I’m guessing 3rd shifts to Drive and never does go in OD I tried putting a 97 dash and harness in it but I couldn’t get the main plugs to work. So my plan is just put back a 5 speed. Because of the shifting my odometer don’t work trip or reverse lights but idk which one I use I have a nv4500 but it was 2WD so idk if I needa find another one or what. It seems you know what your doing. I’m just stumped. Please help! Lol if you can

      Shane, the 4L60E will not shift because the factory ECU came from a manual transmission truck so it will not control the shifting on the automatic. Where is the transfer case that came behind the original 4.3 5 speed transmission?

      It will work but I would run a T56 instead. The NV3500 wouldn't handle the 6.0 for long! If you do run the NV you'll need to buy a clutch and flywheel from a truck with the 4.8L LS because the 6.0 wasn't offered with a manual trans in the trucks as far as I know.

    I'm going to get parts in the morning to do this swap. I have a 92 regular cab short bed k1500 auto. I am tired of the 700r4 trans and the problems I have had with them. What do I need to get off of this truck in the morning. I know I need the transmission, the transfer case, the front drive shaft. The threw the floor boot, the master cylinder, the pedal assembly. What else will I need?

    • @omoffroad
      @omoffroad  7 років тому

      You'll need the clutch and flywheel as well but honestly I would spend the money for a new clutch and flywheel. You are going to have to install a pilot shaft bearing in the end of your crankshaft to support the input shaft on the manual trans. Not difficult or expensive but you must install one. You'll need a little patience to remove the pedal assembly it takes time but not a terrible job.

    • @StevenRathburn
      @StevenRathburn 7 років тому

      omoffroad Any special tools required to disassemble the pedal assembly? Also I have a question about this trans. Are they rebuildable. The gentleman who has the truck says it will not go into gear and thinks it's could be the clutch. But he isn't sure. The truck had been wrecked and he bought it to take the motor out. Said he doesn't know anything about the trans. I don't know if it's a waste to even get the trans but it's the first truck I have seen with all the parts I need and I have been looking for awhile. Any advice?

    • @omoffroad
      @omoffroad  7 років тому

      Steven, I don't remember needing any special tools to remove the pedal assembly just watch my other videos. One of them mentions a couple of tips for removing the pedals. The NV3500 can be rebuilt with a jig (couple of videos on here) and I actually replaced the input shaft on mine because it was worn. There were several versions of the NV3500 and the units built later on were better. Mine is out of a 2006 Sierra that had the 4.8L V8. The NV3500 isn't known for its strength or smooth shifting but I've had 3 trucks with them and never had problems. The first one was bought new in a truck with a V8 and I beat on it pretty hard from time to time. I would say if the motor is out have someone turn the input shaft while you try and shift through the gears. It should shift without any trouble. If not I'd leave it. Depending on the year and mileage it could be shot. These transmissions use ATF and people have been known to put gear oil in them resulting in early failure. Glad to answer any questions you may have.

    • @StevenRathburn
      @StevenRathburn 7 років тому

      omoffroad Thank you so much for your help. Can you explain that process in a little more detail as far as testing the trans. The motor is already out so what do I need to do to test it? Also he says I can have everything that I need to convert mine to a manual for $450 and he is letting me have the radiator and transfer case and some oil cooler lines I needed. Is this a decent deal or do I need to move on if the trans is no good?

    • @omoffroad
      @omoffroad  7 років тому

      I think $450.00 is very fair if you're getting everything you need including the transfer case. As far as testing the transmission I would try and shift it into every gear and rotate it by hand. Just listen for any strange sounds. If it shifts into every gear and the oil in it looks good chances are it's ok. What year is it and how many miles are on it? The NV3500 drain plug is a 17MM Allen by the way. You probably don't have that.

      Justin Bennett, is the clutch slave and master new? Did you bleed it? Do you have any pedal at all? I didn’t have a problem at all but I bled my clutch after installing it.

