Hi TMac, I came across your channel exactly because I purchased a T16 and I have been watching your videos in preparation to the arrival of my T16 and so happen that mine needs this update. I have to mention and thank you because your videos "by far are the most comprehensive videos on the T16". and was wondering if a flight controller can be turned into a usb serial adapter? I dont have one but do have a kakute flight controller. Thank you!
Hey Reinaldo! Thanks for your support. No, I'm sorry to day, you'll need a USB-to-serial adaptor like the ones mentioned in the video, the checklist, and Mr. Ben Lye's process
Hi, I just recieved my T16 today and I will follow this tutorial as soon as I will recieve my usb to serial adaptator. Thank you for your videos, they will help a lot.
Rob Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, I think I have to install the bootloader because the version of the FW of the internal module is V1.2.1.51.
Great video! do you know if the Pro V2 comes with the bootloader ? I just flashed open tx 2.3.9 on my Jumper t16 pro v2 but unsure if i need to do something additional for the bootloader
You're fine. It came with bootloader. Remember to keep up with multi-protocol module firmware updates. 2 different firmware in transmitter. This video explains it ua-cam.com/video/xAmCWIwzlKc/v-deo.html Also, check out entire playlist on the T16 for more helpful info👍
Hi Finally achieved the module update. I had to wait until 1 of the three new USB yo TTL boards arrived and it worked just fine. Oh and guess what the telemetry from D8 receivers is now working fine. I used a Sparkfun 3.3 FTDI basic board. So all good there. How do I check if the module has actually been updated? I'm going to have another look at your video. All I now need is my replacement Hall Gimbals that still haven't been sent. Filed a dispute with AliExpress.
Your videos have been a great help, keep up the great work. The one thing I am having a hard time finding is the actual updating for the internal module , firmware and sd card updates are not a problem but I was told there are also updates for the module itself.

