As an ENFJ who loves doing solo stuff and also needs music/podcasts/some kind of auditory sensation going on, this was validating! 😊

It makes so much sense that Harvard has an art course I've just never heard of anybody graduating from it but I love that Harvard has an art course don't get me wrong your degree is never a waste unless you make it a waste by not doing anything with it
hi :) just found your channel. I live in boston, any class you recommend at harvard for film?? :D
Can you create a course teaching people how to sketch? 😮
girl you seem kind but as a fellow daughter of immigrant parents i cannot wrap my head around a visual arts major after observing how hard your parents have worked - was content creation on your agenda from the very beginning of college? i just dont see (perhaps im ignorant/ unaware?) how visual artists make any money in the digital age without being a social media CC to house your portfolio
I feel very fortunate that I grew up in a family and a city of artists (LA) and was able to observe success in the creative industry at such a young age. My uncle is a concept dev head for marvel, my dad pursued photography in his 30s, my aunts and uncles grew up going to school with huge Asian UA-camrs and artists in SGV like Bart Kwan.
Intertwined with that, I grew up being taught that you should always play to your strengths rather than your weaknesses. I am an awful student, but I have always had a knack for design, video, creative skills. Therefore it actually makes the most sense for me to pursue that field of study, knowing I have something unique I can bring to the world. Studying visual arts opens the gateway to many lucrative industries. Working in tech one could pursue UI dev (I worked at a web/app dev company freshman year to try that out), Graphic Design (I tried that out Sophomore summer at an online publication), video production (I interned in social media/for Wong Fu, one of the OG YT production studios in LA). In our digital age, the possibilities are endless, you don’t have to be the face of your work to make a living.
It’s important to note that what you study doesn’t define the career path you take either. I had friends graduate from the same degree who went into consulting, startups, using experience from different positions they held in school orgs. If things didn’t work out, Plan B was not too far of a reach given my previous experience.
A stroke of luck is also necessary in situations like these and I think stumbled upon a few. I grew up in LA, I had role models who succeeded, I still have a degree from a very well known university to fall back on at the end of the day. The greatest though, is how I was raised to feel confident and never the slightest bit guilty for attempting to turn my dreams into a career. My parents have been nothing but supportive throughout my entire journey that happened to land at content creation. My dad sacrificed his dreams of being a photographer so that I could pursue mine of being an artist! 🥹🤍
I hope this helps clarify any misconceptions about pursuing the arts and bring a bit of light to my personal journey in realizing that so early on in life.
@@caitshouse thank you for such a detailed response. so it seems like youve been extremely proactive about gaining experience in related areas throughout your academic journey, and what a bonus to hail from a family who are also in/ around the industry! thats so dope, no doubt youll be successful throughout all the different opportunities that come your way in your career :)