    • @justinbennett7842
      @justinbennett7842 5 років тому

      Yes everything is new, and bled many times. Pedal feels normal, but clutch wont fully disengage

      @omoffroad  5 років тому

      Justin Bennett, look through the inspection hole and see if you see the pressure plate moving. There’s no adjustment so I’m not sure what is going on... only other thing is the clutch disk goes on a certain way. Should be marked “flywheel side”.

    • @omoffroad
      @omoffroad  5 років тому

      Justin Bennett, I’m assuming the clutch is new also, and that you bought a flywheel and clutch for your year truck?

    Hey i have a question for you, i did the same conversion on my 97 5.7 k1500, and when i press the gas it seems to stumble under roughly 1/2 pedal or more. Did you run into this issue ? Also how did you get the backup lights to work with the factory auto. Harness ? Any help is appreciated

    • @omoffroad
      @omoffroad  5 років тому

      Justin Bennett, 2 comments down I answered the backup light issue and fix. I didn’t experience a stumble. I would check the fuel filter/ pump 1st then basic tune up items.

    • @justinbennett7842
      @justinbennett7842 5 років тому +1

      All the tune up items were done before doing the conversion, pump was replaced about 6 months prior along with filter. Guess ill have to mess around a little and see if i can figure it out, thanks for your response, and thanks for pointing me towards the comment about the backup lights

    • @omoffroad

      Justin Bennett, how long after the tune up was the truck down? Also what brand fuel pump?

    • @justinbennett7842
      @justinbennett7842 5 років тому

      @@omoffroad i did the tune up back in late 2016, and just did the conversion last month. The truck was started and idled about once a week for about 10-15 minutes each time during the time it sat. It idles and revs up fine out of gear as it is, and only seems to stumble in 1st gear. Its very strange. And i believe it was a delphi fuel pump, which was done with the tune up

      I should probably also note that i ran my codes the other day and have one for each of the upstream o2 sensor heater circuits, but i cant imagine that afftecting it. And my vehicle speed sensor on the trans isnt currently hooked up, since the trans came from a 99 and i have a 97, i bought a new sensor but havent had a chance to wire it yet. I dont know if that could be the cause

    Iv got a 99 tahoe with a 350 in it auto I got a 95 chevy truck for the 5 speed swap to go in the Tahoe u definitely answered my starting on neutral safety switch thing but wondering if. You new about the clutch flywheel lining up to get the rite flywheel for motor an if the clutch from the 95 wood fit together fine. Reason I ask is because my 95 is external slave cylinder not internal like my 98 truck I drive my 98 is more the same 350 an everything is thin the 95 but I don't want to pull my 98 apart I want to use everything out of the 95 but the flywheel I no its TBI throttle body the balance on the flywheel would be wrong for the vortec 350 but I got a new clutch kit with the 95 the only thing I cud think I'd need to get wood be flywheel i just wasn't sure if I'd have to use something different on flywheel an clutch to make it work or not

    • @omoffroad
      @omoffroad  5 років тому

      Chris Stevens,
      Is the transmission an NV3500 or NV4500? Either way You will have to get the flywheel for the 1999 350 that is in your Tahoe. You will need to check the pilot bearing shaft bearing but the clutch kit from the 1995 truck should be fine. The external slave cylinder should not be a problem as long as you can get a line made up for it.

    • @gabelossus
      @gabelossus 2 роки тому

      There's no need to with a stock 350 or especially the 4.3L V6 he's got. The NV3500 is rated for plenty more torque than that will ever put out even during burnouts. If you go with a modified 350 or up to a 454 though thats a different story

    Would it be harder to put an auto in a manual

    • @omoffroad
      @omoffroad  6 років тому

      Ryan Tuttleton,
      Yes because you would have to add more components that you can just eliminate when installing a manual. You would need an ECU for the auto, the correct wiring, flexplate, torque converter, complete steering column with shifter, and pedals. Also depending on what radiator you have you would also need the cooler lines, and possibly a new radiator with integrated transmission cooler.