By the way, if you're going to update with 2.3.3RC1 version of OpenTx, remember to select Release Candidate (testing) in drop-down menu of Application Tab of OpenTX Companion. 2.3.3RC1 is a release candidate. You have 3 options in drop-down menu 1. Stable Release (for official releases), 2. Release Candidate (testing) , and 3. Nightly Build (experimental-not recommended for flying). You need to select the correct one for the type of firmware you're downloading
I received a T-16 Pro yesterday that came with the internal multi-module bootloader already flashed so hopefully people won't need to do this soon. I ordered the parts needed to flash it so they'd be here when the radio arrived but turns out I didn't need them anyway! Thanks for the great vid though, I watched it in preparation for what I was expecting to do.
Sweet! Thanks for the info! Not everyone has been as fortunate as you since many have been shipped out without the bootloader and not all vendors have the stock which does contain the bootloader at this time. OpenTX Dev's have been working with Jumper tomake this happen. Next step for Jumper is to include OpenTX official release on their T16s prior to shipment. I'm confident that will happen eventually.
@@gerryroedel4591 See time hack 13:10 of video. If internal module firmware version ends in .85, you're good to go (bootloader is installed). If it ends in .51, you need to upload the bootloader per this video
Hi really great to have found you. New Zealand here. Purchased my Jumper T16 Pro Hall which arrived without Hall Gimbals however they have promised to ship me them this coming week along with a faulty slider. Love the Jumper TX and is replacing my X9D however spent the whole of Saturday trying to figure out why no Telemetry from my D8 Rxs. Finally, someone answered me pointing me to your vid here. Am I correct in assuming that I need to install the bootloader and update the internal module firmware to remedy this problem. I also don't want to download a nightly build of OpenTX but I'm assuming the stable version won't be too far away which will ultimately fix the D8 problem
Hey Donald! Welcome aboard! Yes, you are correct. Do the process demonstrated in the video (using the checklist at the link in the description of the video). Then, when you get the stable OpenTX installed it should work fine. I, myself, am also waiting for the official OpenTX release instead of using nightly builds. There's another comment down below which does state it fixed this same issue for them (although they were using a nightly release).
Hey Donald! Thought I'd follow-up with you. Just verified with my Mobula 7 after binding to T16 in D8 mode and having done this bootloader upload with multi-protocol module firmware update, it DOES IN FACT have telemetry. This is WITHOUT any nightly build. I just have the JumperTX firmware installed. So, if you just follow the procedures in video and checklist at link, you should be able to get telemetry with your D8 RXs.
@@TMacFPV Hi Ive just had a go at this and all went well until I tried the upload and it says Erase Failed. Ive checked and rechecked the wires. @@donaldhill2076 Hey Donald! Sorry to hear you’re having some difficulties. First thing I did when I saw your comment was search on the USB-to-Serial adapter you mentioned. Came across this link ( www.robotshop.com/en/dfrobot-ftdi-usb-serial-basic-breakout-board.html ) which the last line in the description says “The RX and TX pins might be inverted on some units.” Of course, I have no idea if this is your issue. On this other link ( www.dfrobot.com/product-147.html ) for I believe the same adapter, it says: “We made some little change with silk-screen, it needs to connect "TX" to "TX"; "RX" to "RX" in programming, Our Arduino Pro and LilyPad boards use this type of connector. Other things I can think of to check are: 1. Do you have a model loaded in which the internal module is being used? Try connecting the USB adaptor BEFORE turning the radio on. 3. Did you download the correct firmware for your channel order (I.e. AETR or TAER, etc.)? 4. When the transmitter is turned ON make sure the model is fully loaded (no alerts for throttle, switches, etc.). 5. Is the correct COM port selected? These are just ideas from the checklist available through the link of the video as I am unaware of what specifically you have tried. Only other thing I can think of is perhaps you have a fault USB-to-Serial Adaptor? There’s a link in the video description to the one I used CP2102 which I purchased on Amazon. Is there an “internal break” in any of the wires (i.e. can you check continuity of them?)? That’s all I can think of friend. Let me know if any of this helps.
@@TMacFPV Look I really do appreciate your time and effort. Ive tried everything and come to the conclusion its the board either faulty or I've got it configured wrong. I'm trying to find a supplier closer to NZ of the board that you used. I have an Arduino Nano which has all the correct pins but its outputting 5v on the tx and rx pins. It has a 3.3 pin onboard but no way to change the output voltage to those pins. I notice the board you are using also has two pins a 5v and a 3.3. I also notice you are simply connecting to the board ignoring both. My question is does the board you are using output the 3.3v on the tx and or rx pins or is it outputting 5v. I'm loath to plug this one in until im sure about the voltage. I have noticed that the Deek Robot board has a permanent red light showing which I think is wrong. It does briefly flash the Tx and RX light, however, the Arduino Nano has both the Rx and Dx lights showing green when plugged in.
I've got a 2nd hand jumper T16 that came with the TX version 2.3.5 and the internal module version 1.2.1.51. Do I have to install the bootloader? And what version should I install? Thanks TMac for the video 👍

Great video. Watched to video a couple of times, built the wiring harness, and installed all the drivers. However, when I ran the Multi-Flash Tool, I'm getting a "Failed to erase flash memory" error. Any ideas where to look to solve this problem?
Hey Mike! Thanks! A couple things I can think of: 1. from Ben Lye in RCGroups: "Some people had issues flashing with Flash Multi (getting Failed to Erase) found that using ST Flash Loader Demonstrator to do a full erase of the module solved the problem and they were then able to install the firmware with Flash Multi." 2. Do you have the transmitter OFF? 3. Are you using the checklist I provide a link to in the video description or Ben Lye's process also at link in video description? 4. Almost sounds like it's a driver issue. You may want to run ImmersionRC Driver Fixer (this actually may also be in the checklist, I'm not sure). 5. Are you using an adaptor with 3.3 volts? 6. Have the adaptor wires connected properly? I'd just methodically go through and verify each & every individual step. Now that I think if it, if nothing else works, it could also be a bad adaptor. Someone who tried this using a different adaptor than recommended ones went through 3 new ones of those he tried before getting a recommended one which worked
@@TMacFPV The ImmersionRC Driver Fixer solved the problem. I've used this to fix flashing firmware issues on flight controllers but I really wasn't sure how to use this on the radio since the radio USB was not used to update the internal module driver. However, the follow process worked for me: 1. Plug the special wiring adapter into the internal module. 2. Plug in the USB cable into the top of the radio with power off and run the ImmersionRC Driver Fixer. 3. Unplug the USB cable and turn the power on the radio. 4. Plug the USB plug into the USB-to-Serial Adapter. 5. Run the Flash Multi program.

