    Out standing, Happy New Year!! 2021 is going to be great!! For everyone. Let me say this , my farther was rated top 100 in the U.S. for Mercedes, as a Mechanic.. and he always teaching his kids to strive to be the best. I feel he would not only appreciate , his son watching and learning from your videos but he would be proud of the professionalism that I would be learning from the video. Thank you for that, Be safe, and again Happy New Year!!! Robert.

    Great vid very intricate job having the right tools makes life easy but a DIY at home wouldnt necessarily have all that is required its then understood why marine shops charge so much.....

      Thank you, yes, once you get into doing projects like this, it really isn't a DIYer.
      At the same time, it is possible to do all of the seals. It only gets tricky when it comes to tightening down the spanner nut :)

    Since you have the lower unit so far apart, would you mic the gears to check for wear?
    Why not replace the needle bearings with the unit apart?
    Why were the other bearings not packed with grease?
    Does everything only go back together one way as not to put anything on backwards?
    I really enjoy youe videos, I've learned so much! 😀👍🏻🚤🔧

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 років тому +1

      You could mic them, I'm not so sure that it is necessary though :) The needle bearings weren't worn out enough to justify replacing and you don't want to pack gear case bearings with grease. Instead, you want to put some clean gear lube on them and then install. Yup! Everything only fits in one way :) you don't want to change the preload on any of the bearings. Thank you very much, glad they have been a help to you! Thank you for all of the comments :)

    Very good video. I have a lot of experience with bravo stern drive the easiest way to remove a bravo prop shaft carrier is by just getting small aluminum scraps more or less about an inch tall and build them up around the prop shaft, of course this will all have to be taken down before the carrier is removed from the case. Then with old bearing races or similar build up to the threads of the prop shaft and use flat washers and a old prop nut with no nylok. Tighten down till movement making sure not to bottom out on the spine. This will only work with bravos that shift in the upper. I have never tried it with a bravo3 that’s not a performance drive just bravo ones and two’s

    Do you have a video on lressure testing a lower end? Also do they vacuum test them too? I know some seals are fine under pressure but when a small vacuum is applied they leak. And by small vacuum i mean as little as a good heat cycle may produce.

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 років тому

      No, we don't have a video on pressure testing the lower, which would be a good video. You can vacuum test them, but I haven't vacuumed a gear case for years now! They absolutely could leak under a vacuum from a heat cycle but generally gear cases today are pretty solid, and if they hold 12 PSI then you don't normally see any issues.

      Hi. Thanks for your reply. I hit a rock and I bent the prop while I was in KW. However, I noticed after the fix there is some vibration in reverse and not that obvious in forward as well. When I got home I observed the lower unit is got some type of metal sound when I put engine in gear. Not sure if this is something to be concerned about. After wall I hit the lower at WOT...

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 років тому

      Ouch! Yeah, that will do it :( Um, it's hard to say without looking at it. If you had it repaired by someone reputable and they tested it, you should be good, but at the same time, like you said, when you hit a rock at WOT sometimes you can do your best to fix the lower, but it could just be so out of whack that it can't be. Do you have any kind of warranty or insurance?

    • @marlonm396
      @marlonm396 5 років тому +1

      GM... My standard warranty expired three years ago; however, I still have Y.E.S. warranty coverage till November of this year. I believe this warranty covers major parts, etc. Do you think I can use this warranty to get this looked at/corrected? That would be awesome!!

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 років тому

      @@marlonm396 oh, idk, that's pretty far into it. Sometimes Yamaha is nice and will cover some things, but they can be stlickers too. Normally, that's not really a manufacturer defect lol but it doesnt hurt to ask :) they will probably tell you no way, but that's not going to be a shocker. I think your engines to old for them to be nice about a ground strike :(

    Hello BAB!
    Great video! I have successfully gotten the carrier (has 4 of the supports like yours) out of my lower unit but I can’t seem to remove the gear from the carrier like you show in the video. You simply turned it until it comes apart but mine just spins and won’t separate. Is there some kind of keyway that has to be lined up to be pulled apart? I will note there is some space between the gear and the face of the carrier along with a large washer/spacer in between that is loose.
    Any help appreciated as I am now stuck! Thanks! 👍🏼
