BUT, when you broke down to these two bands I knew folk would get upset about your opinion. As a fan of both bands, I felt like they understood the assignment and made it happen. That mellophone was listening to the acoustic reverb of the band surprisingly he did it at a performance usually section leaders do it to find musical obstructions or sound clarity you can't hear without muffled ears, cause if you listening that hard you not playing intensely. Jsu sounds good su sound like they lips was already tired but still sounds really good but jsu with the fresh lips. I like jsu in this one
This was an interesting battle. I really don't see a winner but the fans. One thing was true about reading the comments this was between those two bands. Last thing one day jsu you will get euphonium that will change the sound and put JSU on another level that will cause some heads to turn and rethink their position.
well if your going to compare apple to Apple then have the same type of fruit. Pound for pound they have the best section around. If they are getting that sound with baritone horns they would be over powering with euphoniums. Simple put they want be able to over blow the horn. The sound would be more darker. I know what will happen the sound of the band would change. To keep the sound the arranger would have to be meticulous about how and where they use the instrument. Otherwise you get that sound everyone is doing. If they keep the baritone buy some good one. Not the blessing horn they had when i was in the band. Thars all i am saying. The pkayer are over blowing the instrument

There isn’t anybody trying to play louder than the next person. They have a well balanced sound. Very good example of how the musical pyramid suppose to be. On the other hand Southern has intonation problems, People are tying to out blow each other, overblowing going on, people hanging over on cut offs, sloppy, etc it’s just to much going on with them

He always going pick Southern just because they play loud even when their arrangements aren’t just all that‼️JSU has a big clean clear sound. There isn’t anybody trying to play louder than the next person. They have a well balanced sound. Very good example of how the musical pyramid suppose to be. On the other hand Southern has intonation problems, People are tying to out blow each other, overblowing going on, people hanging over on cut offs, sloppy, etc it’s just to much going on with them

Literally every band there was loud and trying to be heard including JSU so that’s a big fat ass cap …and besides SU is known for volume and still is but that was not always the case for these other bands