If you're talking about the 1.25mm 5-pin cplastic connector, I just used an extra one which came with one of the FrSky receivers I have. There's aslo a link to it from Banggood up above in this video description. I also searched Google for 1.25mm 5-pin connector and it looks like you can get it from Sparkfun (connector has 5 pins but only 4 wires installed) in Colorado at: www.sparkfun.com/products/15132 . Or, if you want, you can send me an email with your shipping address and I can get one out to you if you live in U.S.
Your Jumper T16 Pro should work just fine out of the box. ****However there is a known bug in the JumperTX firmware for Spektrum receivers (DSM protocol). There is an unofficial "fix" for this issue. For further information on DSM issue and unofficial "fix" please see a post from Benzo99 on RCGroups at this link: **drive.google.com/file/d/1OyZStkAUHd-2rnkUetUFYPuasPL5Bvt1/view?usp=sharing** . **** It will have on it JumperTX firmware on the transmitter and most likely firmware V1.2.1.51 on the internal module. These are 2 different things (transmitter firmware & internal module firmware). Jumper TX firmware is a "fork" or "branch" of OpenTX and is maintained solely by Jumper. OpenTx is more widely used by many other transmitters and is maintained by the OpenTX Development team. More info on OpenTX can be found here: www.open-tx.org/ . OpenTX is planning to support the Jumper T16 with an official release soon (most likely version 2.2.3). To use and take advantage of OpenTx firmware updates to the multi-protocol module, you would need to perform the procedures in this video, if you have V1.2.51 on your internal module. You can check the version of firmware on your internal module by going to Model Setup menu and just above where you would go to bind the receiver, you will see "Module Status." This is where you will see the firmware version. (see time on video at 13:20). Hope this helps. Clear skies!
@@TMacFPV, Thanks so much for all the work you're doing on this! I would add a caveat to the statement "Your Jumper T16 Pro should work just fine out of the box." That is not true for Spektrum receivers, as you say elsewhere. I'm flying a Flex Innovations Mamba 10 with Spektrum. Before I happened onto your and others posts, I bought the newest Jumper T16 with internal module built-in from Heli-Nation, and it bound successfully to the Mamba, and seemed to range check OK. Then, as I was flying an approach, the plane went to full right aileron and spun out of control into the ground at full throttle. I was flying low about to land, so there was no damage to the aircraft, and luckily it did not collide with the pilot flying at the station just downwind of me, but it was close. I learned a lot making this video. Please be aware the Jumper Radio firmware is DIFFERENT than the internal multi-protocol module firmware. Do not get the two confused. This video demonstrates the process to upload the correct bootloader for the internal multi-module and update the internal multi-module firmware only. The T16 comes ready to use, as is. T16 Manual can be found at this site: www.jumper-rc.com/download/t16-pro-hall-v2/ Section 3.2, page 27 talks about calibrating your sticks which may be your issue on motor starting only half-way up on throttle (IF you have the correct stick configuration on your transmitter fro Mode 2). No, you're good! It does come ready to use, no worries at all! You made a great decision. Please let me clarify. The T16 comes with certain "firmware" installed on it which is ready to use. This video is only describing a process which will need to be accomplished ONCE (for the bootloader) and only if/when you want to upgrade the module firmware when OpenTX officially supports it in the near future. Firmware upgrades normally mean enhanced features or fixes to previous "bugs" in the firmware. For example, if you look on the 1st page of the checklist mentioned which you can download through the link, there's a comment which says "RADIO FIRMWARE-IMPORTANT. A "bug" has been found with the firmware Jumper has placed on the T16 FOR DSM/SPECTRUM receivers ON THE INTERNAL MODULE ONLY." So, if you're running DSM/SPECTRUM receivers you'll need to upload patched Jumper firmware (which this video did NOT cover but is available through RCGroups (see checklist)). If you're not running DSM/Spectrum receivers with your new T16, you don't NEED to do any of this in the video until you're ready to update module firmware. Hope this helps. If you need anything else, please let me know.
Are you speaking of installing a bootloader on an external module of updating the firmware on an external module? I guess the answer to either is yes, I believe so. Can’t believe that you cannot update module by using usb ? Seems a bit odd unless this will be supported in the realese version of open tx otherwise people will be stuck with jumper tx
Initial shipments of T16 were shipped without necessary bootloader installed. Due to that, this process is required ONCE (to install bootloader & update module firmware). If module firmware version ends in .85 or later, the bootloder should be installed and this process will not be necessary. Jumper T16 will be fully supported by OpenTX in official release
My T16 pro with internal module, came with boot loader and, and updates JumperTX firmware just fine. I will try OpenTX when it is officially supported.
Hey Rickster! Glad to hear your T16 is working well for you. Just to make certain we're both on the same sheet here. The T16 "radio firmware" (such as the JumperTX firmware) is different than the firmware on the internal module. Yes, you can update the "radio firmware" just fine without uploading the bootloader for the internal module. To find out if you need to upload the bootloader for the internal module in order to be able to update the internal module with OpenTX you need to look at what firmware is loaded on the internal module (not the radio firmware). You can see the internal module firmware version by going to Module Status under the Model Setup menu (this will be just above where you bind your receiver). If the Module Status shows v1.2.1.51 you do not have the necessary bootloader installed to use OpenTX for updates. If you have V1.2.1.85 you DO have the necessary bootloader installed on your internal module. Please see time hacks 12:38 & 13:14 of video. The official release of OpenTX supporting T16 hasn't happened yet. You can run JumperTx radio firmware (as you currently have it) and the firmware you currently have on the internal module without doing anything. If you want to use OpenTX later on for updates , depending on your internal module firmware, you may need to perform process in this video.
@@TMacFPV it is v1.2.1.51, and i have the required adapter, but i'm not going to mess with it until I want to use OpenTX. All I fly is spektrum and I haven't had any issues. @@TMacFPV So i decided to update it, and it went ok. However the Fix.bin was compiled on the 10/10, claiming that jumper has not included the update. The only "updates" I have done to my Jumper T16 Pro are what is contained in this video. I will wait for official release of OpenTx support prior to updating anything else. Hi TMac,
I came across your channel exactly because I purchased a T16 and I have been watching your videos in preparation to the arrival of my T16 and so happen that mine needs this update.
If you received it a day ago you may already have the current bootloader. You need to look at your internal mod #.

