    This is in regards to the beginning of the video and the interpretation of the low levels of platelets. To whom it may concern, when you have a drop in your platelets, especially if you have a drastic drop mentioned here you’ll have less of a capability to clot. So, in this instance you will not easily have or keep the ability to clot in a normal manner. You don’t have to be afraid to develop a clot but you have to be afraid that your body will not be able to form a clot due to low platelets, which will/ may cause too much bleeding.

    For interpretation do we use Absolute Values (number/Liter) or Percentage % ?
    My textbook say always use Absolute Values for interpretation instead of percentage. Is there a difference really. Thank you so much.

    • @MedicalLabLadyGill

      Both are informative but the Absolute should be used and updated if the manual WBC Differential, done during a smear review, altered any of the counts.

    Hello! I have a question. I had a CBC done and the abnormalities I had were, WBC of 10.4 K/UL (reference range 3.5-10.0) and Neutrophils of 82.1 (with reference range 40.0-75.0) and Lymphocytes low of 11.4 (reference range 20.0-45.0). Three days later I had another CBC done and the results change a little. WBC of 8.8 (now normal according to the reference range) but the RBC went up to 5.72 (reference 4.30-5.70) the Neutrophils were at 75.1 (almost on normal range) and Lymphocytes went up a little to 14.7 (but it's still low). My question is, Do you think the Neutrophils were the cause of the abnormal levels of WBC? Is an increase of RBC related to the changes explained previously? What are the different causes of low Lymphocytes? I hope my information is clear and you have a new subscriber thank you!!!

    • @MedicalLabLadyGill
      @MedicalLabLadyGill  3 роки тому

      Thanl you for your support and welcome to the channel! Yes, it sounds like the increase in the WBCs was from the Neutrophils. It seems as though there was inflammation for some reason.

    I thought the RDW-CV indicated a nutrient deficiency, does it not?

    • @MedicalLabLadyGill
      @MedicalLabLadyGill  3 роки тому +1

      The RDW-CV is the coefficient of variance of the red cell distribution width meaning the variation in volume and size of the RBCs. Depending on the value, there could be a number of causes as to why the RBCs are that size or fill. This can include nutritional status, recent transfusion, bone marrow issues, etc.

    • @MedicalLabLadyGill
      @MedicalLabLadyGill  4 роки тому +1

      I am not exactly sure what your question is but you want to perform a smear review. Mainly to check the RBC morphology and confirm the WBC automated differential counts. Also, look for parasites. This may include microfilaria or intracellular RBC parasites.

      The normal range for lab tests results vary from texts and websites. Your lymphocyte count is normal and there is no need for concern. You can check out more information about CBC results at Lab Tests Online. It is a site created and maintained by laboratorians. • @MedicalLabLadyGill
      @MedicalLabLadyGill  3 роки тому +1

      It depends on patient populations in different areas. Many institutions create their own QC by running groups of patient specimens that range the entirety of the analytical spectrum of their analyzer. The reference ranges used for our analyzer were from a textbook we use in our program. Hope this helps

      So, looking at your Hb, HCT, and MCV, I can say that you are fine. All the parameters except MCV fell within the normal range. The slight deviation seen in the MCV could be as a result of monthly mentruation (that is if there is no other form of blood loss) which causes iron losses and thus slightly affected the red cell sizes. Just ensure you take diet rich in iron the to supplement the monthly loss.
      I would be glad if you can send me the values of MCH and MCHC as well.
      Am grateful meeting you.
