Different kind of video this time. Let me know if you liked it!
I liked it! Learned a lot!
Spot on and teaches a lot
Hey thanks Navie D. I really wanted to know about this sort of topic but I had no idea what it was called! 🙏🙏
Great video. Short but totally informative
Great vid, I use FL so I like FL better but this is a very good method to reach other audiences
I searched the whole UA-cam but didn't found anyone who could explain this thing with soo much simplicity than you did. Awesome video 🔥
Excellent, I am glad I was able to help you find what you are looking for
Arguably the best explanation for compression I've seen. For me personally, the second part of dials(attack, release, knee) was the one harder to conceptualize before, visualization with graphs was tremendously helpful.
Thank you! Compression is such a hard thing to wrap your head around when all you have are dials and stuff, which is why I wanted to make this video
Producer for 8 years and had to teach myself pretty much everything. I've always understood compression but I've never heard it put in better words. Quality content 👌🏼
Darn, I'm in class right now. I'll save this to my watch later playlist.
Pay attention in school!!! Lol jk jk
You might end up with a D in biology, but hopefully you will end up with an A+ in compression after you watch this video
@@NavieD Facts
@@NavieD lmao
if someone says, you can't hear pictures - here's the proof you can :D . formidable lesson and well explained 👌
Alex you are a legend 😘
Important note about Attack (and also Release):
It's not a delay from when the signal crosses the threshold - the compressor will always act *immediately* on any signal going above the threshold. What Attack actually does is determine how long it takes for it to apply *a certain amount of the compression* to the signal (usually 2/3rds, but varies), so you can say it's *how fast the compressor accelerates/ramps up* to clamp down on the signal.
Release, of course, is the reverse of that.
One of the most underrated youtubers, keep on grinding you'll be huge one day.
Thank you Son!
Damn right!
Great tutoring👌
Defo. Great tuts.
I agree he's very good
Dang you really broke this down so that anyone can understand! If a viewer does not get it after this then they need to give up producing and try something else! Nice job!
🤣🤣🤣Truth!
Hahaha thank you Jay! Yeah I tried to make it as simple as I possibly could
I never understood compression, but now with your simplified explanation, I do! Great quality tutorial!
Thanks Dream! I felt the same way for a long time so I wanted to try my best to explain it more simply
Best compression video i ever watched....
Thank you Keval! Hopefully this cleared things up
The greatest teacher on youtube about production!!
Bro, even his teaching stlye is unique. True teacher, mad respect.
Glad you liked the video Rufus. This video took like a million tries just to make
This right here is a real youtube series on the rise. Easily explaining things like this can help countless producers get their foot in the door
in have never in my life ever watched a more helpful more simple way of explaining compression. Absolute hall of fame masterpiece of a video
I am sound engineer . The way you explained compression was spot on ... this is a great compression video and anyone who reads this please know this is exactly what industry producers and Mix and Mastering engineers do to all sounds in music as well as adding saturation to fill wave forms . Navie once again dope teaching bro
Only time in like a decade I fully understood compression. Thank you.
Hahah that's big!
4:20 best explanation I've ever heard on compression.
Omgg bro .... nailed it!!! Literally my alll doubts are cleared..... the best explanation i could find ........ thanks a lotttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahah awesome, glad you were able to understand!
Navie D. Got my back in production 🙌🏼⚡
Thanks for being the one only person that can explain this without making you feel like you need to watch 5 more videos to understand what you just watched in the 1st video
Been making beats 6 years, I use compression sometimes and kind of get it, but now I actually KNOW how to use it fully, thanks to you! 🙏🏿
By far, THE BEST explanation on compression, and i've heard alot of explanations on compression
Thank you Donnie boy!
that's literally the best music tutorial I've ever seen. I wasn't able to understand compression in years until now.
THE BEST and I repeat THE BEST video explaining compression that i have ever seen on YT
Thank you Manolis!
Man you definitely are one of the most outstanding youtuber ever, all your videos have something to offer...
Joseph you made me the happiest man on the planet today
I'm only 3 minutes in and this is already the BEST explanation I've ever seen.
This is hands down the best explanation of compression I've ever seen. I've struggled with understanding compression for years. I knew and could explain what all of the settings did, but I never understood the purpose of using compressors, so I never did. I always only perceived them as making sounds louder, so I used things like saturation in place of compression. This changes everything. Thank you so much.
You're quality man. Big up!
You are quality yourself Commet!
Fire video Navie! Always innovating, really informative too! Thank you mane
The visual makes it easier to comprehend, good vid dude
And this is why you are becoming my favorite youtuber on beatmaking. You make easy to understand videos that explain concepts that might seem very difficults for beginners to understand. SO from Montreal !
Ayyyy I love Montreal, excellent strip clubs over there 👌
True story hahaha
@@NavieD massage parlours are not bad either ;)
Liked AND favorited. This was such an easy to follow breakdown. Wow. You’ve got the most easily digestible channel out there man. Thank you so much