Yes! Outstanding! Time stamp 13:14 of video will show you how to verify internal module update. Congratulations Donald!👍😉
Great video! One question though.
Why did you use the non inv file.
I used the inv file. What is the difference?
Hey kkuenzel56! noinv is for internal Multi-protocol module, inv is for external multi-protocol module
Your videos have been a great help, keep up the great work. The one thing I am having a hard time finding is the actual updating for the internal module , firmware and sd card updates are not a problem but I was told there are also updates for the module itself.
Hey Jeff! I'll take care of that for you this week friend 👍

@@TMacFPV Can't wait to watch! Unfortunately I am off to work for the evening. Now I have something to look forward to at 11:00 p.m.!
How do you know if the bootloader is installed or not?

Ive the Rx to tx and Tx to rx Booto and 3.3 wires joined. Just cant think of what else to do? Im using a Deek-Robot usb to serial set with the slider to 3.3. Not sure what else.
@@donaldhill2076 Hey Donald! Sorry to hear you’re having some difficulties. First thing I did when I saw your comment was search on the USB-to-Serial adapter you mentioned. Came across this link
( www.robotshop.com/en/dfrobot-ftdi-usb-serial-basic-breakout-board.html ) which the last line in the description says “The RX and TX pins might be inverted on some units.” Of course, I have no idea if this is your issue.
On this other link
( www.dfrobot.com/product-147.html ) for I believe the same adapter, it says: “We made some little change with silk-screen, it needs to connect "TX" to "TX"; "RX" to "RX" in programming, Our Arduino Pro and LilyPad boards use this type of connector.

Or, if you want, you can send me an email with your shipping address and I can get one out to you if you live in U.S.
Hello! Just ordered my jumper t16 pro. But is this completely necessary? Or it is just a preventive measure for the future?

This looks like a lawsuit ready to happen. This known issue needs to be elevated.

