I prefer 'Kind of Magic' to the Miracle album.I like the hits and 'was it all worth it' but the rest feels a bit throw away...you could probably make a brilliant album using the best tracks from Kind of Magic and The Miracle
This album has 3 solid tracks... I want it all The Miracle Was it all worth it Plus two "cover songs" so to speak... Invisible Man aka Ghost Busters And Breakthrough aka Boys of Summer
Love this album since getting it on cassette when I was a kid back in '89. Can remember all three formats of this album displayed in Asda. Got a soft spot for this album (except for 'Rain Must Fall') and the 'Sheer Heart Attack' album.
This was the first Queen album I bought so I always have a soft spot for it. I want it all album version is immense, my favourite Queen heavy rock song.
Had it on cassette as well as the works ,I must be getting old darren 57 in 3 weeks your review is spot on but the rock queen does really rocks completely distancing themselves from hot space that's what I really enjoyed this period of queen.
I love Was it All Worth it. For me, one of their best songs post mid-70s. They likely thought at the time that it could very well be the last song on the last album. The difference here vs. Show Must Go On is that Freddie still has a playful energy and his classic tongue in cheek humor. Over the top Queen brashness on full display. I think that Scandal was more about Brian moaning over stories about him leaving his wife, etc. Agree with Darren on just about everything else… Thanks Darren!
I also liked this album more at the time of release than I do now. At the time, I felt it was their best album since The Game. Now, I think I would put The Works and even A Kind of Magic above it. Yeah...something about it hasn't aged well.
Strangely, the first two songs don't appeal to me, after that I want it all, so to speak. The album rocks. I love all the singles from this release. The stand out track, for me is 'Was it all worth it?.' Miracle is my favourite Queen album, with News of the World in second place, Jazz in third. I don't care for Night at the opera, and after looking forward to hearing it, I can still remember being very disappointed by it. But now I know, now I know, now I know, now I know.
Loved it when it was released, but less so now - I remember being super disappointed at the group writing credits - I kind of liked my favourite band being able to write hit singles individually…
The division of credits in the songs is most likely due to the moment the album was produced, that is, Mercury's disease was already manifesting and this ended up uniting the band.
Darren...you never mentioned the title track...and the excellent accompanying official video. I urge the viewers who haven't seen it, to give it a try. Those kids absolutely nail all eras of Queen...brilliant watch..!!
All the Queen albums after News of the World are a bit patchy. I like the Miracle a bit more than you, but the uneven nature of the albums makes it easy to reasonably disagree. When it came out, it sounded to me as if Queen finally reigned in their 80s distractions and were trying to get back to business as it were. I'd no idea at the time that the band would soon be over. Will you be reviewing the live albums? And what do you think of the Paul Rogers and Adam Lambert eras?
The Miracle cover image is pretty disturbing. Then on the back the wall of eyes! It’s a pretty hollow album now to me. The Miracle, I Want It All, Breakthru and Was It All Worth It are the best tracks. Innuendo is far better in all respects.
1. Party: not a good opener 5/10 2. Khashoggi's Ship: eh it's ok 6/10 3. The Miracle: love it, a great song written by john and freddie 9/10 4. I want it all: the album version is a real treat, a great rocker 9/10 5. The Invisible man: I like the techno elements of the song and a great guitar solo 8/10 6. Breakthru: my favourite song from the album 10/10 7. Rain must fall: not a fan, and it's a rip off of Young Hearts Run Free 4/10 8. Scandal: great song 10/10 9. My baby does me: why did they allow an unfinished demo on the album, should've been replaced with Hang on in there, 3/10 10. Was it all worth it?: they go back to their progressive rock roots with this song, great song, 10/10 Overall score 6.5/10 a average record with six great songs, but is let down by the other four.
"Hotspace" aside I think this is the worst of their 80's output. Got a few good songs on it and the production is good but overall I just don't rate it and I rarely go back to it. Its also got what is probably the worst Queen lyric which makes my wince (Was It All Worth Its "Were so Dandy/We love you Mandy") :-(
Stopped following Queen after Hot Space except for a couple of singles, I do like the reviews since I have not heard any of albums in full since The Game. I hate this cover.

I've ordered the 2cd set of the collectors edition today.

How much are they going for
This was the first Queen album I bought so I always have a soft spot for it. I want it all album version is immense, my favourite Queen heavy rock song.
According to Wikipedia there were 15 studio albums .. the last two : Innuendo and Made in Heaven
Nah…it’s wrong…
Yup - if you’re going to have an innuendo, always have a big one! 👍

I think that was more about sharing the money out equally. Genesis did a similar thing in the 80s too.
The division of credits in the songs is most likely due to the moment the album was produced, that is, Mercury's disease was already manifesting and this ended up uniting the band.

I don’t like it. It’s awful and so is the video…

Same. Enjoyed it at the time. Only really like the singles these days.
I like the first two tracks best then it's all a bit average after that. I agree that WIAWI? was placed there in case this was the last album.
That's a solid album same as AKOM
Have to say I was never really a Queen fan But I've thoroughly enjoyed your run through the albums.

My Baby Does Me instrumental reminds me always of Sade's music.
I want it all, Breakthru, Scandal, was it all worth it are great tracks. The rest is pretty ordinary.
Yes, the back cover does remind me of trypophobia. Not as bad as lotus seed heads but still disturbing.
Kind of Magic and The Miracle are the "least good" Queen albums imo. I even tend to prefer Hot Space to these albums.

I thougt it was “madly”…

I really hate the back cover!
All you need to buy is the 3 greatest hits albums......
