I live in Kansas City and I worked at IN-A-TUB back in 1983 my junior year in high school. IN A TUB actually started on North Cherry Street In a lady's house and it didn't start with tacos. She sold a loose meat sandwich she called a Pocket Burger to kids after school. A guy that worked for her bought it after it moved up into a tiny building on N Oak Trafficway. And the menu was huge. You walked in and placed your order at one window and picked it up at another, there was no seating. There were a bunch of metal picnic tables and chairs outside and it was "The Hang out!" place. for High School kids. When I worked there it was 10 times better than now. We used real lard in every menu item that was fried. It was family owned and run and they sold a few franchises in Antioch shopping Mall, Blue Springs, and a place near where you ate in Parkville. It was as close as you could get to a movie like Porky's in the 50s as you could get. A friend of mine I grew up with and worked there with actually bought a franchise and opened a location in Midtown Kansas City. I had a lot of fun working there and we were all like a family. We closed down a few times due to snow and went across the street to Water Works Park to ride sleds and tube. Many of us were into ATVs and 4 wheel drive trucks and now and then we would go ride on the Kansas River. Since I worked there I cooked a million pounds of hamburger and remembered the recipe and make them at home every now and then. I see and stayed friends with the main son that ran everything. I am sure he is still alive, he'd be about 71 I think.
In a tub tacos are one of the best comfort foods in Kansas City. Extremely satisfying.
In- A -Tub makes the best tacos,I’ve been eating them for 60 years love the place . I Used to go to their original drive in that was about three blocks down the road when I was In high school. It’s just one of the hidden gems scattered around K.C. that the locals know about. Glad you got to discover them for yourself , next time your in town try Hayes Hamburgers and Chili they’ve been in business since 1955 best smash burgers around . Bon appétit !

I also have been going to the original In-A-Tub since the early 60's. We still go today. They are awesome.

In -A-Tub ROCKS!!! Closest thing to the ones my mom made! Love Em! True story...local place here in KC is 54th Street. Good Tacos, original place was next to a Hy-Vee. Taco Tuesdays I would drop by Hy-vee, pick up a family size box of Mac n Cheese. Open the package walking out of the store, dump the pasta and box. Take the package of powered cheese to 54...before long I would be passing the powdered cheese package around the bar.
Most mexicans used parmesean cheese. Next time try Rudy's Tenampa on Westport Rd. Awesome deep fried tacos. Kansas City, Mo.
Sounds like KC is ground zero for Deep fried Tacos and powdered cheese! I had no Idea. I may have to spend a couple days in KC and eat deep fried tacos! Thanks for the recommendation, I'll add Rudy's to my list.
They are great!! The best Street Tacos in the US is also here in KC! Carniceria y Tortilleria San Antonio (also known as San Antonio’s) is AMAZING!!! The best carne Asada & Al Pastor tacos ever!!

Look like the old Jack In The Box tacos from the 70's. Burger King had deep fried tacos as a limited promo for $1 a few years ago. I LOVE THEM!

I really like Jack in the Box tacos, but these were so much better.

@@SwanseaTitanFan they are definitely worth a try. I had every intention on stopping during my return trip, but we passed by in the wee hours of the morning. I have been craving them ever since!
In a tub is mid af id rather have fried tacos from el potro or Abelardos
I don't know man.. those "mid af" fried taco's really hit the spot. I'm not familiar with El Potro, but I have enjoyed a couple of burrito's from Abelardo's. If they have fried taco's I'll be needing to hit them up again pretty soon.
@@gordontodayim yep Abelardos fried tacos are 5 for 5.95 on Tuesdays they have them soft and hard as well either beef or chicken
TBF, that's a really bad comparison. One is unique, and the other more authentic.

@@MrCoors68 from my perspective it was $10 well spent. I enjoyed the tacos and onion rings emencely. But I have also been accused of having an uneducated palette...🤣