What is NOINV?
That's the file you need for the internal module. You'd need INV if you're flashing external module

@@TMacFPV Thank you for your help! As you said all I needed to do was plug into the multi-protocol module. Sometimes I make things harder than they have to be! Keep up the great work!
@@williambeckett4295 Glad to hear it worked out for you William! Happy flying friend 👍
Is this the only way to update the internal module ?
Yes, for OpenTx you will need to do it this way only ONCE. From then on, you would do it through OpenTX Companion.
I don't have any COM port to select. Anyone can help on this?
Also I saw your usb adapter red light turned off after a few sec. Mine keeps on lighting. Maybe I did something wrong?
follow steps in this checklist. Should work for you drive.google.com/file/d/1iAMQ...
Same problem - no additional comms port on plug in. (check list page not found for me)
GOT IT!!! Thank you!!
Outstanding!👍😉
Found out what was wrong the files from open tx have no version file on them so it won’t be recognised by transmitter
tried with a FTDI breakout board only because I had it on hand. I guess I need a CP2102 or equiv.
Per the checklist at link above, you could use the FT232RL FTDI but need to make sure it operates at 3.3v
@@TMacFPV Got it. Somehow I was misled by the silkscreen on my FTDI (that I've used before for Arduino). That always makes you feel dumb when you mix TX/RX. Works now. Ready for OpenTX stable! Thanks for this video. By the way this also fixed my Analog Telemetry on D8 with OpenTX 2.3.2Nightly
@@rabidbydesign Outstanding Rabs! Very happy for you! I haven't attempted the nightly myself. Think I might just wait until official. Thanks for getting back with your feedback though. Its always great to hear success stories like yours!👍😀
Top man thanks for the info I’ve just ordered the parts to update the module can you post a picture of the wiring diagram that be great 👍
@@mark161262 Mark, please see time hack 3:56 of video. Checklist available in video description along with link to Be Lye's process
TMac thanks matey
@@mark161262 you betcha!👍
Honestly, after flying a DX9 for 4 years I can see how cheap the T16 really is. I don't like taking it apart unless I have to, I already did once to fix the misbent/damaged throttle tension and friction adjusments. That thumb roller wheel is garbage.
@@richarddoberstein8308 That's great Richard! I completely understand. I think it's a great transmitter. Have fun my friend!👍
@@TMacFPV So i decided to update it, and it went ok.
However the Fix.bin was compiled on the 10/10, claiming that jumper has not included the update.
Jumper has updated the firmware on there site since then. The current FW is 2019-10-17 (a1172cea) .
Also the fix.bin only has one version, no Flex, so I don't know if i should use it.
@@rickster-fpv1818 What did you update? The internal module per the video or the transmitter (radio) firmware with JumperTX? If you're talking about updating any firmware with another JumperTX version, I personally would not recommend it, I have not, and will not do it myself. The only "updates" I have done to my Jumper T16 Pro are what is contained in this video. I will wait for official release of OpenTx support prior to updating anything else. This means, for me, I do not intend to use JumperTX firmware at all once OpenTx has official release supporting the T16.
Hi TMac, I just want you to know I just updated internal module on Jumper t16 successfully. In the most heterosexual way, I love you. Thanks
Can't stop laughing Lawrence 😂 YESSSS! That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! Way to go buddy 💪👊👍
Now do one on OTX when it is released. Exact steps.
Hey Flyer-rcplane! I'll see what I can do!😉
Here you go-see newest posted video, enjoy!
May i know what is the difference between multi-stm-opentx-aetr-inv-v1.2.1.85.bin and multi-stm-opentx-aetr-noinv-v1.2.1.85.bin?
Mine is Jumper T16 Pro and which one i should flash for it? Thanks
Sure Nelson, no problem. Please see page 3, step 2 of checklist provided at link in video description. "The internal module requires firmware with telemetry inversion disabled, so the file must have " - noinv - " in teh name"
@@TMacFPV For example, for a Jumper JP4IN1, iRangeX IRX4, etc., and a radio running OpenTX or JumperTX you probably want the file named multi-stm-opentx-inv-[version].bin.
But why you download and flash with noinv.bin?
@@nldronesolution Per Brian Kai... external is inv, internal is noinv.
@@TMacFPV Noted, Thanks
Where can get the stock internal module firmware if need to roll back?
I do not know myself. This link provides much information on multiprotocol modules, protocols, firmware, etc. github.com/pascallanger/DIY-Multiprotocol-TX-Module
I cant get past "Erasing Flash Memory..."
