    You're a smart guy and that was an excellent presentation. You've given me enough confidence to remove my non working heater, take it apart and see if I can identify a problem :)

    Your cable assumptions are correct and the brown/white ist the "alarm" connection which will start the heater for 2h but not on last settings it will be always running on highest mode for 2h

    In temperature mode it takes ages to come down to your pre-set setting, it does do it eventually.

    I'd rather use the Chinese diesel heaters, I have two of the metal housing so called 8kw diesel air heaters with the blue lcd controllers and red feedback remotes and I love them plus the parts are easy to find and cheap. Keep up the good work and stay safe and God bless you and your family

      Thanks for stopping and saying hello, as functionality the Autoterm is a little bit better than the CDH but the price is close to Eberspacher (Espar) so for a little difference you get a much better heater. Nothing can compete with the price of Chinese ones. Stay safe a blessed holidays.

      My Chinese heater lasted a month of daily use in my boat, also had a fault in the aluminium casting (No quality control) that blew exhaust gas into the compartment airflow. Electronics is very sad, they used the wrong size electrolytics from some Chinese crap brand. and it was not protected by a conformal coating. Fan was to big or hole to small , had to sand that down. 5kW turned out to be 2kW. After a month I had to clean it and removed almost 100mL sooth because it runs much to rich, it was not tuned or tested in the factory. Could not get the soot out of the ignition chamber. I had no clue where to get parts because there is no spareparts list so have to buy them from a foto and gamble if it is the right size. Replaced it by an Autoterm and keep the crappy one as a spare for if I need to service the autoterm during winter.

    I have yet to install mine, but from what I understand you have to set where it reads the temperature for temperature mode. It’s probably not set to read at the controller.

    Thank you for the teardown, very interesting. Regarding temperature mode, I think it shuts down when the inlet air passing the Ecu is the temperature you set it at.

    Great Video and Work , have you got an Idea or a Procedere to remove eventually dust from the fan Blades? Vaccum or a brush or compressed air ? Best would be w/o removal or disassembly of the heaters? For Controllong the Heat i needed to select thermostat Mode and then adjust the temp and then start ( another round Logo will appear under the timestamp) i have external Sensor so it regulates also in the Heat and fan Mode. In the Heat and Power mode it runs according the Poti setting ( full or 3/4 or 1/2 or Minimum)

    The eberspacher is double the price for the complete set.
    In the ownsers' manual the diagrams shows an external temperature sensor, which you mention at 3:37. Without it i presume it can not detect temperature i presume.

      @@onyxnorbert Then you are lucky. Over here, Belgium, Netherlands, same shop, it's 650 for the complete Autoterm set and 1300 for the Eberspacher set, so if i paid attention in school that means double.

    Thanks for your excellent video. I have the Planar 2D, 8 years old, used a few days a year and never had a problem. But parts are now ridiculously priced, like $187 for a glow plug. You can buy a complete Chinese heater with a couple of $ more. I'm wondering if there is a cheap alternative glow plug which will will work in case I do have to get a new one someday. Planar are 9V, most other plugs are 12V. Does that matter?

    • @DIYHelper
      @DIYHelper  2 роки тому

      Probably because of the Russian ban, a glow plug should last without problems 10000 cycles. 9V plug cannot be replaced with 12v, Chinese heaters are Eberspaecher clones and Eberspaecher has 9v plugs not sure about the Chinese ones but I suspect it is the same

      There are two sensors. One in the controller and one in the heater unit. You need to select which sensor you want to use.

  • @matoko123
    @matoko123 10 місяців тому

    At 8:25 the red/white glow plug terminals are attached wrongly, they should be opposite. Maybe you put them back wrong when you stripped it the first time. Or maybe it doesn't matter?

    I run 3 CDH die cast housings, which have EU certification, I believe directly due to fire resistant housing. They are a little more cost, and a little harder to find. Is the PLANAR EU certified ?

      You were asking about the planars certification if read your own post. Planar is a well known brand that's why I replied it must have certification. Chds you have could have or not a real certification as you stated not only certified products come in the EU. I think a publicly available database from the certifiers is the only way to really be sure which ones are real or fake.

      Weird. I exchanged probably 20 e-mails with the pre-sales and tech support in the last 2 days and I'm not even a customer yet. They replied to all my questions adequately and quickly. I gotta say I've rarely seen such customer support anywhere, let alone for just a potential customer. As a comparison with Webasto - you don't even have direct access to customer support there. They rejected TWICE in a month to repair their stupid heater under warranty and last time it almost set my RV on fire.