Such a great Video, Navie! Best explanation of compression on UA-cam!
Great work as usual! Thanks for the upload navie. You're helping me alot
Thank you for watching Dyski!
Your videos are developing day by day and I'm sure you gonna be the biggest music producer UA-camr in the UA-cam crossing Andrew Huang and Simon Servida.
Hahah I can't even imagine that happening, but thank you!
perfect diagram, thank you, i've been wondering, but i see now its not just about the peak but the tail end
Your channel is the one stop shop to clear up my curiosities and confusions. Thank you!
Hahah thank you! Glad to have you on board man
Been trying to figure out how to best use compression on my beats for 10 years and I truly still feel like I don’t completely understand what I’m doing.
This video just unlocked a literal cheat code for me!!!!!!
Thank You
Very informative. Felt like I was in class. Thanks for this.
Finally a vidéo that explain why gain is key in drums compression! I get it now...Thank you Navie D, you made me a smarter human being today ;-)
Hahah I am happy to hear that Chris! Hopefully you use your new and improved brain to make some good beats!
I've watched countless videos and this is definitely the explanation you need if you don't understand compression. Easy to understand and tells you the purpose of its use.
Dude you make the best videos, this vid was really needed and it was perfect!!!

Thank you Blueflame! This video was hard as heck to make, but its nice to know its helped
This video is really perfect for beginners like me to grasp the basic concept of compression. Really great video mate !!
This video was awesome. Thank you so much. After watching so many compression vids, this pieced in all the gaps about what happens when u compress and how all the dials work. The visuals are so helpful instead of you just talking. Again, thank you!!
BEST BREAKDOWN EVER! Honestly. I’ve seen many and this is the best. Thank you!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Not all heroes wear capes! this is the best explanation of compression I’ve ever seen! Thank you once again for sharing your knowledge ✊🏽
Beautifully explained. Thank you!
This video!!!
Explained so perfectly! 💯
I find this very useful. You're explaining is very straightforward, easy to understand.
Not even gonna hold you.. After watching this video I definitely understand compression way more than I did before.. thank you!
This is easily one of the best compression explanations I've seen, hands down.
Creative thinkers are often visual learners and as a graphic designer, I loved the drawings. What would have made this the best compression video I've ever seen period, would be if there were a few audio examples. Maybe at the end to wrap up the lesson. Even if you just had a kick or snare playing every time you turned a knob to show the difference. But great vid man, thank you. Keep it up
Thanks Roland! I am the same way, I find it easier to learn visually. I was thinking about doing a follow up on other audio examples, but the video didn't perform really well : (
This is the best compression of you I have everything seen. And it is much appreciated an I’m pretty sure it took a lot to do this very interesting
Dude, this was the easiest explanation of compression I've ever heard. Thank you so much
Great explanation! It was very easy to understand. Now I’m excited to get experiment with my compressor on a few drum sounds.
this is VERY well explained. It really shows a lot of talent/expertise to explain something in such a simple and insightful way
Just wanted to say thanks for all of the knowledge you are sharing. Glad I ran into your channel.
Glad I can help young Gary. That baby looks adorable
Yo, that made so much sense. Thanks for explaining Navie
VERYYYY Solid video on compression, ive watch soo many and no one explains it like this. this was especially good for me because im a visual learner
This is a really awesome video on compression!
You managed to explain this in a coherent way I can understand. Tysm.
Hahah thanks man. I thought drawing it out would really help people understand it visually
Really good video as always, really helped me understand compression
Awesome video man, I’ve struggled understanding compression for years but this really clears things up for me 👍
Yeah it can be really confusing, glad I could help clear things up
Great video. I am using compressors for some time already but I just really understood how it works. Thanks for sharing
Thats the best compression explain i ever seen. Perfect..! 👍👍😊
Really great compression 101, perhaps the best I've seen. Would love to see you do a video on drum buss compression too!
Good visualization. Thank you Navie

Hahaaaa thank you Zilent! Tried to do something a bit different with this one, glad you liked it!
Best tutorial I've seen on compression. Can not wait to get home and try this myself. Better than school teaches it.
Hahah thank you Ryan! This damn video took me like 7 tries to make. Lots of ruined paper
@@NavieD Well worth it, extremely well worth it! I got a lot of knowledge from you today. I'm ready to head home and apply it. Just for your you have critiques or feedback sessions too so looking forward to it
Thank you so much. Have had problems comprehending this for years
Superb explanation.... really good... enjoyed it
Excellent clip and explanation!
Thanks! I really understood. Simple way of explaining...loving it!
I feel like you're the only production channel that actually explains techniques in a way that makes sense. I've done courses and seen so many videos on compression and this is the first time ive actually understood it, thank you 🙏
Also you talk about alot of techniques I don't see anyone else talk about, most channels talk about the same as eachother, you actually break things down in a really easy to understand way and touch on untouched techniques.
I've done a search on your channel and couldn't find it but have you done one for parallel compression?
Super helpful vide. Thank you!
Thank you so much! Been confused about this for months
Loving your content mate also that wall art of help me devon.
Well when you put it like that it’s so simple to understand. 🙏🏿
Putting a lot of useful information in short videos proves, Navie knows how to compress! Thanks, really helpful videos :)
That sloth in your pic is having a good time
Brilliant. Totally get it now
Dope stuff man! I actually learned something by the end of it.
