@@kewayneduncan7837 that’s the dumbest statement ever. Battle could’ve easily been outside. Even if we had to use the parking lot. Y’all was Jst really ducking
Both did great and both sound like miniature jsu. The arrangements that aren’t jsu arrangements mimic a miniature boom from whichever year the director attended jsu.
Great job by both marching bands. Karr was more balanced and song selection was very good Haven drums kinda took over a lot of the songs and took away from the brass part Tubas were pretty good. Overall Karr with the W
To me, both bands were at the top of their game this evening! I thought Whitehaven had better dynamics, clarity, intonation, phrasing, articulation, but the drums seem to get out of character at times. Hard to distinguish between tenor and bass at times. Karr’s drums were more consistent in trying to adjust to the indoor atmosphere. The overall band W goes to Haven but very slightly. Comes down to fundamentals of the overall band core of sound for me.
Both whitehaven and edna karr are kinda jsu feeder schools. Both played some boom arrangements, both just affiliated from different ways. They kinda sound similar too they’d hate to admit that though
Honestly Karr took this WH was good both good sounds but Karr knew it would be a loud battle in plus he prepared them for good music inside because he know both can crank. Karr showing musicianship. WH drums need to come down they taking the groove out the music. Both sound like college bands
Wh sounded great. Whitehaven had a much better set up, however, their drum sect was kind of drowning out their band. Karr had a much better and balanced sound.. Only thing that irritated me with Karr was their Set up.. I have NO IDEA why band directors insist on shooting themselves in the foot with their bad set up.. Why would you bury your mello section behind your trumpet section. The floor was wide enough to have your mellos on side of the trumpets. I've hard Karr mellos, they're 1 of the strongest sections, but the way they were set up, it sounded like that had 2 or 3 mellos. The purpose of playing horns is to hear the horns. It makes no since to bury a whole section behind another section if the gym is big enough and you don't have to. All in all, It's hard to judge this battle because most gym battles are horrid. I'll have to wait for an outside battle between these 2.
No.. Karr set up was fine… what lost it for Haven was the drums drowning out the horns and the director not directing the songs… he just stands in front and bucks lol Not telling them when to put the horns up or down, no signals for phrasing or dynamics …. You can’t tell me you don’t see that!
@@organizednoise9614 whe u practice and prepare u DONT need to wave ya arms the students knew what to bring their horns up and where all the dynamics where in the songs. People use to praise SU for their JUKEBOX identity #JustPressPlay
@@organizednoise9614 what would have been great is if the mellos was not behind the trumpets. I'm not saying Karr lost. but i've heard Karr, I've heard them sound stronger than they did at this battle. Karr had the better sound but they could have sounded better if their mellos wasn't sort of buried.
This battle is fun to see, dub goes to Karr tho… they have the fuller cleaner sound, the havens lower brass sometimes overpowered their upper brass…regardless both schools sound good AF….both groups have been putting in the work…
Karr won this easily! WH was good but a few things lost it for them. 1. The Marching in sucked 2. Drums drowning out the band 3. Director not directing any of the songs(He juts stands infront the band and bucks the whole time 🤷🏾♂️, no hand signals, no queuing to the next part, no signals for phrasing and dynamics, some parts looked a lil suspect. I’ve seen Haven always prepared for battles and this wasn’t it )🤷🏾♂️💯
I can understand the drums comment, but what does the marching in and the director not signaling parts in have to do with the actual battle? None of what you said besides the drums comment actually affected the playing.
@@呪krave it did. I judge EVERYTHING when is comes to “Marching” band and the “Marching” for Haven was a drag 🤷🏾♂️…. The director not signaling the band had its affects…. They were a lil unsure and hesitant about when to put the horns up and come in on some parts. You can see it if you look closely!
Hit that like button for me please!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Both bands have a mature sound for high schools
cus its da haven 🤷🏽
Praying for whitehaven 🙏🏽, lost their band director
I love that band edna karr
RIP to Whitehaven’s BD. So sad!! Condolences to his family.
Both schools were AMAZING 🔥 but Edna Karr for the Win 🏆
Edna “rich flex” almost sounds just like JSU 💙 great job almost lost tempo at the end but still great execution
IMO this was the best battle I’ve seen out of high schools this year. Props to both WH and EK
Karr drum section rlly said fuck the trombones 😭
I hate inside battles.
Whitehaven did that on purpose to cover up their mistakes and lack of sound
